As we all know, the internet is a place where people can share their interests and views with like-minded individuals. It also allows people from far away to meet up and hang out. This very website is an example of both. But there's a dark side to the internet. With FaceBook, Twitter, and to a lesser extent, internet forums, it's easier than ever to get someone's personal information and use it for malicious purposes. Going back to meeting up, the internet allows people such as murderers and pedophiles to meet up with potential victims.

What are your thoughts on the internet?

The internet is simultaneously the best and the worst thing humanity has ever created.

Pretty much, yeah. It's awesome and awful at the same time.

Justin Bieber was created by Canadians, not humans.

I would just like to say that Justin Bieber wouldn't have had a career if he hadn't been discovered... on YouTube.

I highly doubt that. He'd have been a one hit wonder back in the 80's. Sorta like Rick Astley. Except crappy and not nearly as talented.

Fair, though the internet was how his career began. Maybe it could have happened another way, but it didn't.

    Hehe, Rick Astley.

I think the internet is too frequently demonised and used as a scapegoat for various unrelated crimes and incidents. The same as television was blamed for corrupting the minds of youths years ago and how video games still are, though to a lesser extend, constantly blamed as being an influence to violence. The blame has passed on to the internet and now people primarily seem to focus on the problems and hype up the dangers of meeting strangers online. A lot of people forget the fact that literally hundreds of these same predators would not have been caught had it not been for the internet. In other words, I personally feel that the good has outweighed the bad and the majority of incidents only appear so incredible because of the sheer scale that the internet has put it on.

As far as crime and punishment is concerned, I'm inclined to agree.

The Internet for me is the best thing humanity has achieved. It has globalized the world and means everyone can contribute their voice to it. Yeah there are dark sides to it and we as a community should hunt down those sites and ban them. It baffles me that Corporations and Governments try to control it and use it to monitor their own users.

Hmmm... Sounds like a bit of a contradiction, if you don't mind my saying so.
