I'd love to see a Pony JRPG, like Earthbound. Twilight is the offensive magic user , Fluttershy would be a jack of all trades , Rarity would be defensive magic, Pinkie would be a tank, Rarity would be healer, Applejack would be healer, and Dash would be speedster. No clue for story. :/
I'd love something like this too. And whaddyaknow, somebody is already making one. I think it's still in development, but the name of this amazing looking MMORPG is Legends of Equestria. You fight bosses, using not-too-violent methods, i.e. pies, horseshoes, apples, etc. I was thinking of a single-player being something like Skyrim, but you befriend other ponies and build up "friendship points" to take down bosses. It would ideally also have physics puzzles (think of Amnesia: The Dark Descent), and a good amount of free-roaming and doing what you do. (For me, when I of course become a pegasus, would be to fly aimlessly about Equestria)
First I'd like deep silver and wild game studios to develop it. I'd like ea to publish it. Now that that is sorted lets move onto story. The story would have to be grand, magical and of course filled with friendship. I'd like to have the game take place prior to twilight's arrival in ponyville. This is where you'd make your character. Yes, this game would need a creator. Imagine the pony maker from deviant art, but a largely upgraded version. Just imagine all the color possibilities, the accessories that could be added. The choices would be near endless. Anyway back to the story part of it, so you are like a back ground character for the first few seasons of the game. It is then revealed in the "fourth" season of the game that your character is the seven element of harmony /)^3^(\ The game would go on for a few "seasons" fighting of the big bad of day until the end of the game when you become an alicorn and seal the gate of un-good. Now I didn't forget gameplay features, okay so obviously the first thing that this game would need is a choice mechanic, almost everything in the game would affect the character relationships with you and what element you become. The game would be a combination of RTS style combat(late game), JRPG style turn based battles and free roam. In this game you can visit any town, city and building. All of them full rendered and waiting to be explored. Ponies from all around would ask assistance. From simple little things like mail delivery to massive army clashes. Of course this will also affect the relationship section of the game. You can recruit any pony to your team with the right quests completed. You could create the dream team of magic horses. Now here is the cool part, if you get really close to your favorite pony you can marry them, there are no limits. Any pony or character will marry your character, be them diamond dog, pony, dragon or what have you. Of course since you can marry them you can also have kids, the game will take into account your traits and your mate so all kinds of wacky things could happen. And lastly, every character would have the chance to become a alicorn. Want Cheerilee to be a alicorn, complete the right quests and BAM, she becomes an alicorn. Best game ever.
I was part of a small team working on a pony themed MOBA, unfortunately, the entire client side team bailed on the project. This was despite the fact that most of the server side code was ready to go. It would've probably been something that I'd've looked forward to playing, but the whole thing is dead at this point.
I agree, Pony Emblem would be amazing. There are enough characters in MLP to do it too. Wait what? But... you...said Rarity twice for two different roles...and...Fluttershy would be the healer, and Applejack the tank and Pinkie Jack of all Trades... Oh well, it's-- Oh my gosh Echo, you've hit the jackpot of ideas, let's go present this to Wild Games right now!! That is literally the best game ever.
The way I see it, if Nintendo could make a "violent but non-violent" series like Smash Bros. work, ponies could certainly be put in games featuring non-explicit combat. That said, I'd definitely be happy with seeing any of the following formats for an action/adventure MLP game: -Western RPG w/sandbox exploration a la Elder Scrolls or Ultima -JRPG a la Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy -Side-scrolling platformer a la Mega Man -3D platformer a la Spyro or Mario 64 (assuming the programmers are competent, as 3D platforming can quite easily go horribly, horribly wrong) Of course, I don't see any games like these being officially sanctioned by Hasbro, since, unlike the show's writers, they still seem to think that their franchise is to be marketed solely to young girls, so I honestly couldn't fathom them greenlighting any sort of action genre with that particular demographic in mind. Indie game developers, on the other hand...do your thing.
Your links broke bro! but I Bing'd up their new domain http://theovermare.com/ PipBucks and all 3 races as playable pony sounds like awesomeness! I love Fallout and I love MLP so if this bombs I will have to kill a bunch a people, but I'm sure it will be at least acceptable if not totally sweet kick ass. A must for this game needs to be Pinkie Pie throwing me a party welcoming me to Ponyville!
A lot of things would be interesting but a Zelda/Okami style puzzle adventure probably would fit pretty well and be a lot of fun. Each sort of ability that you use in dungeons or whatever can be gained by adding party members. Maybe there could be some optional ones that are trickier to get to join and there abilities are how you get special items or secret areas or something. I'd enjoy it. Also there could still be boss fights and they'd be somewhat puzzle battles similar to in zelda. Hn... this is out of no where but I was thinking about enimies and since are some are so much larger than the ponies it could be interesting if there were at least one or two shadow of the colossus style fights where you need to climb/ride the enemy and hold onto it during parts of the battle. I don't know that's a stretch, those are cool battles though. hehe. An RP would be cool too of course. I've thought of that before though the idea was a bit odd. Man talking about these things almost makes me want to offer to work on some kind of game small and simple with someone. I really don't have time though. Classes are crazy now and over Christmas/winter break I need to study for GREs and check out and apply to grad schools. Then after that I have a really intense course load followed by a large project with a professor, so... yeah.
Yeah, it'd be quite an undertaking, to be sure...my ordinary work schedule alone would give me only a couple of hours per day to work on such a game. I recently downloaded a trial version of RPG Maker VX Ace to test things out and see whether it's versatile/easy-to-use enough to build a game around the type of setting and story I want to tell. So far it seems pretty customizable, even if the interface is a tiny bit confusing. But I suppose the more I work with it, the more willing I'll be to plop down $60 to buy the full program, thereby committing myself to finding the time to work on the game.
I want something like the original Spyro video game. You pic your pony and you have to go on a quest using that pony. Imagine doing the Spryo style flying rounds as Rainbow Dash, or kicking Goblins as Apple Jack.
I was thinking more of an RPG than anything. Even a pixilated RPG app would be fun. You could design your own pony and go on quests... The only problem, well the problems, are development, and entertainment.
