I think it was something about Flash Sentry not being a crystal pony or something I can't really remember. Anyway there probably just not good enough is my point.
well i still think there should be earth pony guards, but i also think Luna should have more guards too
Wat. What does being a crystal pony have to do with having a longer lifespan? Lol I was just joking anyways. Ok
'What does being a crystal pony have to do with having a longer lifespan?' It doesn't matter I was basically thinking aloud:derpe:. Anyway, doesn't Luna already have enough guards? I mean the Palace guards are tasked with keeping her and sun butt safe so why should she get more?
technically she only has two. and we've seen how the guards are at keeping them safe. seriously they've been kidnapped alot
Yeah, the guards are not exactly a shining example of competence. I wish I could say that this is just because they are out of practice because Equestria is so peaceful, but looking at the series, I doubt that's the case. Honestly, it's almost as if the guards are there just for show. And then, it would make sense that the more pragmatic earth ponies see no reason to join them. "Being a guard? Nah, let's leave that to the overly dramatic unicorns and the pegasi show-offs. We'll just go and do useful stuff."
To be fair the guards are up against some pretty powerful baddies Plus I think the ones I think you're talking about LunasBiggesFan are just for show and to tie in with a theme. The guards are responsible for keeping all the princesses safe; whether they be Luna, Tia, Cadence or Twilight. There's no point assigning Luna more anyway because she and her Tia are pretty much always together.
well how many times since Twili became a princess have you seen her with her OWN set of guards? The answer, none. it seems Twilight's friends are like her guards considering they are almost always with her
I think things here are being thought. My understanding of the purpose of the guards is that of a blatant symbol of character important, easily interpreted by any audience. After all, guards entail that there is something or someone to guard. Essentially, they're just a visual cue that one or more princesses will be involved in the events that the given episode centers around, even if indirectly. The reason that Twilight doesn't have guards derives for the aforementioned point: If the royal guard were to be involved, it would serve as a cue that one of the princesses (sans Twilight) would become involved. Otherwise, you might end up with a confusing mixed message, which would be generally unfavourable for the younger of the show. Why sans Twilight? She's not really seen as a princess within the bounds of the show; not really anyway. I mean, sure, the show foes acknowledge, and make frequent reference to it, but she didn't actually inherit any of the significance that is associated with the other princesses after her transformation. Part of the reason for it was to not upset the established balance of character significance. In effect, Twilight is an 'honourary' princess. She doesn't really have any royal duties, she doesn't really have any subjects, and she doesn't really have the air of royalty about her. Sent from my SGH-T899M using Tapatalk
I'd say that Twilight is a modest pony and the thought that she could have some guards of her own probably didn't even occur to her. It's not as if she needed them, anyway. This may change once she grows more into her princess role but I don't think that she's in a big hurry to get some anytime soon.
I agree, after all she has her friends and she just got her castle. plus she usually tells ponies not to call princess so i guess your right.
Well I think its basically about the way the guards are to be received to the target audience e.g. small girls. The reason they are made incompetent is that they don't wish for a military force to be received as a good thing for a young girl, this is why they are only really used for comedic purposes. You could also look back at the wedding as they lost there leader so had no idea what to do under the attack from a changeling army even the main 6 couldn't take on. the incompetency of the military forces can also be found else where in Equestria just look at the wonder bolts. My favorite group and they are only really used for comic relief such as the episode where they take on spike when he turns into a adult dragon. This is even though it was explained that the wonder bolts have been formed after Luna was banished to the moon to act as a defence force just in case princess Celestia couldn't use the elements of harmony to defend Equestria there for putting the wonder bolts on par with the elements of harmony. what do you think?
