All righty guys, here we go. Trying another forum RP! The last few I did went fairly well, but those were a long time ago, so who knows, I might have lost my touch. :derpe: Also, trying out mentions, I have never used them before! Maybe I'll be able to do it this way: @Eight Star, @Quill Inkwell, @Feather Fire? Edit: Yay it works! GreyMagus, Carbon_Luna, _Chat_, Caberea

Well, anyways, to introduce the new RPing system! It is similar to my old one, for those of you who played using that before, but with a few differences that help make your character a little more unique.

The Basics

First of all, we're rolling a 10-sided die to check actions. Why 10? Because it's nice and even. It's also mainstream for role playing games. The die is rolled, and then compared to the stat of your character that we are testing. Say, for example, your strength is 5 and we are testing your strength. If you roll 5 or less, you succeed. Rolling a 1 is an instant success, because no stat may be lower than 1. If you roll above 5, you most likely fail. 10 is an instant failure, because no stat may be greater than 9. Now, if you rolled a 6, the results of the failure might not be as disastrous as if you rolled a 10, but you'll still technically fail. Got it so far? All right, let's move into the different stats and what they represent!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You get 20 points to spend here. No stat in this section may be above 15.

Health
Obviously, your character's physical well-being. If this drops to 0 or less, you will probably die.

Luck
This is your character's luck. There are two uses for luck: One is for luck checks, where no other stat would make sense to check. For example, to test whether or not an enemy is in a room, or how many enemies, or whether the enemies decide to move towards you or away from you while searching for you. The OTHER use for luck is as an expendable resource; if you fail on a roll that you really wanted to pass, you may spend one luck to subtract one from your roll (low rolls are good) as many times as you want. However, this lowers your luck value for luck rolls. And eventually, you'll...*shades* run out of luck. Yeah.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You get 20 points to spend here. No stat in this section may be above 15.

Sanity
Your character's mental well-being. If this drops to 0 or less, your character goes insane and you lose control of your character to the GM until your character dies or becomes sane again.

Mood
This is your character's general mood. This might need a bit of tweaking, but for now: A high value means they are optimistic and cheery, and a low value means they are cynical and depressing. This does not represent your character's intelligence! Remember, a character can be intelligent and cheery, OR dull-witted and cranky. Cheery does not mean stupid! Now, this stat, like Luck, can change based on events, and the most important thing to remember about this stat is that it can affect other players' characters as well as yours! A pony always looking on the downside of things may negatively affect their group's attitude as well, and when everyone's morale is low, it's not a good thing. You may even get shunned from the group for being a sourpuss!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You get 40 points to spend here. No stat in this section may be above 9, and no stat may be below 1.

Strength
This is your character's strength. Duh. It represents how good they are at lifting, pushing, and hitting things. When you want to push a boulder, strength will be tested, for example. Damage dealt when attacking something physically is normally equal to strength / 2, rounded up. An example of a character with high strength is Snowflake the body builder pegasus (I don't know if that's his name, but you all should know him). A character with low strength would be somepony like Fluttershy.

Resilience
This stat represents how well your character can take hits and damage, and more importantly BLOCK hits and damage. An example of a character with low resilience would be, again, Fluttershy, who is very frail. A character with high resilience would be Applejack or Big Macintosh.

Speed
This is how fast you can move, both your running/flying speed and the speed with which you perform tasks; however, speed does not mean coordination! You can do tasks quickly and sloppily, to clear the sky in ten seconds flat you would need speed AND coordination. This also represents your Hmm, I wonder who would be an example of high Speed? Hmm. I just can't THINK of anypony.
::S:

Coordination
This stat represents coordination, not quickness. This would be tested if you tried to catch something, or throw something, or do a complex maneuver, or other things like that. If you are Derpy Hooves, this stat is most likely 1. Daring Do or Rainbow Dash would have a high Coordination stat.

Awareness
This stat represents attention paid to surroundings. If your character has an eye or ear for details others often miss, they have high awareness. If your character is often lost in their own little world, or had a disability like blindness or deafness, they likely have a low awareness.

Willpower
This stat is a character's mental strength. This consists of resisting mental effects and having your mind messed with, resisting nonphysical types of magic (for example, Fire magic is physical magic, but Chrysalis' spell on Shining Armor was not) and it represents courage. Now, whether your character chooses to face a danger or not is up to them, IF they have enough willpower. If not, they may simply be terrified and cower, or run, or freeze up.

Magic/Lore
This stat represents how magically inclined you are. For unicorns and alicorns, obviously, this is raw power for spellcasting. If your magic is 7 or higher, a characer can cast two spells at the same time, but you risk losing (more) sanity if you fail. This is also the character's knowledge of and/or familiarity with magic. As an example, with high Lore, you might be able to recognize whether an earthquake is caused by magic or if it's just a regular earthquake. You might be able to figure out exactly what a ritual in progress is going to do, and figure out how to stop it, if you need to.

Creativity
This stat is something that might need a bit of tweaking. For now, however, this is how it will work: The first thing this stat represents is your character's thinking skills. If you (the player) don't know what to do, you can roll creativity and get a hint, because your character takes some time to think about whatever it is you need help with. However, depending on what you roll, the hint could be accurate, or slightly misleading, or even blatantly false. So be careful with this! The second way this skill affects a character is, skills! For every two creativity points your character has, your character gets one skill related to their cutie mark. Of course, I'll need to approve each skill, and I'll give an example character sheet to demonstrate what a skill might look like. I'll try to explain here. A skill is a way of testing a stat where it might not normally work that way. So, for example, +2 to all magic spells is NOT a skill. Being able to cast Teleporting spells? That is a skill. For a unicorn, the only way to cast spells besides basic Levitation and Light spells is: skills! Examples of nonmagic skills (from the show) would be performing a Sonic Rainboom, or calming/giving orders to/talking to animals, or Pinkie Sense. Remember, these skills have limitations! They must be related in some way to the cutie mark of the character! I will be very flexible here, but if you have a skill like "Fireball" when your cutie mark is in gardening, I'm gonna have to say no.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your character must be one of these races. If you want to use another race, ask me.

Earth Pony
Earth Ponies get 4 extra points to spend in either the first (Health and Luck) or second (Sanity and Mood) sections of stats.
They also get a cutie mark bonus.

Pegasus
Pegasi can fly. Duh~
They also get a cutie mark bonus.

Unicorn
Unicorns use magic!
They also get a cutie mark bonus.

Alicorn
Alicorns fly and use magic.
They still have cutie marks, but receive no special bonus from it. It simply is part of their backstory, and a guideline for their skills and stats.

Example Character Sheet

Name: Legion
Gender: Male
Race: Unicorn

Cutie Mark: The one it shows under my avatar of course! And he's a Time Mage, his cutie mark representing that, so we'll say +1 time spell skill.

Health: 6
Luck: 8

Sanity:
14
Mood: 12

Strength: 2
Resilience: 3
Speed: 4
Coordination: 5
Awareness: 4
Willpower: 8
Magic: 9
Creativity: 5

Skills (5 creativity / 2 = 2, +1 time spell)

Strong Mind
When Legion loses Sanity, the amount lost is reduced by 1, to a minimum of 1.

Accelerate (Spell)

Legion casts a spell that accelerates time around a character or object. He tests Magic. If he passes, then the target is sped up. If the target is a character, that character now has +4 speed to a maximum of 9 until Legion stops casting this spell.

Past Sight (Spell)
Legion looks into the past of the area he is in. The player controlling Legion must specify a time; not an exact time, but a relative time. Other characters cannot see what Legion sees, and Legion cannot hear or feel anything; only see. (Remember, this spell will make the past VISIBLE to him, but he still must roll awareness to see things!)

I totally didn't rip some skills from Eight Star. Hee hee. But they can be almost anything that you want them to be; these are examples. If you don't want to come up with a technical way to apply your skill, you can just say what you want the skill to do and I'll 'translate' it into the game mechanics. So no worries for those of you who are a little overwhelmed by all this!

Now, give me yo opinions on this whole thing! Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!!

Also, I will say right now, I am picky about who I roleplay with, so I may not accept your character. Don't take this the wrong way, it just means that I feel that your style of role playing may be too loose for this role play, or that you might not have a complete understanding of the rules. It is probably NOT because I hate you.

AH, and. The story! I will be going slightly unorthodox and will not give it to you until the RP starts. However, I can give you this much as a guideline for characters: It should be very close to Canon. So, no outlandish things like futuristic technology or anything.

I'm confused why luck and mood are together? I would think someone who is really lucky would have a very good mood, wouldn't they? Meaning someone with max luck (19) is required to have a mood of 1... Think about it. If EVERYTHING always goes your way, wouldn't you tend to be pretty dang happy? Just thought I'd mention it.

Follow-up. Whose rolling the dice? Is it always the GM or is everyone responsible for their own dice?

Final follow-up. Sanity and health seem like such important stats, that having to balance 20 points between them leaves little choice. 10-10 is good. 15-5 is dangerous because one stat is ridiculously close to danger. I can see 7-13 as the farthest from perfect balance you can get without being really really risky. Maybe that's the intent. I'm not entirely sure, but I thought I'd mention it.

Well, that makes sense, yes, but having lower sanity because you're healthier doesn't make much sense either. :derpe:

It's just to keep the characters balanced, not really to mimic any real-life connection between them. But you are right, that is very unrealistic, I'll try to come up with something better.

It'll be the GM always, if you don't trust the GM then just don't play. I mean, I'm not out to kill you or make things hard for you, I'm just here to maintain order and tell the story. There'd be no reason for me to cheat.

Well, it's your choice. You can make them 10-10 if you see that as the best choice, or if you think another combination of them is better, you can go ahead and do that. You can design your character however ya want, within the rules. ^^

- - Auto Merge - -

Can you look it over and just give me your thoughts on the system? You'll probably catch a few faults in it that I missed.
Thankee :D

QUESSION!

Luck can be over 9, but is used for luck checks... does that mean that while it's over 9, Luck rolls automatically succeed?

I'll do it. During the winter my dad and brothers and I get together and play an rp called Dungeons and Dragons. pretty much the same thing as this, with the dice and character sheets.

Oh, sorry, for luck I'll probably use a D20 actually. Since Luck can start from 5-15.

I'm not quite sure what your question is, did you read all of the rules? There aren't really attack/defense stats...at least they're not called that.

Ok. I've been dying to try an rp with stats so I can mod my first OC.
I hope I'm not being a fool with my character.

Name: Archrival
Gender: Female
Race: Unicorn

Cutie Mark: A purple swirl pattern. She plays around with shadow magic and has gotten to the point where she can control weak creatures from Tartarus (Gives a "demon" summoning spell, and prevents use of any "white magic")

Health
: 10
Luck: 10

Sanity: 7
Mood: 13

Strength: 1

Resilience: 1

Speed:
3
Coordination:
4
Awareness:
6
Willpower: 7

Magic:
9
Creativity:
9

Skills (9 creativity / 2 = 4, +summoning spell)

Low level minion (summoning spell)
Uses dark magic to summon a random "demon" from Tartarus under the control of the caster. It will most likely be an imp, but it can be slightly more powerful beings if the caster gets lucky. (luck test. fail test-imp, pass test-guard demon)(imps require no willpower to control, guard demons test willpower every 2 actions)

Shadowball (spell)

Collapses dark magic into a manipulable ball. The ball can then be formed into a usable shape (no test), or tossed at an enemy for damage (test coordination).

Fel Armor (spell)
Dark magic forms a permanent armor around the caster lessening all damage taken by 1. The spell is removed if it would prevent all damage of a non-basic attack. Causes the caster to emanate a green light.

Minor Invisibility (spell)
Temporarily makes the target invisible. The caster cannot be the target.

Cthun's Tongue (linguistic skill)
Attempts to trick an enemy (or ally. it could happen.) using an ancient dead language (test target lore). It may backfire and confuse the user also (test lore).

So... How was that?

Edit- modified with new info regarding spells, and changed the linguistic skill. Will change again if necessary.

Magic & Lore: 8
Creativity: 8

Skills (8 creativity / 2 = 4)
Enchant: By rolling her Lore and Creativity, Mystic Heart can use certain reagents to empower an object with a permanent effect. Easy effects include boosts to stats, while much more difficult boosts can involve regeneration, reflection, or mystical enhancements.

Mystical Shield: With her magic, Mystic Heart creates a shield that blocks like a regular shield, allowing her to use her Willpower to block Physical attacks.
Enchanted Blast: Directly enchants an enemy with a negative curse, causing an ice-like crystalline barrier to grow over their body, dealing damage and causing them to slow, or get stuck in place.
On-Spot Enchantment: Strikes a target, giving them a -1 boost to a certain stat's rolls for about her Magic in Minutes.
Empowerment: Empowers a magical object, allowing it to be used for its positive effects, which can be boosted by Mystic Heart's own powers over enchanted items. Magical Stones are much easier to attune with this skill.

(Also, on your sheet, do you realize you swapped Sanity and Luck?)

When he first posted it, sanity and luck were swapped from what they currently are. you are using the original set up.
