Who doesn't? I was honored when my sister asked me to name her guitar. I named my laptops. You name things you want to feel connected to. Things you would want to protect. That's why some people have so much trouble naming characters in video games (especially mmos) As far as the thread's topic goes, I used to play bass, and it was beautiful, but I didn't have the money to keep it >.>
False. Unless you were to consider the declaration of a noun that noun's name. That is to say: False, unless you consider the word 'apple' to be a name for the object that was named 'apple'. Random preamble aside, I do not name objects, given that the above definition of naming is not the case. Often enough, I don't even use people's names. I like being disconnected from the world. EDIT: To summate all of the above, my only instrument is my own philosophy.
I had a drum kit like this but it was white instead of black. She was named Amelia (After the doctor who companion played by Karen Gillan)
Contrast Descarte's conclusion here - that the mind and body are two separate substances, albeit intermingled - with Aristotle's claim that the mind is the form of the body, a hylomorphic account.
Thank you for your excellent point, which bears absolutely no relevance to the present discussion. No actually, this has no relevance to the OP, no relevance to anything I said, and maybe a slight relevance to what was said by Das Hie. A very very vague one at that. Congratulations, you're now a philosopher.
Dreamer pretty much summed it up. I've always had a thing for nicknaming my possessions. Hell, I even nicknamed my truck Marceline!
Here's my Guitar- I've lovingly named her Guitar. Never learnt how to play her, She's been locked up for years, poor thing. I played a bit'a Piano when I was a kid, buuut... Not any more.
I play this... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V382Q5jrXwU/UKvXv7mkmFI/AAAAAAAAVfs/OZjQ_WAIl6k/s1600/Viola2.jpg NO, IT IS NOT A FREAKING VIOLIN IT IS A VIOLA. I WILL SMASH YOU TO BITS IF YOU INSULT SUCH A BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENT!
When I joined orchestra (the strings version of band in 6th grade) we were given the choice of violin/viola, cello, and standing bass. I chose bass because I was so smart (I hate standing) but we had been told that the viola would be if we wanted violin but were too big, because the viola was just a bigger violin. Of course it WAS 6th grade, but I've never given it second thought till now. How do the sounds vary between the two?
