I know some of us here are either learning or would like to learn a number of languages, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread so we can discuss languages, what we'd like to learn and share resources we're using to learn them. I can already think of one person who'd love this thread, and I do hope to get some help in my own endeavours, sharing my own knowledge too! So to start things up, I'd love some help in learning German! I've been taught a few basic things so far and I'd really like to pursue the language more. My goal is to ultimately be able to understand the language enough to converse with a native speaker about most things, though fluency would probably be a long term goal too. That being said, I know it takes time, and would appreciate the help! In return, I'd be happy to help anyone in learning or improving their english ^^
I personally want to learn Japanese. I tried this one program thing, but it didn't really seem very effective. I'm taking a Japanese class next tri. Uhh, I guess I'm good at English and stuff...
Have you tried, Rosetta stone and the other stuff like it. I have Megajapanese, I only learned the colors. I got distracted by other stuff. I guess I could help with english as well.
I am a fluent English, and Korean Speaker, and I know quite a few German words. Not all of them though. If you guys need help with this, let me know.
Well I assume a lot of us here know english, I just mentioned it for the few that don't. Does anyone know any decent free courses or software, since I'm sure not everyone can pay for one. I've signed up to babbel.com which seems to be decent and free so far ^^

As for learning German, I wouldn't sign up to too many sites such as Rosetta Stone, seeing as though they shove a ton of words in your face and no grammar. Seriously, grammar is vital. Saying that, I'm not such a good teacher. I'm more of a lecturer. I know who you're planning to get help from, though. Ist das nicht richtig, Flash?
Trying to Learn Spanish for the most part. cause my mother's side is Ecuadorian which is Spanish Race, so i try to speak Spanish but fail somewhat since i only know so little much of Spanish then common words that are said. I love to learn how to Speak German the most but some say is hard to speak german but i'm up for a challenge.
Believe it or not, I used to teach myself tidbits of Japanese about 6-7 years ago watching subtitled anime. I wrote down things I heard and learned to say them. I still look up varying speeches. I'm of Japanese descent and a bit proud of it (though, because of my casual personality, there's a lot of jokes at my expense). Simple words and phrases to questions and formalities. I don't really use them, but I like the language and I'm fairly reliable in differentiating between the characters of Japanese and Chinese. It was a handy trick for identifying fake trading cards when I'd sell them at school.
Ooo! Latin! I've heard that's one of the tougher languages to learn. Wouldn't mind being able to speak it myself. As for me, well, I've taken German and Russian in High School and College, which was a very long time ago, so I've forgotten most of it. I used to be fairly good with Spanish (used to work restaurants, hard not to learn Spanish there), and I speak a smidgen of Japanese, can't string a sentence together, tho. A few words in Polish, although I made my Polish friends laugh whenever I tried to speak it. Also, Esperanto! Might be interesting to translate Ponies into Esperanto . . . @Testy - So, those Rosetta Stone's aren't very good? Is that what you're saying? I won't waste my money on them, then.
Spanish is perhaps my most hated language. It's too simple to learn and it sounds nasty to my ears which are more accustomed to crazy languages such as German and Russian, and a little Finnish.
Kumusta. Anyways, I'd help in "English" :derpe: Wanting to learn about all the dialects of Tagalog in the Philippines... Also know a bit of Spanish because it's somewhat like Tagalog. Next language to learn..."C+"

OK, this seems like a nice thread. I'm speaking English, German and Serbian (Bosnian, Croatian, Slovenian, you name it), am a... well, French noob (not totally newbie, but still not that great) and currently i am learning Latin. I know a word in Turkish here and there, and know the structure their sentences go, but still, i'd not consider it being a language i kinda know. I plan on learning Arabic, Javanese and maybe Japanese once in the future. So: Fluent: English, German, Serbian. Under Solid: French. Newbie: Latin. Kinda Sorta: Turkish, Arabic. Plans: Arabic, Javanese and Japanese.
Right now all I can speak is English, of course, and some Welsh, which isn't going to get me anywhere really. I can read Cyrillic, but I have no interest in learning any languages that use it, so it's just something of a novelty right now.
