To be fair, the CBSA is way stricter about what gets into the country than U.S. Customs. Hell, U.S. Customs even let this into our country: We keep trying to send it back, but like I said earlier, the CBSA is really picky about what gets into Canada.

Implying dubs. Dubs are always terrible things. Unless you're on /s4s/. But that's completely different.
I agree. I think dubs get slammed by people who find the original Japanese to be "more authentic", but there are some dubs that I argue are perfect reflections of their Japanese counterparts but have a bad reputation because people say the voices "sound weird." Yeah, okay, but would the people who say that recognize what sounds weird or not in a Japanese voice? More often than not, they wouldn't. Sometimes the Japanese voices sound just as bad/mediocre as the English ones we slander, but nobody notices because they aren't accustomed speaking with Japanese people. I think it's the sign of our own ignorance to say that "Japanese is such a beautiful language" when most of us don't even speak it, or to say that "Dubs are bad" when in many cases the dubbed voices are actually a proper translation of how the voice was supposed to sound. Weird characters sometimes have weird voices, but nobody thinks about that, do they? Overall, I think dubs used to be much worse because we had yet to acquire any conventions fro translating Japanese humor and vocal ranges into English. Things have gotten much better since anime first became popular in America; the arguments against dubbed anime have only weakened over time.
I started watching Subs because some of the anime I wanted to watch was never really dubbed. Some of the stuff I watched isn't released outside Japan, see? But honestly, even in the odd case the dubs don't sound terrible, I'd rather watch the original simply because that's how it was originally intended. And since the scripts of dubbed versions are sometimes not true to the original script, I find it to be the safest bet. Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are cousins, right? Right? ... Right? ... Right? ... ... ... Right? What does that matter? I don't recognise whether it sounds weird or not in a Japanese voice, and so it doesn't sound weird to me. For me that's a good thing. I'd rather it not sound weird. So long as I don't notice, it doesn't interrupt my enjoyment of the anime, which the odd-sounding dub would. Most the dubs I've heard are also pretty terribly acted- Even some of the newer ones. I think one of the few exceptions was Hell Sing, which actually sounded alright. I think that even if dubs ever do get to a stage where they're generally as well done as the original, I'll probably stick to subs.

The only reason why it would matter, really, is because if you ever did gain the kind of experience to hear a Japanese voice actor within the context of their own vocal range and not a non-Japanese vocal range, you'd likely pick up on how ridiculous they often sound. The fact that you'd rather it not sound weird is essentially the reason why it matters. Follow me for a second and maybe you'll see what I'm on about. I think some dubs are poorly acted, as are some subs. It happens; sometimes, one can often only get so much emotion out using one's own voice alone when you have to match it to a moving picture. Some people either overreach or fall short and that's just the unfortunate fact of voice-acting. It used to happen much more frequently in dubbed anime because American companies didn't care to spend the money to hire talented, established voice actors. The bottom line as I see it is this: people can like whatever they want and they can watch whatever they want, but the moment they start to say anything that invalidates what other people like and watch, that's where they've crossed the line. They'd better have some unique experience to back up a claim like that, or else they're talking out of their arse. You say that you wouldn't recognize what sounds weird in a Japanese voice whereas you would recognize what sounds strange in an English-speaking voice. That's fine for your own tastes and practices, but it doesn't really give you the expert authority to compare subs and dubs to each other. It's apples and oranges, really. The words in Japanese often don't translate half of their meaning to English; your options are essentially to learn another language or to be content with only understanding half of what you hear/see. There isn't anything wrong with either of those choices. If you don't want to learn Japanese, you can still enjoy subbed anime perfectly well, but my point stands: you can't compare it to the dub if you haven't any experience with Japanese language. You're allowed to have your own opinion, it just doesn't have to mean anything relevant to anybody else.
This sentiment applies rather nicely to this killjoy I know from another pony forum who likes to bash on season 4 incessantly. At one point he outright declared that anyone who hasn't been getting as worked up about it as he has is "settling for mediocrity". Which really rubs me the wrong way, since that statement attempts to invalidate the personal tastes of everyone who's been perfectly happy with this season, and treats his own tastes as the be-all, end-all standard that the rest of us should follow. BS.
Methinks someone thinks they're more important than they really are; I really find people like this annoying. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the show.
