I'm curious if anyone here has ever used plug.dj and whether or not a room intended for members of this site would be a good idea. If you've never used plug.dj before, it's basically a place where tons of people can stream music to listen to together, though really you can play any youtube video you want (looks like you can also play things from soundcloud). It's obviously mostly intended for music, and there's already a room intended for people to play pony-related music only. I don't use plug.dj much primarily because the brony room I know of plays a lot of electronic music, which is fine but I'm not the biggest fan of that type. I was thinking it would be fun to have a place where people could play any music they want, but that would make it difficult to keep things consistent. Of course, that's assuming there's even any interest in there being a room, and I'm open to ideas on making this something that works.
I like the idea of it, but this would probably gather the same amount of traffic that the radio does, which isn't much anyways I'm on board for an Everypony plug.dj room thingy
Well, I'm thinking I could also invite people from my other forum, and overall make it open for people to join from wherever. Again, that leads to potential problems of having any sort of structure to the room, if we don't restrict what kind of music can be played. I don't know if that would be good or bad.
If that were to be the case, then if there are options for mods of a room, we'd need to have some enforcing rules that would be put in place Either that, or just stick to the other pony room you mentioned in the op
Yeah. Unless there's a lot of interest for a room devoted to members of the site, I don't see any reason to try creating one.
Well the main thing you have to ask yourself about this is what can it contribute to the site other than just being there?
Well it would allow people to share music with each other, obviously. More so than the existing site radio allows, since people will all have a chance at playing music for others to listen to. It'll also be more of a passive and engaging process than the "what are you listening to now" thread which forces people to actively look at and listen to stuff where the plug.dj room they can leave playing in the background and go check on if they hear something interesting.
*cries because radio is barren* I guess if other people that aren't from the site go on there though, it could bring more traffic.
I have experience with using Plug.dj, but haven't moderated a room in it before. I do think this would be an interesting thing to at least give a test trial. From the other pony room I've seen, there are a lot of moderator options available. You can restrict who can DJ, how many songs people can play at a time, and other useful things. This could also be an outlet for those who have wanted to be DJ's on this site.
While i probably wouldn't be personally interested in this, i can see what i'd like to call "potential potential". I would approve of giving it a chance at least.
That is a great idea in my opinion, and if the staff are okay with it then you might be on too something Xalder.
Do you think you could be in charge of a room? I'll be available most of this week to help set things up in whatever way I can, but if you have more experience with the site, it'd be better to have you set up the room. Good point, if the room gets big and people from elsewhere use it, they can possibly get exposure to Everypony though it. *to. It's just an idea on my part, I'm not good at planning or setting stuff up, but I'm willing to help out wherever as much as possible. ^^;
I've already looked into setting up Communities on there, so I think I can get one going if the other staff agree to it.
Looks cool and all but I see two outcomes. This drawing away from our own radio especially if this is staff hosted and resources are being moved there, or it just being abandoned after a week or so...unless some steps are taken to integrate the two in some way.
If only stuff like the EP radio shows could be streamed through plug.dj as well. Maybe the plug.dj room could be shut down during EPR shows to encourage people to go view those. Also, I don't think radio staff necessarily need to be involved unless they want to be. I mostly just think it would be best if the room was started by a staff member of EP, even if none of the EP staff even view it with any regularity.
If it gets official recognition with EP, preferably there should be staff present to make sure it keeps within the terms of the site. So perhaps new specific staff members could be designated to positions in the plug.dj room, bouncers, ambassadors, etc.
I happened to see someone mentioning the link to the plug.dj room on the radio chat yesterday, but i didn't get a chance to take a look. Maybe it could be posted here as well? I'm curious to see what it's about at least.
