BTW did you know that some fanfics have Derpy's eyes a result of domestic abuse? If thats the case, and she decides to remove that traumatising scar, who are we to tell her its wrong? Im saying that no matter what Derpy chooses, i will respect her choice. This is what this thread is about, respecting a person's choice.
Oh no, i had no idea. If a fanfic said it then it must be true (sarcasm). That is not the case, it is a show for little girls. They will never show any kind of abuse ever.
I'm so sorry but my inner grammar nazi has awoken, here are some grammar errors in that text. thats should be spelled like that's.Its should be it's. Im should be I'm and i should be I BTW did you know that fanfics aren't canon and will most likely never be. So don't use that argument.
Yes, but still, my point stands: I will remain her fan regardless of her choices. Why is that so hard for people to understand and support?
Perhaps, but still you have to admit saying you would stop being a Derpy fan for something as trivial as her changing her eyes is rather insulting. I mean, if a friend with a similar condition did it in real life would you stop being their friend? The question is simple: do you like Derpy, or do you like her eyes only. My main problem is people acting like her eyes are the center of her character, that if anything changed about them, she wouldn't be the same. I also like to point out that I was AGAINST Hasbro changing her eyes in The Last Roundup. I hope I can get some new opinions, instead of the same old ones.
I said that I would stop being a fan of Derpy if she changed her eyes because the fact that would send a wrong message to kids, how is that insulting anyone?
Oh,you were against Hasbro changing her eyes, who would have guessed that? I admit that if she changed what made her special in the first place, then I wouldn't be her fan anymore. If a friend in real life fixed his/her eyes, then I would understand them. If I would know if he/she had a problem whit his/her eyes then I would support them but I don't know how Derpy feels about her eyes and niether do you. You are basically saying that she must be depressed and sad because she don't have normal eyes.
It's not the fact that her eyes are the way they are that a lot of people like her... They like her because she is different... Her difference is what draws people to her... Is it so wrong to like someone because they are different from us? It's a far healthier attitude to like people different to us than to shun them... You should be happy people do like Derpy because she's different... And besides... Who says its a disability? At the end of the day it started out as an animation error... She's not actually a person... She's an animated character and I would still like her no matter what! And what I said about personality traits... Sure her eyes aren't her personality but at the same time they are what makes her special! People like her just the way she is and she shouldn't have to change... Isn't that what friendship is about? Accepting people just the way they are?
No, I am pretty sure she isn't depressed. But if she was, and she decided to change them, i would still be her fan. That's my point. But anyway, it was just a what if scenario. - - Auto Merge - - I do like Derpy for who she is, I just dont like it when people act like her eyes make her who she is. I like Derpy because of her personality. if Derpy was the same person but instead, idk, a blue unicorn without the cross eyes, i would still like her because of who she is, not because of her eyes. TL/DR, I will accept Derpy no matter what she decides. Derpy/ Ditsy fan forever.
I'm going to ruin your day now. Derpy's only personality is that she is clumsy. That's the only canon personality she has,so her eyes is pretty much 50% of her personality. All of the other stuff is just headcanons.
Well, you failed to ruin my day. I hope Hasbro actually gives some of the background popular ponies some character development.....but at the same time, I hope they don't so we can continue having different theories.
Okay... how shall I put this... DERPY IS NOT REAL. Any "decision" to fix her eyes would be made by the writers and animators, not Derpy herself. Even if it's written that she made the decision herself, it would still be the writer that made that decision. Considering that fans love Derpy just as she is, it would be a huge slap in the face of the fandom if she was suddenly changed. Remember how many people were pissed about Twilight getting wings? That was an event that marked major growth in the show's main character, and opened up new narrative possibilities, and people were still furious. Now, imagine Derpy getting her eyes changed. She's a background character, with no real significance to the main plot of the show. She's also loved just the way she is. Changing her would serve no purpose whatsoever, and would piss a lot of people off. It would also send the message that imperfections are not okay and should be fixed. Is that really a message you want to see?
Well, think of it this way... if "Derpy" were originally without those eyes, she wouldn't have earned that name by fans, or attention. Also, using the example from Twilight we can say that while fans would be upset at Hasbro, they would still like the character if it were to happen. However, Ditzy Doo, as originally named, is a particularly happy pony either way, and as you said, it isn't something that'll happen... but I think those who like her would either embrace the change or, as with Twilight, continue writing as if it never happened.
Like me! I just pretend Twilight isn't an Alicorn, and everything is okay! Yes! No it isn't! Yes! You are in denial! NO! It is fine! Yes! No! Yes.
I know it wont happen and i don't want it to happen without reason. Its just a "what if". I'm not talking about some arbitrary change like TLRU, but rather a more emotional one, liken her admitting that while she doesn't necessarily hate her eyes, she fears eventually she might mess up big and put other people in danger, or worse, her daughter. At first in the episode Mane 6 are telling bullies that there's nothing wrong with Derpy's eyes (there isn't) but afterwords Derpy talks with Twilight separately and admits that her eyes make things difficult for her, but she hasn't been able to get them fixed because of money problems. The Mane 6 chip in to help her, her eyes get fixed, and after the operation she wakes up and is so happy she can see the world so clearly, and more importantly, her daughter. She was never sad, but now she is even more happy. The world is so beautiful. How can you POSSIBLY say that episode would send a message of "differences aren't good".
