There are many reasons, including: -It allows pony fans to view a massive, constantly updated repository of MLP fanart, memes, and screencaps. -It gives artists a place to post their fanart for honest peer review. -How else are the sad and lonely people supposed to get their pony porn?

My friend lives in a two room apartment and shares his bedroom with his brother and sometimes with his niece and brother's girlfriend, and he manages to do well enough for himself. You might try going outside if you need a little space. I always used to study at the library, about two miles from my house.
