    Victory!

I like experimenting with new strategies. This time I had no KotR or 4-Cut. Time to restart the game and re-organize my materia for round 2.

So I decided to start another character on Darksouls. It's surprisingly easy when you know what you're doing. I was past the Taurus demon in 20 minutes from starting.

Yeah, Dark Souls isn't too hard the second time around. It's more about experience and getting a feel for the combat, rather than it being just a hard game.

That's what makes it good. There are a variety of enemies that you have to try to defeat with different combat styles so you're constantly having to adapt and you're rewarded when you learn their attacks by beating them and feeling bada** afterwards xD

Its less of an arpg and more of a real time combat strategy.

Because you can't just mindlessly bash and combo like in most sword games. You have to time and coordinate attacks and defenses properly. As well as your movement.

You also need to keep an eye on any other enemies in the area.

Basically it requires more braincells than the average game.

    That depends.
Do you enjoy beating your head against a brick wall while being kicked repeatedly in the groin?

Oh no, not at all. It's a great game, and a lot better than most of the games in it genre. It's just that, because of the very steep difficulty curves and no system to guide you through it by holding your hand, it's a very challenging game. Any player will tell you that getting up to even 20 deaths in the same area is very possible, hence the 'beating your head against a brick wall' part.

Somehow I saw this coming.. Yes, the entire Souls collection is hard, but that's because it's pretty much the same game.

As for other games, it really depends on the type. A lot of platformers (Think for example, Super Meat Boy), are hard. Not because it has unforgiving combat or extremely difficult puzzles, but because they require absolute timing and tight controls. What kind of genre are you looking for?

Yeah, but I'm not very good at Dark Souls and so I chose the absolute safest (if most monotonous) tactic.

It is a good game. I think the positives of its high difficulty are that it's really only hard in its learning curve. You start out and get beaten up a lot, but once you figure something out you have a lot of fun. In that respect, it's rather like a puzzle game. An action puzzle game, I suppose. The negatives of its difficulty are that each playstyle always has an optimal method of victory against each enemy, and if you stray from that best-fit path you won't have a good time; the emphasis on making smart choices inevitably turns into the focus on making the smartest choice. But the game is deep enough and has enough different playstyles to offset that detriment, which really means that you'd probably get a lot more out of it by playing through the game a few times using entirely different character builds each time.

As for what other games are hard, I'd like to pick out the one I'm currently playing as an example: "The Last of Us."

TLoU has its learning curve, which is not nearly as steep as any of the Souls games and therefore can be thought of as being easier. However, where TLoU shines as bright as the Souls games is in the players ability to handicap themselves and play the game at its hardest. You have the ability to choose between five difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, Hard, Survivor, Grounded) which severely alter the game in and out of the player's favor. Enemy damage, enemy intelligence, player abilities and supply drops change with the difficulty. I find the game to be somewhat challenging even on Normal, and so I'm eager to try a higher difficulty setting the next time through. It's obviously harder in a completely different way than Dark Souls is, and therefore is hardly comparable, but I like the challenge I get out of it and the story is great so far.

It's absolutely that. I thought it was just a troll but the sincerity they showed to unfollow me actually is more worrying than if it was a troll. :<

You just missed out on a prime opportunity to troll a bunch of racist *squee!*s.

Also, I looked at their Tumblr.
I hate people who use the Confederate Flag to promote white supremacy.
It's because of people like them that the symbol of Southern pride has been perverted into a symbol of intolerance.

I acted kindly and thought that if I got a 'U mad bro'-esque type of response, that I could breathe a sigh of relief in knowing that they're just trolling. But when I got back kindness I felt sickier than what I already am. D:

So glad that they unfollowed! Then their followers might have seen my blog and got the wrong idea...What a mess!
