Based on the evidence in the episode I think the thread is the key and everpony in the mane six will get something similar after exempliphing their element like rarity did...
They've been ending every episode with a cliffhanger. I wouldn't be surprised if the keys were saved until a two part season finale, with everything from this season playing a part and connecting it all together.
I would love to see flutterbat be a key, and its just like "Really box. You knew that was going to happen. REALLY???" But yea, odds are that's likely the case.
Huh I didn't think of the fact that every episode has done that since some were of a slightly different nature from each other. That's interesting actually. Still when I saw the shadow pony scene it felt like something "Hey Arnold" or "Scooby Doo" would do and my first reaction was... really? Since I didn't think it was something MLP would do given they haven't used that sort of gimmick yet. (Don't get me wrong season 4 has been amazing so far!) If that's their intent though I'm impressed. I guess we'll have to see if it keeps up.. that said I'm not really sure if Daring Don't counts as a cliff hanger. Anyway that idea beside it's intersting to think of how the thread could relate to the box. I'm sure you noticed that the other spools next to each were the color of one of the main six so I guess it could represent their bond in some way. I wonder if all the keys will be rainbow in color. Rarity also saw a Rainbow when she thought of the fact that her friends were missing.
I think that the shadow pony and comic book are ending gags, flutterbat will return but isn't a key, and the thread Is a key
I think Fluttershy's fang, if anything, is just a remnant of her fruit bat illness. Like a scar. Maybe it will fall out and that's how it will become a key. The shadow pony could have just been a shadow of the villain of the season's finale. I'm not sure how the spool of thread will become a key. Maybe Rarity will use the thread for some important design and when the spool is out it will turn out to have hidden a key. The comic book just disappeared because the story was completed... and I don't remember any other hints that might have happened...
well it was a rainbow reflection sort of but it was interesting I thought. I just had a thought... if all the keys are actually rainbow what if the box has something to do with the recent rainbow pony toys. EQ did show a drawing from an Italian comercial in which they looked like those toys. Easy way to identify these "keys". Just look for the object to flash that "rainbow light" at the end.
Given how the medal RD had flashed rainbow, and how she once again saw Rainbows when she realized she was letting down her friends, I think this supports the Rainbow power theory I thought of last week. Also I've since seen that I'm not the only one who's thought of it, but I guess it's kind of blatent.
