What I mean is if Derpy decided to fix her eyes, would you still be a fan of hers? I would. I think those who only like Derpy because of her cross eyes are shallow. And we dont know how she feels about them. Maybe they give her lots of pain and the only reason she hasnt fixed them is because she cant afford to and doesnt want to burden others by asking for help.

If the animators decided to fix Derpy's eyes in a future episode, I would be kind of disappointed.

Considering that her "derpy" eyes are what made her so popular, it'd be a slap in the face to the fans if they were to be fixed.

It would also send the message that imperfections are not okay, which goes against the theme of the show.

No i mean an episode where Derpy gets her eyes fixed because she wants them fixed. Saying its wrong for her to do that is like telling a person without legs that its wrong for them to get legs.

They won't ever make an episode like that, because Derpy is a fan-favorite just as she is, and "fixing" her eyes would do nothing to advance a story.

It would also piss a lot of fans off.

It just seems like people only like her because of her eyes. I hope i can get other opinions on this.

    ^This.
Unless there was some cohesion on why and how it relates with the show's theme or season storyline, I doubt they'd just throw in a random BG character to get her eyes fixed.

Also, I was never a fan her to begin so, wouldn't bother me.

that wasnt really my point. I KNOW it wont happen, but if it did, would you still like her (this is for people who are fans of her). Im not saying it should happen, im saying what if it did, would you still be a fan, or are you just a fan because of her eyes.

Sure I'd still like her... I'm one of the fans who like her for her colour scheme, I think her cutie mark is cute too, and the whole clumsy personality of hers is so endearing :) but I can understand why fans would be upset... With Derpy, her eyes are part of what makes her unique and if she was changed, it would be like changing a crucial part of another character... For example if Twilight decided she didn't want to read books, or if fluttershy threw out all her animals... Or if Rarity didn't care about her appearance or if applejack started to be extremely narcissistic... All these character traits are part of what makes the characters unique and special... What makes fans like them...

I don't really see that happening but as long as she's still cute and has her unique color scheme then I see no reason to stop being a Derpy fan.

Thats my problem, people tend to just focus on her eyes, as if thats all thats to her. You should never like someone just because of their disability. Thats patronizing. Derpy fixing her eyes wouldnt change who she is. She would still be the adorable, clumsy mare who loves muffins. Her eyes arent a part of her personality, its not like Twilights love of books or Rarity's love of fashion, its just a side effect. We dont like people BECAUSE they are disabled but rather how they overcome that disability.

It's still one of the things that make her unique. Changing her eyes would be the same as changing flyttershys shyness. Also aren't you saying that there is somethin wrong with her eyes, just because they don't look like normal?

Why do you have such a problem with Derpy's eyes?
It seems like you want them to change her.

No, her eyes are fine, but only if Derpy says their fine. If Derpy doesnt like them, we should support her if she decides to fix them. We dont know how frustrating it is for her. Derpy's eyes DONT define her, same as being black or white or whatever doesnt define a person.

Im mad because people keep on acting like Derpy wouldnt be Derpy anymore. I would like her whether she had the eyes or not, they DONT define her.

Also how the heck are personality traits in any way related to physical traits? They arent, so dont say Derpy deciding to fix her eyes is the same as Fluttershy suddenly becoming confident. Derpy would still have the same personality and nature, while Fluttershy would change a bit.

I just received a call from Derpy.

Her eyes are fine, and she doesn't want them fixed.

Don't ask me how I got a call from a fictional character. You wouldn't understand the interdimensional physics of mundane/abstract energy transference.

So, yeah. Everything is fine, and we can drop this ridiculous subject.

Thats good, but that wasnt my point. My point is people acting like she wouldnt be the same without said eyes. Why are people having such a difficulty understand that its WRONG WRONG WRONG to define someone by their physical traits or disability. I have aspergers and i dont find it wrong, but i dont want to be called "that aspergers kid" or "thats kid with the aspergers" thats why i find things such as "the wall eyed mare" well meaning btu rather insulting.

Is this what this is about? Are you comparing the fact that a cartoon character is cross eyed and that you have aspergers, because that isn't even slightly close.

Derpy is a cartoon character, and you're projecting your own insecurities onto her.

    So... stop doing that.

(facehoof) no, it was just a general thing that you shouldnt define someone by their disability or physical traits. Why are people not understanding me? ....whatever, point is if you stop being her fan if she decides to make her eyes straight, you arent a true fan of hers.

I like Derpy because of her personality, her carefree nature, and how good a mother she is to Dinky. I dont like her because of her implied disability but rather how she overcomes it to be a hardworking and caring mother.

That depends on the reasons. If she would make her eyes straight then I would stop being a fan of her since that is telling small girls that "everything will be better if you fix your flaws".

Just because you find something insulting, doesn't mean that Derpy would find it insulting. I have a small speech disorder. And I wouldn't be the same person if I didn't have it. Our physical traits and disabilities forms who we are and we wouldn't be the persons that we are today if we didn't have those.
