More often than not, recently the main forum page has been loading dreadfully slow lately. I usually don't post something like this in bug reports, but since it's only for this one page on the entire site, and some other people i asked seem to be having similar issues, i figured this is something worth bringing up.

I can't remember exactly when it started, but you may want to look back at any and all changes you recently made to the site that may be causing this.

The FTP server times out during these periods I've noticed, so I would say it's more of a server hangup than the page itself.

I was thinking it was plain server lag, but thinking on it, it is when I try to go to the main forum page that I get the lag.

If it's a server issue, wouldn't that affect the entire site instead of just one page?

Yes, hence why I ping the FTP and the whole thing times out. And I personally have had it happen on the radio and sometimes when logging in or out. If the forumhome is a page you view often, and I would assume it is, it's moreso a coincidental occurrence. If it was a problem with the page itself, it'd make more sense if it happened every time. I'm not saying it couldn't be the page itself, but other signs point to that not being the case right now. I could be wrong though. One thing I will look for additionally, is I'll see if there is a specific page asset, like a script for example, that isn't loading quick enough.

Well, you're the expert on stuff like this so i'll leave you to it. The fact of the matter is it's getting really annoying, so i would prefer to have it fixed if it can be. (though this really is Tyro's job :p)

Well I'm just doing stuff from my local browser, I've got some time to kill. :p But the more I keep trying different pages, it does seem to centralize around the forumhome, so I may have spoken too soon. The only thing that we can see that has physically changed on the page is that the shoutcast indicator is not present.

It might sound a bit odd at first, but being that it is hidden might actually cause the page to lag. If the plugin was just SET via an option to not show when the server is detected to be offline and not completely DISABLED, the additional check the page needs to go through (ping the shoutcast server, wait for response, then decide what to do) could cause this lag. We know that the old server was taken down, so if the plugin is still trying to reach the old IP, it will further the wait time even more. Tyro The Fox, could you confirm if you have fully disabled the shoutcast plugin, and if not could you try this for a bit?

That's an excellent explanation I did not consider. I could not replicate these results on my system, that's the most likely the reason I left it to hide itself. I figured the check for whether there was anything in the first place to display was less intensive. I heard nothing until Fulcrum raised the issue on Skype while I did coursework. Even then, there's other possible explanations.

However, the widget is now disabled fully. Check back with me to see if it persists or not.

I guess my laptop and internet combination was enough to overcome the lag spike from the server check. Sorry for the gaff. Have a pleasant day.

"You are always trying to be noble Tyler..." Speedy says in a 'I don't like you' voice. He grins. "I respect that" He chuckles and pats Tyler on the back.
