Its more of a "Thing that seems to happen a lot." Self aware life might be the fluke. And they have been finding more evidence for it.
Given that the universe is - according to two common philosophical stand points - one of either entirely predetermined or entirely random, then either self aware life is not a fluke, or everything is. Which one is correct isn't particularly relevant in my opinion. Sitting comfortably between to philosophical stand points has advantages. Both of them seem satisfactory. I'm kind of a cosmic apathist moving from religious once i realized how absolutely nonsensicle the whole thing is. So whichever one is correct i wouldn't care. But it is reasonable to assume that either everything is a fluke or everything that isn't everything is a fluke. I.E the cosmic nether void isn't empty but rather its just a bunch of chaos and half formed universes with eldritch forms crawling about.
