Lu is now a mod on EPR. *Claps*

I was considered, yet Foxy said I may abuse the power. Trust me, I wouldn't. Seriously. I'm... it's made me feel a little down. Hugs?

    Congratulations Luprony.

Keep the EPR clean, and I mean "clean".

Shame I have to keep my name as 'Lupra'. I want Lupr, or Luprony at least. Still, can't complain! And Test, don't feel down. You're respected around here as it is, and you do a brilliant job at alerting the mods when something's up. A mod is just a status, you play a very important role as it is, just unofficially. Chin up lad.

I suppose, Lu, but like everypony else in this world, I'd like just a little more respect. I'm asking a bit much, aren't I?

Respect is earned through actions and demeanor, not titles. There are several users around here no play no part in the running of the site, yet are respected by users and staff alike. At the same time, being a member of staff doesn't give you instant respect. Remember that Test, because by useful, friendly and consistent, respect will pour in.

It's no problem Test. As weird as it sounds, those who seek resepect often don't get it. You should never do things with the sole intention of hoping people will like you for it, but rather be genuine in what you do, actually mean it. Forget about the rewards. Besides, you're fairly well respected around here as it is. You just need to remember that you're still young, and you've got a lot of learning ahead of you, and not just about linguistics and programming. I'm talking about morals, responsibility, and most importantly, yourself.

Aye. I'd like to think that I'm learning. Slowly, but I'm learning.

Hmm, one problem with this thread - wanting to comment on something from four pages ago. Completely breaks up the flow of conversation. So . . .

Testy, I like your new avatar - that kind of reminds me of Spike in the corner. Hmm, Spike as a linguist, an interesting thought. Maybe some future job for him. Although, I still read your posts in Saruman's voice.

Thanny - I like your avatar, too. It matches your name perfectly.

I work in a casino. Bleah. I feel like I'm in a cigarette factory all the time.

    Current topic:

It seems to me there are different kinds of respect. One, probably the one we always think of when we think of respect, is respect for what we do; for what our actions show others. That's earned respect.

But there's another kind of respect - respect for living beings. This is the respect I show all people, animals, and even insects and plants. It's a little hard to explain, but for me, it's sort of like giving a person a chance. I don't know if he's deserving of my respect or not, but I'll give him the chance to prove it or not.

. . . Well, that's simplifying it a good deal, but that's the general idea.

    Spike? Linguist? Really?

    Hm... aspirations...

Just recently, I was thinking of becoming a lecturer for English at a Russian, German or Finnish university.

Yes, it just occurred to me as I was looking at your avatar. Spike, always writing letters, gets interested in other languages, and in particular, his native dragon language. In the process, he discovers a love of languages (but not spelling), and soon speaks 42 different languages fluently.

I heard Finnish is very hard to learn - and this was from my Russian teacher.

Finnish sounds nice. But aye, from what I've read about it so far, it does seem madly difficult.

Isn't it some sort of "left over" language? All the other languages of Europe are, what is it - Indo-European? And Finnish is sort of this left over from whoever lived there before?

    Something like that . . .

Uralic. It's the same with Hungarian and Estonian. And, if I'm not mistaken, proto-Uralic was started in the Ural mountains in Siberia.

Uralic. I'm going to use that word randomly today. "Yes, he was caught cheating, but he's proto-Uralic."

    . . . I'll probably pronounce it wrong, tho.

Thank you. I'll continue to use it improperly at work today, but I'll be saying it correctly at least. It'll sound most impressive. People might actually think I know what I'm talking about.
