Some women change their minds, realize the amount of responsibility it takes to raise a child, or maybe it was an accident but the father wants it to be a 'Happy Accident' and won't let the wife get an abortion simply because 'he's the father'. It's the woman's body, it's her right to decide what happens to it, and inside it.
I have no idea why I was quoted due to the fact I don't understand what you are trying to tell me individually. On abortion I actually agree with Ridley. The fact that it "takes two to tango" and raising a child should be both the parents job I feel like both should be able to decide on if the child is born or not. Also there is a way to prevent unwanted pregnancies, it's called contraception. Now the fact that people both choose to become parents and then not want the child is beyond my comprehension. When the idea is to non-consenting pregnancy that is when I believe the aggressor has no say. What happened if the male was forced into parenthood via an act of sexual aggression from a female. What happens then? Do we let the female decide that the victim is now forced to pay for that womens crime?
Feminism is needed since most people still follow the archaic belief that women are inferior because.... because... I have no idea. So yes. Abortion is needed. World is massively overpopulated anyway.
I quoted you because I agreed with you, nothing more. I probably should have done it in a separate post. It is just my personal belief that it's the woman's body. I can understand the point of what you're saying, but it's just my belief, nothing more.
If the woman doesn't want to take care of the child, and the father does, why does she have the right to kill his child simply because SHE doesn't want to be bothered with it? Your logic is so fundamentally flawed that I don't even know where to begin...
So you'd rather the child live his/her life either as an orphan or with a non-caring, possibly abusive parent, just because one guy said 'Nope' to having an abortion? That's part of the problem. People make stupid decisions and as a result make the next generation suffer for it. My issue isn't with the abortion itself, it's the fact that if a woman is prevented said abortion when she wanted it, she has to live with a child she doesn't want, which can lead to a variety of problems, both with herself and the child. I'd rather neither of them have to go through that. How is that logic 'Fundamentally flawed'?
Alright, here are my views on abortion. I believe that abortion is wrong, UNLESS it isa case of rape, incest, or if the woman's life is at risk. It takes two people to have consensual sex. It takes an egg and a sperm for a child to be conceived. Therefore, it should take two people to decide the fate of the unborn child. Abortion is NOT birth control. People need to take responsibility for their actions, and certainly includes their decision to have sex. If a man doesn't want a kid, he can wear a condom, get a vasectomy, or (novel idea) KEEP IT IN HIS DAMN pants. The same is true for women. They have their choice of dozens of birth control products on the market. They also have the choice to keep their legs closed. Killing an unborn child simply because pregnancy is a little inconvenient is, quite frankly, disgusting.
That is a respectable viewpoint, I won't deny that. So I'll consider this done, since I don't have a rebuttal.
Anyways... Now that we've managed to totally derail this thread, let's try to get it back on track. So, new topic. From what I've been reading, many of the people who are against feminism are against it because of the militant extremists within the movement. This leads me to wonder, how do the more moderate feminists feel about the "Feminazis?"
I feel Militant Feminists perpetuate the hate they wish to be rid of by throwing it back at the other group with extreme prejudice. Being a moderate Feminist (As much as I can be a feminist being male anatomically) I feel although women's rights are a good thing. But just how I don't condone Anti-Fascist killings of White non-Racists I don't defend idea of Male servitude or Male Triviality.
Regardless of gender, your rights end where someone else's begin. No one should infringe upon the rights of another and should be granted no extra privileges. *comes back from Utopia* In reality this doesn't happen, unfortunately... So we play the hands we are dealt. Title IX and other women's rights laws are good things. It's unfortunate that they are necessary to "force" equality these days. Here's some good news for women in the workplace though - From Forbes 2011 (Deslidified for your viewing pleasure!) and More recently from Australia. So there's some feel good stuff for you.
I suppose an abortion thread is in store now, but since work stole me away, please don't object to me justifying myself in old posts. That one was more directed at Ridley. Actually, surprisingly, it's not. Abortion pills involve putting drugs into your body thst cause your feminine parts to weaken and break down, causing them to not be able to supply vital nutrients to the zygote. This leaves behind scar tissue that can cause issues later in life. Surgical abortion is just all over bad, from the sedatives to the induction to the actual procedure. A woman has to be very desperate to terminate to undergo that. You have a point. Thanks for clarifying. Edit: Side note, I understand the want for men to have a right to choose. Compelling arguments, but quite frankly, while the "baby" is an embryo it has a nervous system about as developed as a shrimp. Until three months, it's no bigger than your fingertip. At that point, the only human thing about it is the fact that it has 48 chromosomes. Would you rather hurt a fully developed fenale's life or terminate a clump of tissues and nerve endings that look vaguely human if at all? I'm sorry, it just really needed to be said. Sorry for being blunt. If a man at that point is so disregarding of the wants and needs of the woman, maybe he shouldn't be a dad.
Do to not wanting to talk about my own childhood in any great length I will just say this. That last statement you made can be just a true if you flipped the genders. Men are victims of Co-Dependency, Abuse, and being told what they should do with there own body just as much as women. Take it from a guy who has been told all his life by his maternal parent that he was the worst mistake she made prior to letting me be born.
I don't want to get into this for like the 5 millionth time, but basically... Just don't tell people what to do with their lives. No one should do that.
I'm a proud feminist. I think there's alot of misinformation on most peoples parts on what feminism is about. I know many people that assume feminism is man hating, or they think we're all 'feminazi's' and obsess over things like 'it's chairperson not chairman!' but frankly, only a small portion are like that and the only reason they get any attention is because they're loud, and they even scare other feminist. I don't even really consider the man hating feminist as feminist at all because they don't represent the movement and what we're all about. I also feel that lots of men misunderstand that feminism isn't just for women but for all genders, we're not out to screw over men and bring them down. I know lots of men that are feminist and they understand what feminism is all about because they took the time to read the information with an open mind. I say I'm a feminist and I get a great deal of hate just by merely using that title, but sanitizing it and saying 'I'm not a feminist I'm a humanist' isn't going to change what I represent. The fact is, I am a woman, and I have dealt with misogyny and inequality just because I'm a female. Feminism is an important part of my life and if someone is going to treat me poorly just because I'm a feminist, then they're obviously not the sort of person I want in my life. http://antidaeophobia.tumblr.com/post/52853061878/a-list-of-mens-rights-issues-that-feminism-is
This. Very much this. I feel exactly the same way about the whole issue. A lot of feminists, even the moderate ones, tend to think women are below men in terms of rights. And I disagree because I think it's not as black and white as that. To me, in some aspects, women are oppressed, and in others, men. The feminist movement says a lot of things I agree with, but I feel that you can't be for the rights of only one and claim to believe in equality. I'm not a feminist because I believe creating equality is more complicated than raising women "up to men's level."
