The setting is Ponyville, in the distant future. Equestria has become a bustling, industrious, modern land ruled by democracy with technology not unlike our own. The Earth ponies still grow crops, but with the help of more advanced farm equipment. The Pegasi keep the bad weather out of populated areas as best they can, using their weather prediction technology. And in the city of Ponyville, every pony has access to modern gadgets such as the Cell Phone, Vacuum Cleaner, Refrigerator, or Coffee Maker. If you were to ask most ponies about magic, they would laugh and say it's fun to imagine such a thing, but it is simply the result of the overactive imaginations of their ancestors. Unicorns, they would say, never existed.

However, this is not exactly true. In times past and forgotten, a cruel ruler arose from the strife caused by Celestia and Luna's sudden disappearance. She had extraordinary skills in manipulating the public to do what she needed to have done...or wanted to have done, and it did not help that Celestia's rule had left the Equestrians weak-willed and unable to resist an authority . She was in absolute control of the land...and she hated Unicorns with a passion. She believed that Pegasi and Earth Ponies had been subjugated too long under the hooves of the Unicorns...and so organized a mass killing, a genocide of unicorns and all who had more than 25% unicorn blood, with the help of the very ponies who had once been peaceful and passive under Celestia. She burned as many records as she could find regarding unicorns or magic at all, and denounced any others she might have missed as mere fiction. She tore down the Everfree Forest and replaced it with normal trees, a feat that was seen as nigh impossible, and was indeed a task that took decades. Of course, the ponies who lived during that time knew otherwise...but after four or five generations, the new ponies who had never seen or spoken to a unicorn started to doubt that they had ever existed, that perhaps they were only myth, as they were left only with the occasional old text that spoke of them and stories from their great-grandparents.

But this harsh rule did not eradicate unicorns, because of course, some managed to hide away, and others managed to escape the borders of Equestria for the time being, along with non-unicorns who had unicorn blood. They did not have to be as careful once the leadership passed on to the next ruler a few times, but as they soon found out, the public had forgotten them, and did not wish to remember. When a unicorn was spotted, the pony who claimed to have seen them was dismissed as hallucinating, or even admitted to a clinic. Anything magical was ignored, explained away, or hidden, as pony-kind became afraid to acknowledge that things existed that they could not explain using science and empirical data. Those few that did believe in magic kept it to themselves, and the unicorns kept to themselves, wearing clothing that could cover their horns and being fairly reclusive. They formed a society amongst themselves, where laws have been made to govern magic's use and contact with magical beings.

But some unicorns have discovered that they hardly need to be subtle. Use magic in public? It will be labeled a group hallucination. Blow up a building with a spell? It was a gas leak! Summon the King in Yellow into the middle of Ponyville proper? Well...they'll think of some way to explain it, and send anyone who disagrees to the loony bin. And here starts the story of our characters.

Silver Shield, a unicorn who works as a 'private investigator', advertises himself as such: "Silver Shield - Wizard. Lost items found. Paranormal Investigations. Consulting. Advice. Reasonable rates. No love potions, endless purses, parties or other entertainment." Of course he recieves his daily dose of prank calls, along with ponies who apparently didn't notice that he does not work in the entertainment business. But he gets enough work to pay the rent and feed himself, usually. And his business card hardly delves into his past exploits, almost all of which would probably deter anypony curious enough to try calling him.

That's generally the idea. There is a lot more to this universe, and a cookie to anybody who figures out what I based this universe off of. Now, to those who are interested:

-I only want 2 or 3 people in this role play, any more and it tends to get out of control in my opinion.

-I will not be playing, per se, I will be the DM/GM, in control of the environment and responsible for NPCs and explaining what is happening. Silver is my character, but he will technically be an NPC in this.

-If you god-mod, I will put an end to it immediately, please don't let this happen. Don't metagame, just be realistic. Your character can be magical, but make sure they are not too powerful. Be clever in how you solve problems, don't just "I use magic and it's fixed" or "I use magic and they are dead". That's not fun at all.

-If you want to make posts that look like this:
Please do not apply to this RP, because I want to see good descriptions of actions, interactivity with the environment and other characters, and well thought-out posts. I'm not going to be a nazi about it, but please try to keep things animated instead of contributing lifeless one-sentence posts like the above one.

Now as for me being GM, again, I'm not going to be a nazi about it. Role playing is most fun when you have freedom to do what you want, but in this universe there are serious consequences that come with power (more power means more big nasties are attracted to you), and your magic will exhaust you more quickly by using Evocation (instant, flashy and usually destructive) instead of Thaumaturgy (more time-consuming, like a ritual or chant, but more energy-efficient). Yes, there is definitely a distinction! So if your character is a powerful sorcerer who throws around magic willy-nilly, you're gonna have a bad time. Just saying. There are also distinct advantages to being a non-magical pony; for example, plenty of magical laws do not apply to you (if you kill a pony with magic, you're in big doo-doo; if you kill a pony by conventional means, well, you're still in big doo-doo, but the regular cops are a lot less scary than the wizard cops, known as Wardens.)

Anyways that's a lot of explaining, if people display more interest I'll explain more!

AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE!

Wow... This sounds amazing. I would love to join, so, my question is... Are changelings allowed? If not, I'll probably still join anyway...

    Sure, changelings are allowed :3

They actually have their own organization! Not exactly a friendly organization, but not exactly the most evil one either.

Actually, i'd love to be in this rp. The fact that unicorns have that much 'power' within the new community just indicates how much you can mess around with the environment.

Just the fact that they can do whatever without repercussions is a great idea within itself!

That's not exactly true lol. In fact, it's almost the opposite. A unicorn can be incredibly powerful, but that means he either got his power from somewhere for a price (never just money, either), or if it's innate power, he's going to have all the big baddies after him trying to get him to be their servant, along with the fact that magical power does not scale with magical stamina, so performing a huge spell will take as much out of one unicorn as it would another. A unicorn with less power, on the other hand, will have the obvious difficulty of having less power, but also won't have to deal with big baddies directly at all, probably only with their followers, and has less problems running out of magical juice. (And when I say big baddies, I mean Cthulu-esque big baddies. Not just regular villains.)

And that said, no matter what power level your character is at, there will be consequences for things you do. For example, the White Council, the council of unicorns that are the self-proclaimed regulators and defenders of the practice of magic, have seven laws that restrict the use of magic. Might as well list them here, since they are common knowledge to all but the noobiest of unicorns:

    1. You shall not kill another pony with magic.
    2. You shall not shape-change another pony with magic.
    3. You shall not alter the mind of another pony with magic.
    4. You shall not enthrall or enslave another being, pony or otherwise, with magic.
    5. You shall not practice Necromantic magic.
    6. You shall not practice Chronomantic magic.
    7. You shall not research or attempt contact with beings of the Outside.

Yeah, you're free to break any of these rules. It's a free-world RP. But you're going to end up with the magic cops on your tail, and trust me, that's not fun. They are nothing to sneeze at. And they don't stop to ask questions. If it looks like you broke a law, or you are toe-ing the line of a law, you will be lucky if they hesitate to chop-chop your neck.

And finally there's the Ponyville PD. They are a threat because none of the unicorns or other magical beings want the rest of the world to re-discover magic, as that would spell disaster for all of them. So while they don't pose a huge direct threat, and they will dismiss quite a few things with ridiculous 'logical' explanations, there are individuals who are not so stupid, who realize that magic exists, and if you are careless this may result in the public starting to realize you're not a fairy tale. You can imagine how that will go. :p

So basically the game is gonna be balanced no matter what level of power your character has. In this RP you should remember...there are always bigger fish in the sea, and most of them are immortal and don't forget being crossed all that quickly.

You could be a werewolf, so you could transform between pony and wolf :3

Otherwise I don't think you'd want to be a loup-garou, they differ from werewolves in the fact that werewolves transform at will and retain their mental state in pony or wolf form. Loup-garous transform during the full moon and lose control of their body until sunrise or the moon sets, going on a huge rampage killing everything in it's path.

^Random fact that you probably don't care about and is completely headcanon

    So I'd recommend werewolf xD

Okay, so, trying to keep this goin.

Two is enough, do you two have any questions about the universe you're in, or any other 'rules'?

There are a lot of things in this universe that are different from canon universe, so if you would like, you can role play as a time traveller (on purpose or on accident is up to you, but you must be from the past and your way back must be prevented for some reason that is also up to you)

And remember, your character knows nothing about this world if they time traveled. That makes it easier for you to role play realistically, since you don't know very much about it either :p

If you want something besides time travelling, like dimensional rifts, then again it's fine, but same rules as time travel, and you can't bring anything with you besides basic things (clothes, food, maybe some sort of equipment).
