I'm practically the most open-minded person I know, (when it comes to certain subjects) though, I don't think you'd get that based on a first impression.
Old thread is old, but to answer the question, all I can say is that my convictions are not set in stone. Certainly I have beliefs that I may seem to hold steadfastly to, but nothing I believe is totally, 100% immalleable since I'm willing to alter my point of view on an issue if I'm presented arguments and evidence that I deem compelling enough.
I like too think I'm open-minded but it takes me a long time to change my outlook on a situation, mainly because I delve too deep into the matter and end up confusing myself. One thing that relates to open mindedness is the ability to make up ones own beliefs and not be persuaded or influenced by others. Looking at each angle from different sources is the best way to understand a situation instead of relying on family, friends or even your favorite TV show to paint the picture for you. When im certain in what I believe, I do struggle to understand or argue with someone who has a different opinion on the matter. Sometimes I come across as narcissistic, other times I fail to convince the person and instead end up agreeing with them, just to keep the peace. It's a lot easier to argue your beliefs when you're in the majority.
I see myself as open minded...i tend to only make an opinion based on serious thought and evidence so while im not easy to convince or change my mind on things, its usually because i dont have to because i have the full view of all possible points of view of the thing im thinking about...im always aware of other perspectives and base my opinion on all possible options so my opinion is usually a combination or a middle ground opnion that both sides seem to overlook
Like Maple I think I'm the most open-minded person I know. A lot of people I know tend to be quite narrow-minded and aren't nearly as open-minded as they give themselves credit for.
Care to elaborate? What does sharing information have to do with being open-minded and how is withholding information a sin?
I am going to be honest: I am as open-minded as I can be and I don't mind expressing myself about uncomfortable stuff either. I tolerate pretty much anything and would consider myself rather stupid for being so open-minded at times.
I'm open-minded, up to a point. Being too open-minded is a bad idea. There's a thin line between "open-minded" and "gullible."
I lean to the right, so I'm biased against things that seem socialist. I'm also very pro-Israel, so I'm biased against anything attacking them, both physically and figuratively. As far as people go, I'm pretty tolerant, but there are many, many things I'd never want to do. I don't drink alcohol or take any illegal drugs; I'm scared of parties/raves, and I don't play sports. I can't stand most if not all current popular music, so I shut it all out. Generally I'm very timid and unwilling to take risks, so while I'm accepting of open-minded people, I'm not willing to take the same leaps as others.
I'd like to think that I'm open-minded, the problem is that people seem to call me out for being that way. I have no idea if anyone else feels this way but it seems that if I ever have a debate with someone and I change my position on whatever we are talking about they see it as a sign of weakness, or a lack of intelligence.
I'd like to think I have a healthy balance between letting people think what they will, and letting people know they are a dumbass.
Let's be honest though; everyone has their prejudices. It's just like the song from Avenue Q, "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist".
You can't be prejudiced if you don't care! Apathy is the great equalizer. Sent from my SHIELD using Tapatalk
