With more recent Motherboards and CPUs, its a lot more straightforward and noob-friendly to OC just a little. I've played the overclocking game once or twice. I consider myself lucky to have gotten away with a couple of bluescreens. When I went back to normal settings everything worked fine, so for now I'm just carrying on with the assumption I didn't do any permanent damage to my system. I need to do my homework before I try again. lol I also had Fedora on one of my old laptops. It was nice but not being able to run exe's without help just bothered me too much. Build a toaster. It's just like a death ray but with a smaller power supply.
If you didn't go crazy overboard, then you'll be fine. If you overclock, be sure to start low, and steadily increase the power, with torture testing (IntelBurnTest of Intel CPUs (or prime95 but this one is better) and Furmark for Graphics cards) each incrementation, while watching the heat of the component you're OCing.
