I bet there's plenty of people who died today. What makes James Avery so special to you?

I must be stupid or something, because while everyone is singing high praise for The Time of the Doctor, I'm sitting here scratching my head, trying to figure out things that don't make much sense to me.

I saw a few inconsistencies as well.
Which ones are you referring to?

One of the main things are the Time Lords somehow granting the Doctor a whole new regeneration cycle, just like that. If that was such a simple thing, why would Time Lords have to worry about regeneration cycles in the first place? And I found it dubious that the Doctor was able to destroy the Dalek fleet with regeneration energy. I also felt it would have been better if he had become Capaldi on the clock tower and was using, say, the holographic projector to talk to Clara on the TARDIS right after, to ease her into being a new Doctor.

Another thing is the raiding parties we saw the Doctor fight off looked like child's play, as if the Sontarans, Daleks, Cybermen, etc. weren't even really trying to stop him. Was the church of the mainframe that spectacular at holding off all the armies of the universe somehow?

I did like how they explained the Silence that the Doctor had faced up until then had been a rogue element that took the prophecy wrong. I do wonder what happened to Madame Covarian though. She was killed, but then that reality never happened.

I also found it odd how many goodbyes the Doctor and Clara had. I don't really see the need for him to send her off twice, and personally feel the time spent doing it the second time around could have been better spent fleshing out some of the less explained parts.

At first, I felt Clara's message to the Time Lords to be a bit lacking in explanation, but after thinking about it, there wasn't a lot of information on their end, but I guess there was enough for them to get the message that it wasn't safe to come out. I really wonder, though, how these Time Lords are supposed to differ from the ones that wanted to end the universe in The End of Time. Why are they more peaceful?

Those must be season seven spoilers because I thought you were talking about the 50th anniversary special when you said The Time of the Doctor, which I did watch, despite not having seen season seven. :I

So yeah, none of that made any sense to me whatsoever, even though I've watched all of the previous six seasons of the current series.

At any rate I do also need to see the past regenerations...

50th anniversary special was The Day of the Doctor. The Christmas special was The Time of the Doctor. :derpe: Honest mistake.

Wiping out the Daleks with regeneration energy might be explainable.
When Ten regenerated into Eleven inside the Tardis, the energy caused the ship to crash. Considering that whatever the Tardis is made out of is much more durable than Dalekenium, it is feasible that the amount of energy required to severely damage a Tardis is enough to destroy a Dalek ship.

As for the new regeneration cycle, it's been done before.
In the twentieth anniversary storyline 'The Five Doctors,' the Master was offered a new regeneration cycle in exchange for rescuing the Doctor from the Death Zone.

The fact that Daleks suddenly developed the aim of Stormtroopers was slightly irksome, but I'll have to assume that it was for cinematic effect.
The Doctor did look rather badass leading the Silence into battle.

As for the rest of it, your guess is as good as mine.
    Unicorns, maybe?

I was always under the assumption that the damage to the TARDIS caused by the 10th's regeneration was caused by holding said regeneration in for so long while he said goodbye to everyone.

I suppose that's possible. It makes as much sense as anything else that happens on the show.

As for the latest regeneration, the Time Lords had to send the energy from another universe, through a crack in reality itself.
    Maybe they overdid it?

Good enough for me. It didn't look like it was that much energy when it was moving, but looks can be deceiving.
