Community Post #109 (and Pet Based Unrelated Rant #2) You do not know irritation with an attempt at affection until you clear up after feathers from your cats' latest ''''''''''present''''''''''. I cannot put enough quotation marks around that word so I will not try. And I just know they're out right now to try and find another one! Oh! I shouldn't be too hard on them. They usually offer their hunts to you, with a meow supposedly saying "Looook! Loooook! I got you a this!". It does fit the whole 'present' thing, sure. It's just that old explanation of the behaviour: that they believe that you are peculiar as far as a cat can fathom as you don't hunt. Granted, the little blighter doesn't hunt for food much either but whatever. But, because you go to this weird, sunny cold box for every piece of food they ever see you eat, they wonder how you haven't keeled over and died yet. So they feed you, like your a big kitten. Or are they looking for praise from the big, weird cat that feeds and strokes them? Going 'Looooook! I helped feed us for a week with this amazing haul." Except that they don't really hunt anymore do they? No, these mice and birds are actually just stuff setting off their pounce instincts. My two cats don't eat their catches, they play and bat at them. It's like bringing home someone's kids as playmates and only wanting to play 'Real Life Mortal Kombat' with the kitchen utensils. Cat's seem to be like that. Doesn't matter what it is, they'll try and swat at it. They don't appear able to help it. But it isn't the most unusual thing I've ever seen a cat hunt. A friend of mine has plenty of cats as well. One of the more elderly and adorable was a cat that would have this strange little idea in her little fluffy head every so often. There would be a muffled meowing from atop the stairs for a few minutes and a delicate lolloping down the stairs before this kitty trotted into view with her spoils clenched between her jaws, mewing joyously. What she had done was this: "It put up and incredible fight! You should have seen it! But I won and know I gives it to you because that's just how much I care. You may love me now." The cat took socks from their draws and carried them down to show us. I'm pretty certain it wasn't limited to footware either. I recall this tiny little moggy managing to bring down a bra before. But what exactly can you say to these little beasts and their '''''''gifts'''''''? Other than the tirade of swear words that usually accompanies another new delivery of mice. And, I know this will sound horrible but, I wish they'd put the petrified little creature out of it's misery before they returned with it! I cannot tell what this says about my cats! Are they saying "Look! I've caught this mouse without killing it! Now we can have fun chasing it together! Aren't I awesome for sharing this with you? I knew you'd love it!" Or are they saying "Look, doofus! I've done half the work here. All you have to do is catch it and it's yours. Easy pray, my friend. I do it because I love you. You may love me back now." The number of animals I've had to chase out of my home...Can someone explain this? Are my cats amazing for catching live animals or amazingly lazy? Anyway, rant over...On with this week in stuff and things... - Site News Firstly, let's get this in because Dragon will withhold my daily Iron Brew if I don't. It's been a little mad, huh? Firstly, Fulcrum is no longer a member of the site after a personal attack. We all wish him well with any of his future endeavors. We've had a couple of admins come on-board as well; Vulpine Script and Dragonbait. We've also got something of a speciality to ensure we're not going nuts and that we can be as effective as possible in each area of the site. So, now you know who to bother for what! Tyro the Fox - Technical Administration Vulpine Script - Social and Inter-Site Administration Eight Star - Staff and Chat Administration Dragonbait - Radio Administration Always handy to know. Also welcome the new global moderators, Dynasty Charge and exactly NotWhatWeExpected! Ha! Name puns! Well...at least I tryo... Finally, for the reasons of technical support and general code schenanigans, we welcome Minterwute onto the team! Please welcome the additions with hugs. Preferably when they're least expecting it. It's the most fun to be randomly cuddled while eating cereal. - Recommended Reading Those pre-uni blues are starting to get to Dilly Star. Now those, I understand. It's nice to have the constant sense of steady goals to achieve that comes with education. Especially learning things you actually want to learn. I don't think I've stopped working on something since January with the laundry list of projects I work on. Dilly has cards. Which are just as good. And now! Something to point and laugh at then almost certainly never see. Warning: It's marked by Michael Bay. If you'd like something to wash your mind and eyes out with, how about Pillowfluff's latest artwork? What is it of? I'm not really sure but it's very pretty all the same. See, I am fair. I show you horror and repay that with nice stuff. Speaking of something that creates the fox equivalent of that thing pegasi do when they see something awesome...Feather benders, I think they're called...How about this rumour of a Deadpool movie? The video Crimson has for us has been taken down but I'm sure it can be found somewhere if you look hard enough. I mean, I've seen it too and it does look very enjoyable. Either way, some Marvel fans (for just comics, for just the movies and everything in between) are probably watching Fox with a bated breath. So many things too look forward too. This, Buck Con, Equestria Girls: Rainbow Power, new season of Gravity Falls. What? Got to do something till Season 5, right? Scarecrow has decided to regale us with his opinions of the food in Portland. Apparently, it seems like a good place to eat. Here's hoping we hear a little more about his culinary adventures. ...I command thee to hugglesnuggle this one lots and lots. It is thy bidding. It shall be done. Finally, if your wondering what happened to those really cool bug blog posts from Simon, then you'll need to read this to get the update. So, now I need to go and...deal with my new '''''presents''''' before they get into the food and eat everything, doubling their numbers and raging war across the living room until they rule with an iron paw. Or...eat all my bread. Either's possible. See you next week.
And this means what exactly? That question leads me to say: I have no idea why we need 4 admins all of a sudden. Foxy used to take care of staff administration (assuming that's what that role means) and why does the chat need a specific administrator at all? One more thing about this is that most users, especially the ones that join after today, will just be contacting an admin if they have a problem. They won't know or care what his role is on site. I'd also like to point out that i know of several people who don't approve of the choices you've made concerning administration. There are some who don't agree seeing Foxy as an admin. (though i must have missed something because i don't get why.) Others have a problem with Dragonbait. (and that one i do understand.) as for moderators: I have absolutely no problem with Minterwute, don't get me wrong. But with Tyro AND Mike on staff, might i ask why you need a third? Just saying. This all seems like alot of complicated unnecessary overcompensating for the simple fact of replacing one admin. Quite frankly, it explains nothing. It says what changed, not why it changed. also this:
I'm still on holiday in Germany so I won't be making any kind of post until I get home and settled (likely Tuesday), but if Rarit is the consensus opinion then I'll be happy to do so.
I'd like to remind you that these are often written late at night when I do them. I might miss a few bits here and there but I'll play. The issue with a site like this is that we have a site that runs more or less 24/7. We don't just close this all down so having a couple of extra admins ensures we have effective leadership throughout the day as we have to think about timezones when we ask people to do this. This way, we get Me and Foxy, then Eight and Dragonbait when we head to bed. The other thing is ensuring each aspect of the site has enough leadership to ensure it runs effectively and smoothly. Vulpine Script I've always known to have somewhat of a 'gift for the gab', hence being a natural choice for disputes between staff or users or both! Plus, a healthy dose of experience with this site in general is pretty useful. Furthermore, representing Everypony here in the UK at events and conventions becomes far easier with some help that ol Foxy can provide...As long as we have the scratch to go, of course... Dragonbait has been put with the radio for a reason. The guy has been pretty dedicated towards keeping it updated and having someone with that innate knowledge of the radio is important. We want to try and put a few more things on there to bolster it's appeal as we're trying to figure out the radio's future. Dragon can not only help with that but a pair of eyes on scheduling and managing contributors (of which anypony can join in and have things going on with the radio, by the by) seems like a prudent idea. Me and Mike are great at running the technical side of the site. We can handle errors, adding pre-made doodads and the like. We're not necessarily the best programmers in the world in things such as PHP or Javascript and there's a couple ideas we'd like to work on. That's where Minterwute comes in. While Mike and me are dealing with ensuring the site is running properly, Minterwute is going to be working on a few ideas with me and Mike helping where possible to add some specialist additions to the site. So, that ought to be lovely.
Oh Tyro, you and your silly Community Posts! http://s.mlpforums.com/uploads/post_images/img-1811999-1-2uttfdj.jpg
As a staff member I can say that it is nice to have an admin to go to at any time when I have a problem I can't handle, rather than having to PM them and wait several hours at best. That's not always optimal for handling some situations, so having more admins will decrease the chances of that happening at a very important time. The same goes for tech people; two is nice, three is nicer. That's just my take on the matter anyways, I don't disagree with having another admin.
No offense, but you guys seem entirely too dependant on the presence of administrators. Aren't people selected as moderators because they can be trusted to make the right decisions on their own? What's the point of being a moderator if you need an admin to hold your hand? I mean, i'd understand the case with new moderators, but all of the current staff should have plenty of experience by now to handle things on their own. Sure i guess, but i remember a time when even just 3 admins caused unnecessary complications and the inability to agree on even the simplest of things.
Problems he can't handle doesn't automatically mean he needs someone to hold his hand for everything...I don't think you realized how conceited that made you sound. Right but with 2 you're stuck at a stalemate. Disagreements will happen, part of being human. They have their designated areas of focus on the site, just let it go. And really, whether or not Foxy or Dragon are admins does not really change a lot with the dynamics for the rest of the staff. We all pitch ideas and discuss them. It's a title and extra buttons to help manage their areas of the site. You put too much mightiness in the red name tag. Sent from my XT1080M using Tapatalk
Does it really matter? If they screw up, it's on them. If they feel that 4 admins is the way to go, go for it. I mean, personally I think it's trivial and redundant to have 4 admins, but what I think doesn't matter, since it's you guys who call the shots. Just do what you think is right. Just don't blame anyone but yourselves if you make a mistake, is all. Also, again... this is a poor place to discuss matters such as this.
