Not now, but in the future it eventually will happen. The fanbase will take a while to go down, but as for the show itself, who knows how it may be in the future. (Cancel Series, Problems, Etc...)
If this reaches 5 seasons it will officially be the best TV show I have ever seen in my life. The fandom needs to stay active for Studio B to justify keeping it going that long.
If this does happen, I hope that the animation stays the same and isn't like the previous generations.
I predict there will probably be more fanworks for quite a while after the end of the show. I've seen it in other fandoms of fictional works that have been complete for years. That being said, you're right--it's likely that, someday, the fandom will "die off", so to speak.
I dunno if this has already been said here, but I don't think the fandom, even once the show itself is gone, is going away anytime soon. As long as the websites are up, I'll keep going, because I do stuff for the people I meet, not just the show. Personally, I think the worst case scenario is the show turns BAD, drives of most of everypony, except for the hipsters and the ones who stay with the first/second season. But if the show is cancelled(hopefully not soon) then I'll still be here.
Honestly, even if at some point the show takes a turn for the worse, I think a lot of the fans would stay, simply because it was so enjoyable and the community and fan-art are so awesome. The show itself will most likely only last at the most a few more years, but it's ridiculous how dedicated this fandom is, so I have a feeling we're going to be bronies for a lot longer.
Dying? HA! I beg to differ. This Plague is still continuing to grow, as we speak. Will Bronyism still exist after it's cancellation? Yes. Don't forget it was us that made it possible for this big of a internet phenomenon to be a memory to all those who remember or watched one time in their lives.
I found out that there are 93 other bronies in my city alone, so I doubt this fandom could ever die. AND IF IT DOES IT WILL $#$%ING CUT YOU!
Well, I don't think I can predict with absolute certainty when it'll end. I think as long as new episodes are being released it'll maintain its momentum, and then the fandom should last a long while after episodes end. For example, we were still very interested during the break between Season 1 and Season 2. If I remember correctly, we were still interested before a second season was confirmed. Even after it all ends, I'm sure we'll still have some die-hard fans that'll stick around for many years, perhaps decades after, just like other fandoms. It'll just become esoteric, relative to the Internet, at least.
I came into the fandom after the first season had aired. This new concept of having to wait for episodes is driving me insane!
Especially since The Hub hasn't gotten the memo that the release pattern that works for toddlers does not work for everypony else.
Every fandom goes through something like this. It won't die off, it just won't be as active and popular as it once was. Eventually the show will stop having new seasons, a new good movie or new well done show will hog all the new attention, and MLP:FiM mainly will just be in the back of most people's memory till someone mentions them. The hardcore fans of the show will always remember them and keep it alive with art, stories, cosplay, PMV's and in other ways. Don't worry about it and just enjoy the ponies as they are today.
I'm a fan of many things that are (all, but) dead. When something ends, it doesn't mean you stop liking it. I see no reason why I would stop if it were to end now.
Maybe MLP: FiM will go on to beat even The Simpsons in terms of series length. I believe that would be an acceptable amount if it absolutely has to end.
The fandom dying? It is inevitable, Mr. Anderson. Oh, I love the Matrix. As for when it dies, I have no idea. Hopefully in a supreme amount of years.
If this fandom falls I want it to fall after I die. I highly doubt it will be going anywhere any time soon.
