I'm not sure where else to put it since it's strictly a roleplay section problem, so I guessed the out of character chat section seemed appropriate. Has anyone else noticed that every single Roleplayer who comes to this site immediately goes into one of the dead rps and posts asking to join? And then after someone explains the rules, they usually go and do something else incorrectly and get the rules told to them again? We really need some way to tell people on the site what to do before they don't do it.
I think there's one somewhere out there. I just think newbies need to learn how to the dates on top of each post that's easily noticed.
True. But theres still the whole you have to explain the rules to them 2 times (sometimes 5 in some very special cases) which is very annoying. If we could get like... a stickied "rules" thread in the main roleplay section where every new roleplayer thinks they have to go to sign up (despite there being an out of character section and a character sheets section clearly visible above it) I think it would simply remove the need to explain it over and over again.
I certainly hope someone who intends to replicate the complicated range of emotions living things are capable of in a realistic manner would be more intelligent than that... - - Auto Merge - - That seems like a silly way to solve it...
Maybe we could have a redirect for newbies that appears when they click on an RP, asking them to read the rules, with a link to said stickied thread. Sort of like the one that pops up when you go to serious discussion for the first time.
Hmm, well, I think that despite what we do, SOME people are still going to come in, and choose a role play with the prettiest title, and necro it. That said, I didn't even know there was a redirect feature for Serious Discussion. I can discuss this with the rest of the staff and see what they think. :3
Mmm, as for the thread closing, we decided a while back that ponies who wanted their old RPs closed would have to request it. Mostly for the reasons already discussed. My technical admin fox in crime, who would have the answers about redirections and such, is on a short LOA... but I shall see what sort of options are available once he's free again.
Awesome. Thanks guys. Hopefully it'll make things a bit easier for both old and new RPers on the forum to get this sorted out. Go team everypony! >.>
