Been knitting pony hats lately. Finished Rainbow Dash and have been wearing that for the past month and finished some armwarmers to wear while I'm at the library doing research. It's interesting to see what sort of people get it. I get alot of kids but mostly guys when I'm at the store yelling 'Rainbow Dash!'. I enjoyed making the hat so much, I made a DJ Pon3 hat. I'm halfway finished knitting Spitfire and I bought the yarn to make Twilight Sparkle yesterday. I'm really excited. My Mom (she's cool with the whole brony thing) and best friend are encouraging me to knit them all. I think I'm up for the challenge. I'm going to knit Princess Luna next month. ~Anti~ ________________ Update: Posted the hat for sale at my store http://www.bonanza.com/listings/DJ-Pon3-Vinyl-Scratch-Hat/107658965 I'm currently working on Spitfire and Big Macintosh. Will start Twilight Sparkle this weekend.
VERY talented work! you should definitely try selling them, these types of hats are really popular at the moment!
Thanks for your comment and interest. I'd totally be up to making Apple Jack. - - Auto Merge - - LOL Thank you. I'm putting it up for sale in my store. Going to add others as I finish them. http://www.bonanza.com/booths/Antidaeophobia?s=2
She's going to be part of my next collection. I put up a gallery under my name on here of all the hats I've made so far. I've been selling them faster than I can make them. They're a lot of fun to make. I'm going to move into arm warmers and socks that are pony related soon, I've got a vendor fair coming up, so I probably won't get to that till late fall.
Wow! That's a super-spiffy DJ PON-3 hat ya made there I've been wanting to make a hat like this for a while now, I just started knitting hats actually. I started with making scarves, I'm total pro at that now (the proof is the 12-ft long Doctor Who scarf I'm currently wearing, it took me about a month and a half to knit it x3). So now I'm looking into hats, currently making them in the "flat hat" style, making the large, flat swatch and then sewing it up into a hat shape. So far that's the easiest way I've found to make them. Far easier than knitting in the round. I'm currently making the infamous "Firefly" hat worn by the character Jayne, and I'd definitely love to make a couple pony hats as well Would you happen to have any resources that can show me how to make this particular style of hat?
I find knitting in the round to be easier. You can get knitting in the round cabled needles. My Mother isn't as advanced as I am (I'm advanced, she's intermediate) with knitting so she doesn't like DPN but she likes the cabled round ones. Knitting in the round gives a much smoother, cleaner look as you will have to stitch the hat close which causes lumps. When I started knitting years ago, I tried to do everything on single needles, now I rarely do single and most of my work is double point. You could use any stocking hat pattern and cast on the stitches indicated, only don't connect it in the round. Finish your hat, then you'll pick up stitches when you're finished, under the rim of the hat and knit your ear flaps. I don't give out my pattern for ear flap hats as I'm in business for myself and need the money for my service dog, but this pattern should help (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jayne-hat-5).
Thanks for taking the time to type all that I guess I'll have to figure out knitting in the round sometime soon, and I know it's not hard to find instructions for that. Soon l3 And in case you're curious, I finished the Jayne Cobb hat and it's been very well-received. Didn't really follow a pattern, just sorta winged it (wung it?) and it wound up working ^-^ And of course, I can see why you wouldn't want to give out your "secret formula" as it were, so no problem there. Thanks for the pointers l-)
That's awesome! I love patterns that you have to wing. They use to terrify the hell out of me, but now that I know what I'm doing I enjoy them more. I think I learned to knit just so I could make odd and fandom based projects. I don't think I've made anything normal yet, except maybe the socks I made for my grandmother. I'd highly recommend cable needles for a beginner, you'll like them.
These look awesome Antidaeophobia! I will most certainly be buying some when I get my paypal account all moneyed up! :3 I used to do knitting when I was younger! Croquet was my Specialty. (( I did spell it right, I was referring to the little Square knitting style, not the sport *flails* )) And you have made me want to take it up again! PS: Where'd you ponies get those little... cards? In your Siggys? xD
Thank for the replies all, I'm finishing up Daring Do, Rainbow Dash and Shadow Bolt, right now. I'm also moving into making knitted plushies. Will post pictures. My ebay account has all my information on what I've got available as ebay/usr/Antidaeophobia. I'm making new patterns for pony hats right now. Check out my gallery on here for pics of my past hats. Sorry for the late reply, my computer crashed. Anyway, I crochet as well, although I'm a not very good at it, my knitting is WAY better than my crocheting. I'm starting commissions for this winter. Send me a message whenever you're interested and I can give a free estimate on cost. I try and keep things as reasonable in price as possible as I know most Bronies, like myself, are very poor. I'm seriously making the pattern for Luna right now. Luna shouldn't be too expensive. The main issue has been trying to find the perfect yarn for her hair. I'm planning on making the princesses next and then villians. Discord's design has been realivly coperative, however, Chrysalis is giving me one hell of a hard time. Also starting making knitted plushies, I should have Dr.Whooves up next week. Sombra shouldn't be that hard to make, nor to expensive depending on details wanted, like shadow eyes. But feel free to message me on here or my ebay account (usr/Antidaeophobia) for a free estimate, it's no problem at all. I love getting messages from people about my hats.
Dude you're amazing!! I must have one of these xD I might actually check things out later on when I'm not so busty ^^ You are very talented. I love the Vinyl Scratch hat. Now all it needs is Tavi hat to match.
