I would like to propose that we add a section titled "Trading Post" This would be to trade only (Or sell whatever you think is best) and would only be for MLP merch. I would prefer for there to not be any "shops" per say. So you can post what you have to trade or what you are looking for. I hope you guys think about this and if you have any questions just ask! Is this in the right place? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
Considering that we have members all over the world, and no real way of making sure that people get their trades, this doesn't really seem feasible.
Yea. Trading of products of any kind should be discussed 1 on 1 in private messages, leaving only you responsible should you lose your money or items to an untrustworthy trade partner. Having a thread or section just for it would allow the blame to be put on the everypony site and would allow the site to be sued. And none of us want that.
I knew someone would say that. How are people going to know what you have for trade though? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
PMs is pretty much the way to go. This isn't really the place to publicly buy and sell things...that's what places like ebay are for. Edit: Or if you're just looking to trade, I'm pretty sure you could make a blog about it.
I question even how much people would post on such a section. I think that a blog post, or a post in the merchandise section would be much more efficient, and then the trade can be through Ebay, etc. While a new section implementation is highly unlikely, at least an idea of trading among users is an interesting idea.
The reason I posted this was because I believe we are not allowed to make such threads. I would also rather not PM everypony who I think would be interested. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
I can see issues with this #paranoid There's a reason why we don't allow a lot of selling/advertising of products here in the first place, aside from the decent kickstarter or reputable merch store owner. The reason [mostly] is scams. Yes it's your problem when it happens, but meh. If it's merch to merch trade, no money involved or whatever, the current merch section is fine for that. Or blog. Just my 2c. I'm no legal expert, but just wanted to comment on this anyway. To my knowledge, a site can't really be liable to lawsuit in that fashion, the same way site owners aren't liable for any illegal stuff that gets posted by users (provided it's timely removed). There are US laws and safeguards that give such immunities. This site in general like other general fansites however, can toe the line with copyright troubles meaning that we shouldn't look for that sort of "attention" anyways, even if it's to a lesser extent.
So trading IS allowed? Well we could also have a reputation system. So other members can either give or take away your rep (once per person max is five points) It works well on other forums. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk - now Free
It's not directly stated in the rules, but from my understanding there's nothing wrong with trading merch to merch. And as for rep, we had that a long time ago, it was a horrible thing. So that won't be happening.
An interesting idea, but too subject to failure and bad press. Stick it to PM's, I'd say. It would be nice to get some official acknowledgement from Tyro The Fox or Eight Star as to their thoughts on the matter.
I'm in agreement with @Nerdus Pegasus, the Merch section seems appropriate enough, talk of adding a dedicated sub-forum should only arise if such threads start to drown out the regular discussion that goes on in there, and an actual need for it presents itself. Go right ahead, the rule regarding advertising is literally there as a rule against spam advertising from other sites, you and everyone else have always been free to hock off your stuff to other members, cash or trade. You guys aren't a business, charity or commercial website, as the rule states, no spam though of course. and If for some reason that isn't the case, then I would suggest the rule be worded differently, because at the moment that's what it says, as I intended it when I put it there. details from any forum moderator is sufficient, as anything that they say is on behalf of the team, or at least should be. We don't need to hear it from the top ourselves to understand it was their decision, to expect otherwise I feel is quite calumnious (I just really wanted to use that word today)
The administrators are the leaders of the team. It's only logical that they be the ones to speak on behalf of the staff. This doesn't mean that staff members can't get their own viewpoint on things too; just because you're staff doesn't mean you have to limit your own ability to have an opinion so long as it doesn't turn into an argument.
No, I agree with Berry. You don't have to have us comment on absolutely everything immediately and you're likely to get a good idea of what's likely to be said by us anyway from other team members too. Even former staff members are a pretty good barometer for what's likely to be said. This though, seeing as I'm here? Umm...Nah. It's a nice idea but we'd have a disclaimer about three miles long and wouldn't be able to secure any transactions, at all. We haven't the ponies or the expertise to set up such a network. But! What people seem to keep overlooking is that our advertising rules do make exceptions for anyone that asks for our permission before they put up an ad. If your looking to trade stuff, give us a PM and we'll make the exception. However, that arrangement will be sorted privately.
Well, you're the boss. I just personally prefer that an admin give the 'official' opinion. It's not necessarily something that needs to happen 100% of the time, but it's nice to get confirmation.
