Flutterguy's voice was deeper than it was before...

I enjoyed this episode. Of course there was the obvious plot hole with Fluttershy being on stage before this episode, but I think her having stage fright is a little truer to who she is.

As a guy who loves to sing but once had horrible stage fright, this episode really spoke to me on a personal level. As a result, I really enjoyed it. Continuity issue be damned, I don't care. Great episode!

A good episode, but not one of my favorites. It just struck a chord too close to my heart with the stage fright and Pinkie's description of the crowd was once my literal view of how people perceived me. However I did enjoy the message of the episode in that it takes "baby steps" to overcome a fear and gives younger viewers a good way to cope with such situations.

    Overall, 6.5 Out of Ten.

I guess... it seemed different doing something like singing which she wasn't used to people watching her doing. She probably didn't feel as confident in that ability as others did. Similar to flying in front of people in hurricane fluttershy, except since it was something she liked doing she'd probably feel more hurt if it didn't go well. Also, she got nervioius with the fame she recieved with Photo Finish... Still Hearth's Warming Eve is rather odd in that regard. She may have felt more comfortable in costume.. but it still was pretty obvious who she was... yeah.. that's the best I have to offer..

    - - Auto Merge - -

I thought it was just the singing voice that was different but could be wrong. A lot of ponies have a different person for their singing and speaking voice, but often it's hard to tell and it was more obvious with this one.

Anyway this stuff aside, I liked the episode and found the concept pretty amusing. I also personally found Pinkie funny... but I'm used to her being completely unable to have any concept of empathy for others. She's not actively trying to be mean, it's just a trait she has. That said I'm sure it's not funny if you are currently upset and have to put up with it. Still I know if she was able to strongly understand how upset the other person was she would try to help them, though she may not always realize how some actions would make things better or worse.

Well Fluttershy did say she had stage fright at the beginning of Hearth's Warming but it was just emphasized less. Most likely for time.

True, but I didn't really mind. Fluttershy with a very deep, male voice in general makes for good viewing, but that's just my opinion :)

I enjoyed it. They gave us what we wanted without overdoing it. And Rarity makes anything she wears look good.

Alright...so I'm watching this episode right naow, and I got to the part where Pinkie pretty much destroys Fluttershy with her, errr... "insightful" monologue.

It instantly reminded me of Cheryl (from Archer) and when she did pretty much the same thing to Lana. xD

...omg...return of Flutterguy hahaa. Best episode evah

Although seriously...Pinkie is like a total sociopath in this episode

Pinkie was over the top in this episode, granted, I didn't think she was as bad as Rainbow Dash is multiple previous episodes. [IMG]

It's all about perception and preferences. I've grown to like Pinkie Pie a lot more with her episodes with Weird Al - I mean Cheese Sandwich.

I saw the dated reference in the title and groaned, but it turned out to be one of the better fluff episodes IMO. Even enjoyed it more than "Bats" as a Flutters episode. Everything with Big Mac was just awesome - from when he actually started singing (just about gave me a heart attack) to his "explanation" to AJ. Just priceless. The only area in which I felt the episode kind of dragged was the fact that their performances all around town reused the same song over and over again; even if it wasn't the writers' intent, it kinda felt like that song was being beaten into my head relentlessly, so a little more variety on the Pony Tones' set list would've been appreciated on my end. But that's pretty much where my gripes end.

On a side note, I didn't have a problem with Pinkie in this episode. Yes, she was a bit insensitive, but not intentionally so. She was still well-meaning, despite how spectacularly her words backfired. The 'unintentional nuisance' aspect of her character didn't bother me in "A Friend in Deed", so it didn't strike me as somehow 'malicious' here.

Big Macintosh .... singing....probably one of the most swoonable moments for me thus far! Also the shipping is strong with this one .... if that's your thing. Was really nice to see some character development for Fluttershy though, and that she's now actively trying to come out of her shell a bit, you go girl! Having extreme anxiety myself, guess it always made her and her situation relatable. Never thought I'd be proud of a cartoon character though, but there you have it. Didn't catch the title reference at first first 'cuz I'm slow, but made for a good chuckle (and secretly want to dig through my cassette collection ... yes I have it somewhere ......shaddup) The episode may have came at the expense of story continuity, but I don't really care. If it stays generally true and was enjoyable, then that's all that matters. On the downside though, the season is now more then half way over, say it ain't so!

I can't say much that hasn't been said, but I can sure try!

A lot of people, me included didn't like how Fluttershy is contradicting her canon here by being to shy to perform when she's clearly done it before and in fact in BIGGER shows, that were LESS necessary than one to raise money for her animals. . . This is from the same girl who conquered her fear of dragons when her friends needed her. Did her animals not need her? But whatever I can overlook that because I know how irrational phobias can be. Maybe Fluttershy's stage fright was temporarily conquered for that performance but now has resurfaced? It helps too that the music in this episode was great, and that there were several things in it like Cheerilee swooning over Mac that just made it awesome for me.

Could I find a lot wrong with this episode? Absolutely. Can I see myself disliking it for these reasons? Not at all. For me, yes it is bothersome that Fluttershy is making reverse progress, and of course I am VERY staunch in my belief of the importance of continuity, but it was not an episode that was supposed to be focusing on the narrative as much, in my eyes at least.

The episode seems more like a "filler" episode, and I in no way find that to be a bad thing. In fact I kind of think it's good to some degree because we can use a break from the narrative at times to cut off the monotony. And this episode is supposed to be fun, like the Power Ponies episode which I very much loved. The narrative takes back seat in this episode mainly because it introduced new lore (The Ponytones, and Mac can sing REALLY well), and because it had fan-callbacks such as "flutterguy."

Also, I really liked Applejack in this episode. The way that she just has this down-to-earth intuition, similar to Pinkie's completely-bat****-crazy-yet-still-somehow-always-correct intuition, just makes me laugh. When she was talking to Big Mac and they had the exchange that was something like "Turkey Call?" "Eeyup." "Needed a backup?" "Eeyup." "Flutterguy?" "Eeyup."

I'd give this episode a satisfactory grade, as it was far far far from perfect. But I enjoyed it thoroughly none-the-less.

I noticed that Rarity literally bops Pinkie Pie on the head with a rolled up paper. That was amazingly perfect.

I guess the episode was mostly okay, even though it did have it's problems. It would probably have made a great season 1 episode, but by season 4, I just don't get why Fluttershy's friends act as if they never heard her sing before, just as Fluttershy acts as if she never performed on stage before. Don't you just hate it when the episodes that try to give a sense of continuity also contain the most stupid contradictions?
And speaking of hate... words can not properly describe how annoyed I was by Pinkie this whole entire episode.

"Nuuu!" Eris giggled, as he made her fur wet with his nuzzling, then buried her face in his mane, still giggling.

"So, do you want to start your lessons?" She asked, after they'd finished eating.
