I watched this review by Sad Panda on ThatGuywiththeGlasses.com About MLP http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/sadpanda/forget-about-it/32490-my-little-pony. This isn't really a real review If you look below the video there is a link to the first episode which basically shows you it supposed to be a uninformative review that make fun of the lack of research he does. Anyway what did catch my attention was the comments that were made by many haters and also bronies that had a lot of crap to say about the more obsessive members of the community.

I don't know what to think anymore.....

As a part of this obsessive part of the community I'm starting to submit to some of their points as harsh and mostly untrue they are. I would be interested to know what you think of these comments, from both sides maybe we could start a discussion

    1. I agree with you on this to a point, but there ARE ways in which the value of something can be objectively judged in comparison to things that are similar to it. While it's certainly true that you can like something even if it's not objectively good, or dislike something that's not objectively bad, that doesn't change the overall quality of something. As Nash said on twitter a while back "There is actual criteria involved in "good" and "bad." Being popular, making money, or you personally liking it not among them."

    2. For the most part, the fandom is perfectly fine with a smirk or a jab from time to time, the problem comes when that's not all we get from those who hate the show. I've seen conversations where people seriously accused Bronies of being pedophiles and sexual deviants just for watching the show. There's a point where it stops being simple jokes about the strangeness (we actually make plenty of those at our own expense) and starts being outright offensive.

    3. Again, I can agree that the show has gotten overhyped by parts of the fandom, but that's not the issue. The issue is, somebody said that adults shouldn't watch kids shows...on a site that was founded on a guy reviewing kids shows and movies. The strange logic is just a bit striking, isn't it?

    4. I've still rarely seen any fans resort to stuff like that. It's actually one of the admirable traits of the fandom in general that they usually don't resort to ad hominem attacks against people who don't like the show. Again, this is a bit of a generalization, and there are always some less-than-savory characters out there who give the fandom a bad name, but having immersed myself in the fandom somewhat, I've found it to be a generally positive experience, with most
bronies being perfectly nice people who just happen to like a show for girls."

    1. I'm still waiting for someone to critique the show without resorting to calling it "gay," "girly," "stupid," "annoying," etc. and actually telling me in specifics why it is so *objectively* bad. It's one thing if you don't like the characters, art style, music, etc., but it's another to deny that anyone else should like it. It usually comes down to how cynical the person is or how much of an "edge" a show has to have for them to enjoy it, instead of being just relaxed, simple fun with quite a bit of sweetness and cheese factor.

    2. People who loathe the series are just as aggressive about attacking those who like the show. And fans on the internet don't represent fans as a whole. If I insulted your favorite show for a stupid reason or no reason at all, you'd certainly try to correct me. There's a difference between being aggressive and defending what you like.

    3. Not only has pretty much the entire team worked on the best Cartoon Network and several Nickelodeon shows from the late 90s to the mid-2000s, from Dexter's Lab to Powerpuff Girls to Samurai Jack to Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, but Lauren Faust specifically said that the show is meant to be for all ages. There are a lot of hidden references and jokes that only older people woul get, even a couple of booze jokes and a drug reference.

    4. These are the same points I always see brought up, and I always say the same thing back. You can call it "being aggressive" all you want, I just want a real response rather than ad hominem attacks."

From the few episodes I've seen, this show hasn't done much to earn the hype it's garnered. The plotlines are mundane and pandering, the writing is condescendingly infantile and the conflicts (what little there is) isn't compelling enough for me to take a second glance at it.

But this show could just set itself on the same level as every other recent animated series (with recycled referential humor and flash animation), but the *squee!*ing fanbase, man. I am convinced that the majority of these people are just clinging onto the show to troll people with their ironic self-deprecation; that they mock the show and the legitimately pathetic core fanbase by adopting the "cutesy" tone of the series and the fan's obsessive behavior for the lulz.

The true core fanbase of the series is just beyond help, speaking in the show's cute tone, acting at least a dozen years too young and dramatically defending the goddamn show like you've just torn out their very soul. I want to find one of these poor, discarded manchildren and tear this show asunder before them, just to see if they'd break down and cry like that in person or if they'd have some goddamn self-respect.

Then there's the 3% of all fans who ACTUALLY belong to the show's intended demographic of preteen girls.

Its popularity is a glorified 4chan joke, and I can't tell you how sick to death I am of 4chan-brand "humor." This show is mediocre, and if it weren't for the sudden media coverage that these Brony weirdos have gotten recently, it would be acknowledged only in how routine it is. You might as well have stuck up for something like Time Squad.

Also, being autistic myself, kindly knock this bull*squee!* off. If it wasn't degrading and humiliating enough to be compared to *squee!*ing Chris Chan every time autistic people get news coverage, now we have the *squee!*ing Bronies on our side, doing us all sorts of favors. Have some goddamn self-respect and stop watching kid's shows.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to continue being named after a mediocre villain from a sub-par animated series based on an overhyped game series that I don't actually like."

Well the review that Sadpanda made was a little on the short side and had really no information at all behind it. I will defend anything I like(Green Lantern, My Jeep, NASCAR) it doesn't matter to me what it is.

dennett316- What he said didn't really seem out of place, seemed like a normal person trying to get his point out.

Lossthief-I like that he brought up that the only way people seem to attack the show is through calling it "girly""gay"and "cute". He is also right saying that the people of hate the show are just as aggressive at attacking it.

DrIvoRobotnik-Well he said he gave a few episodes a try, maybe it just didn't take with him. While I don't agree with his points, I'm not going to attack the guy for voicing his opinion. If this guy were to have intelligent points to argue, I would love to discuss the show with him.

It makes me a sad panda that people try to put objective criteria on somepony liking a show, which is an entirely subjective experience.

However aside from the fact that the neighsayer in question made about 5 different fallacies, I still face-palm. Because...

On second though, the last poster is just trolling. The last line gives it away.

Well played, t'was. Well played indeed.

    Ah, Ivo. Trolling as usual.
But yeah, the first two were accurate representations of the show and its fandom. So hey, I'm all for them voicing their opinion and what not.

Lol you've seen this Ivo guy before huh. I don't normally read comments on the site.

Anyway some comments I've seen in general from people are starting to make me wonder if my fandom for this is a bit over the top. I'm starting to question if my own reasons for obsessing over the show are rational. I hope it's not losing it's magic for me. I am brony for life but I might be sliding down from 9 on the obsessiveness scale.

People have different levels on which they love things. For my the top tier is MLP, Green lantern. I love both of those things. I never think that I've gone overboard, others may think I have, but I don't care what others think. Those comments just might be as into it as others. You should compare yourself to others.

Something major would have to happen in order for me to fall from a 10.

Green Lantern shoulda stayed a black man. Made the stereotype of black men being gangsters and drug dealers n' crap seem false.
I was hoping the new GL movie that came out a few months back would feature "Justice League" GL. But meh.

The Green lantern corp is a multi alien race organization. They are basically space police. Hal Jordan just happens to be the most popular and well know earth lantern. Besides John Stewart, there are 2 other earth lantern Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner. It is kind of a shame the other earth lanterns aren't shown any screen time, but that's why I got the comics. He might show up in the blackest night animated movie they're making.

Ah, well, I knew that stuff.

But yeah, I was a bit disappointed how they didn't give any of the other Earth Lanterns any screen time.
