He's been presented to me as a complete loony via whatever I've seen him in. I wonder how many people he's turned off this campaign just by being there.

I'm just gonna see how the story progresses. I hope the best for the kid and more importantly, hope the right people are punished and that they learn from they're actions. I too remain skeptical of Glenn and the conservative media in general.

    And this matters how?

What, suddenly just because one person who has controversial opinions that most people don't agree with (Myself included) tries to bring this to light, the whole thing is entirely invalid and pointless?

The fact that this was brought into the national spotlight by a man with a reputation for sensationalism and dishonesty led me to question the credibility of the whole affair.

A little bit of research, and I was able to confirm the story was true, but I can't help but wonder how many people saw Glenn Beck's name attached to this and immediately dismissed it as more of his BS.

In this case, having Glenn Beck involved is more likely doing more harm than good.

I would compare it to having the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church support an otherwise worthy cause.

Er, this story was nationwide looong before Glen Bleckle got his hands on the story, at least 3-4 days beforehand; it was circling tumblr and facebook like crazy.

Comparing Glen Bleckle to the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church also is just stupid. He has differing opinions than most, which automatically makes him the anti-christ?

Jeez, whatever happened to freedom of speech..

I'm not really saying that Glenn Beck is like the KKK or the WBC, I'm just saying that wackjobs like him tend to do more harm than good to whatever cause they're supporting.
I used those two groups because they're internationally recognized as extreme examples of hate and ignorance.

Also, even if something is all over Facebook and Tumblr, that doesn't necessarily make it national news.
Most things on those sites are only seen by the people that have an interest in them.

Well USA Today is supporting #SupportForGrayson Facebook campaign, and ABC News put a spotlight on this as well. It's not just Glen Beck on his soap box.

As for the bullying, I fully endorse beating the crap outta bullies, one bully I had only needed to be slammed into the wall once to stop harassing me. Grayson being too scared to act to defend himself is understandable, I point the finger of shame at those that saw the bullying and did nothing!

And for a news story update, the school has decided to outright ban the lunchbox as it incites bullying, which ABC compared to saying women in mini-skirts are asking to be raped.

    Right here!

We're exercising it right now by expressing how horrible a human being we believe Glenn Beck to be.

For some of us, this is the first time we've heard of this. It certainly is for me and the very first thing I hear about it is Glen Beck is supporting this. I've explained that even I don't have a high opinion of the man and I'm sitting an ocean away. I think it's understandable to be sceptical going in because of Beck's reputation, both as a nutball and as a less than stand up guy. Maybe he's actually passionate about this or maybe it's just him riding publicity. Either way, I'm more comfortable with joining knowing that Beck didn't have anything to do with the inception of this campaign. He seems like the sort of eye-swivelling loony that shouldn't have a TV career, at least to me. I find that a little scary that he has a following.

Although it's definitely hyperbole, a comparison to the KKK or the Westboro Baptist Church seems apt in the sense that there's a following for what seems like a strange set of ideals. But, it's just exaggeration. Don't worry about it.

Never said you couldn't do that.

It just upsets me that people think that just because someone with a less than fun reputation brings up something that's entirely relevant, it somehow has to be taken as a bad thing.

Pretty simple. I never want to have to utter the words "Glenn Beck is right" at any point in time.

But when he's right, he's right.

Little bit of human decency from his peers, I'm guessing. WHAT was he thinking, right?

He probably thought that because his parents were okay with him liking My Little Pony, everybody would be okay with him liking My Little Pony.

It's sad that he's being forced to learn the true nature of the world at nine years old, but hopefully, he'll become stronger for the experience.

    Okay, that's enough.

The 'true nature of the world' isn't 'Everyone is going to hate you for liking something weird'. The true nature of the world is however the hell you make it.

The true nature of humanity is ignorance and intolerance.
It's been that way since the very beginning, and that is not going to change.

What people consider "normal" has changed over the years, but attitudes towards people who fall outside society's accepted definition of normal have always been mistrust, intolerance, and very often violence.

A person, or even small groups of people, may be tolerant and enlightened, but human nature cannot be changed, just as a wild animal can never be truly tamed.

I believe you are being slightly naive in stating that the world is what you make of it.
A person's own life is what they make of it, that is true.
However, unless they are living somewhere far away from other people, they will always be accountable to society as a whole.
If they are strong enough to stand up to, or the very least ignore, the scrutiny of society, they may eventually be accepted.
If they are weak, then they will either learn to conform, or be torn apart.
That is the the nature of the human race.
    Violent, intolerant, and destructive.

The true nature of humanity is "fear of the unknown". Pretty much all hatred, fear, ignorance, intolerance, etc. stems from that all-encompassing root fear. It's the fear that has kept humanity alive. It's the one thing that's attributed to its survival. It's what causes our unique "fight or flight" response.

Some fight this fear by attacking it with ignorant hatred. They don't understand it, and they hate that they don't understand it because not understanding scares them. They hate that it scares them, but because they hate it, they're too prideful to learn about it, thus bringing about the ignorant hatred. This leads to things like racism (the full spectrum from casual to full racial subjugation), religious zealotry, war, etc. Some fight the fear by attempting to conquer it or vanquish it by making it not unknown. Attempting to figure out the unknown phenomenon. Reaching out in the darkness to learn about unknown things. The scientific method of discovery. Some avoid the unknown as best they can.

No matter how we each approach situations, fear of the unknown is at every person's core.

Wow, we got philosophical on this one with the turning circle of a five pence piece!

Anyway, bringing this back to the original point, I don't think it's a terrible view point to be apprehensive about something because a disreputable person has lent their support to something. Granted, Beck isn't the figurehead of this but I was seriously concerned about why he was there and I think rightfully so when that was the only thing I knew about this. A poor reputation can be a cause for alarm because of the desire to avoid being scammed for someone else's benefit.

Imagine if Dick Dastardly was manning a fun run for Cancer Research. Your first reaction isn't likely to be to join up, it'll be what is he up to for we all should know that Mr Dastardly wants nothing more than to catch the pigeon. And in his quest to catch the pigeon, he might be inclined to set up a scam to get money from the cause so he might catch the pigeon with the funds. His soul goal is to catch that pigeon now, not help a worthy cause.

A bit of cynicism is reasonable. It's possible Dastardly has actually planned to send the money straight to charity. It's possible there's a shrivelled ruin of a heart in there somewhere that is manfully attempting to keep him alive and fill some part of him with love and kindness but it's still going to be watched like a hawk, simply because he is Dick Dastardly.

I see Beck in this the same way. I can see this as a publicity stunt and not something he truly cares about. However, good press for the Brony Community can't hurt. It's likely a drop in the ocean but hey! It's better than nothing! I'd have preferred this come from almost anyone else but I can't see any harm joining in. I just won't be standing with the guy I called an eye-swivelling loony. He might hit me...

P.S. Enjoying that theme music that popped up in your head like I pushed play on your brain?
