My brother really likes Pinkie Pie so I made a Pinkie Pie door plaque for him that says "Welcome" on it. I wanted to try my hand at woodcarving/etching and it was my first attempt at it. The plaque is about 8"x11" (roundabouts), was cut out using a scroll saw, etched using a Dremel and hand sanded. View attachment 7814 A few people had seen the Pinkie Pie plaque and wanted to see another one so I made an Apple Jack one. This time I made the sign reversible. One side says "C'mon In" and the other side says "Sleeping". Same process from the first one as far as making it. View attachment 7815 What do you guys think? After I had made these two I wanted to try a jewelry box. So my wife went to a craft store and got one of their plain boxes for me and we decided to us Fluttershy for it. We designed the heart motif's on the sides of it. View attachment 7816 View attachment 7817 What do yo think? Right now I am in the process of making a large 3D pony. I am using 2x12 wood and 1x10 wood for all of the pieces. I just painted the base coat Thursday night. Tonight will be some of the detailed work (eyes, mane, tail, etc). While my wife does that for me (she's awesome at detailed work) I will build a stand for her since she can't quite stand on her own. What will I make the stand look like? NOT GONNA SAY. :derpe: You'll have to wait until it's all done and painted. I'm not even gonna show the WIP of the base. I want it to be a surprise. Here is the WIP of the pony so far. What do we think, what do we think, what do we think? Just giving you a hard time, it all looks really awesome!
Here is another WIP pic. Just need to accentuate the wings for this side then it will be done. All that will be left to be painted will be the other side. View attachment 7824
Oh wow, Ryu! When I said you should post some of your woodworkings I wasn't expecting to see so much awesomeness!! That Fluttershy jewelry box was so amazing. The detail was unbelievable and I really want a box like that >.< That Rainbow Dash is just unbelievable. Your wife did an unbelievable job on those details. That would make an excellent mantle piece for any brony. Will you be doing more 3D ponies? You've really outdone yourself with these wood works. Can't wait to see more of your work ^^
We could make a box for you if you wanted, just PM me. She was a practice piece to see how the dremel worked on that type of wood. The box is from a craft store. I do plan on making more models after this one. This is our first one so we get to see what we can change, how to make it simpler and what not. It's pretty big. She is 16" tall, about 21" long and 5 1/2" thick. We are going to try making smaller ones, still trying to figure out what wood to use. AND, we will be putting a base on her today so it will look even better. I really hope everyone likes the base I'm going to put on.
Those are absolutely amazing!! Beautiful work!!!!! The painting on the AJ plaque looks really fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing RD's base. Given what you said to nights, are you possibly considering selling work or taking general commissions? Depending on prices and such I may consider trying to come up with something for a graduation gift for one of my friends. It's just an idea at this point though.
Bad news for the Rainbow Dash model. It broke. I set it up to finish it, turned back to grab something and one of my cats had other plans. They knocked it down and broke the tail, both back legs and a wing. I'm going to get arrow glue today and glue it back together. Looks like she will be our mantle piece. I'm really upset because I wanted to save her for a Brony/Pony con to put in a charity auction. I am going to try and make a smaller one and see how that is. I will still put the base together, try gluing her back together so everyone can see what she was supposed to look like. I will use the base for the next project it seems. - - Auto Merge - - Yes I am considering doing commissions and selling my work. We've only done a few pieces so far as practice. I don't think I'm supposed to post this but since I was asked I will put up pricing for the types of wood work I have so far. Door Plaques: they are about the size of a sheet of paper so roughly 8.5"x11" (just slightly smaller) Just carved out like Pinkie Pie is $25 +shipping Painted like Apple Jack is $30 +shipping If you want it painted then sealed (gives it a shiny look), then it's $35 +shipping Jewelry boxes: for just a picture done on the lid it would be $15 +shipping a picture on the lid and something on the sides $20 +shipping if we hand made the box with picture on top $25 +shipping if we hand made the box with picture on tip and sides $30 +shipping So the Fluttershy one we did for example would be $20 +shipping. I have not figured out anything for the models yet because I am still figuring out how I want to do those. When I have that figured out and know the style I want to do then I can post something about it.
Thank you very much for posting that. Also, I am so sorry as to what happened to your Rainbow Dash. Best of luck putting her back together, she looked great!
Thank you very much. I told my brother about it and he joked that she was now Rainbow Crash. I couldn't help but laugh at that. LOL.
That sucks for the RD project!!! I was looking forward to seeing that and it was looking so cool! Just keep up the awesome work and, for the love of Celestia, KEEP THOSE CATS AWAY!!!
Ok, so tonight (Tuesday) I worked on two projects. 1) Jewelry/Trinket box: I cut out the pieces of our jewelry box. It is the head of a character. I'm not gonna tell anyone who it is until I get it etched and show everyone. The box is made from a 2" thick board (so it's really 1.25"-1.5" thick) and two different sized craft plywood. This will swivel using a dowel rod so the lid will be removable. All I got done was putting the bottom on it, mudding it and getting it sanded. View attachment 7834 2) New RD model: for this all I got done was getting all of the pieces cut out and I rounded and sanded the legs as well as put the head pieces together and mudded those to be shaped later. These are cut out of a 1" thick board. View attachment 7835
Thank you. I will have a picture of the etched box later tonight. - - Auto Merge - - Ok, here it is. I finally finished etching the lid. Already did a rough sanding on it so all it needs is a finish sanding then painted. What do you think of her?: View attachment 7836
Thank you very much. She was pretty fun to do. I reliefed a few parts of her to try and make it look like some things were farther away. I can't wait to see now this turns out painted.
FINALLY. Princess Celestia is ready to make her debut. She is so excited to be going to one of Pinkie Pie's parties. How do you ponies/bronies think she looks? Think she will be the life of the party? View attachment 7846 View attachment 7847
