Fluttershy, the cutest pony ever. It's impossible I know, but let's try to capture as much of her cuteness in this topic as we can! She is my personal favorite pony, she's so cute and caring and so full of love for EVERYTHING! Adding Fluttershy to anything makes it at least 20% cuter. So let us gather together and bask in her cuteness!
Are we having a war now? On a calmer note, Fluttershy is cute and somewhat pretty, but not as pretty as Rarity.
She starts off REALLY cute but I think she gets just a little scary at times... Is it really Pinkie Pie we should be worried about going on a rampage? I'm not so sure...
When watching the Gala episode, is it wrong that I thought Fluttershy's scary personality actually didn't seem that out of place for her?
Fluttershy's not the kind to really accept when animals dislike her, yet she's (apparently) willingly acceptable towards other ponies' dislike: she trusted her touch with animals so much that it deluded her to pieces (yet it shows she's immature and not fully developed, like the other ponies), hence why she got so terrifyingly angry (but hey, all of them got!*). But she'd either cry her heart out and become hateful or get that angry if she's despised by somepony she loves, too. I was completely disturbed at first, but now I think I like her even more because of that. She stopped being merely some shy cute pony, yet I still think she's a kind-hearted girl. The same way Rarity is not always a caring lady and Dash's not always an awesome and confident pony. *Nope, the only one in the gala episode who didn't lose her mind was Twilight Sparkle. Because she actually was the only one who got what she wanted (being close to her mentor, even if it meant cumplimenting random snobbish noble ponies). And Celly talked to her in the very end, so to her it wasn't the wrost night ever... xP EDIT: Before I forget, just found this on Equestria Daily: Spoiler: LOL
It kind of bothered me to see Fluttershy's other half breaking out more in the second half of the season. I didn't mind it coming out when her friends were in danger, because it showed that she could stand up for them when needed, but some of the other outbursts seemed out of character to me. In general though, I think she is a truly kindhearted pony that likes making others happy, and is respectful of other ponies opinions.
Fluttershy is pony of the mane cast that I identified with the least at first, because I'm an outgoing person, but later came to realize I identified with the most. She's an outcast of her lineage as she's not much of what she was "born for" (that is to say, a pegasus), her confidence suffers for it, she's maternal, she sees the best in others, and she believes in being as kind as possible because she really does need to be loved. Somepony: "You're the extroverted version of her, right?" Me: "Maybe so. Would make sense that the extroverted version is all about childcare while the introverted version is all about animal care." Best Friend: "An extroverted version of Fluttershy would be like a maternal slightly-less-hyper Pinkie Pie." Me: "Isn't that what I am already?" Best Friend: "Touche." As for the other side of her personality, I don't relate to it - I just get sad and scared instead of angry - but I would just like more of an explanation for it because it has potential to make sense with her character. My problem with it is that it might just be "for the lulz", which isn't character expansion.
I saw some foreshadowing back in Episode 14: Suited for Success of Fluttershy's 'other' personality... When she referred to the dress that Rarity was making for her as prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear or off-the-rack), that to me is really insulting... Haute couture means 'custom made clothing' which the dresses obviously were. She was kind of saying, "You may have made this by hand, but I think it's quality is only good enough for the common shopping mall. (If that's okay with you...)" Anyways, I just went wow. It was kinda harsh...
I wanted to find a reason of why I didn't bear with her angry. While I got used to it and even liked it, now you just said it, it's 4 teh lulz. Yet the writers could make such outbursts something interesting in the future. EDIT: I bet this was the reason of why my friend hated her so much... But this was to show how much they were selfish towards Rarity's generosity. Or peeps are blind to the others?
Yes, the Psychoshy scene goes so far over the top that it's barely—if at all—possible to explain, at least with the previous 25 episodes (minus those few without her) for reference. When I saw The Best Night Ever for the first time, Fluttershy appeared to be portrayed way out of character. Yes, she can get quite stern and grow a firmer voice if necessary, and it works (Dragonshy), and she's got the Stare (Stare Master). And yes, if you excite her enough, she can actually start cheering (Sonic Rainboom). But an all-out rage? To me, Fluttershy never appeared as one of the trademark quiet ones one is told to beware so often. She's quiet, but she's quiet because she's shy while at the same time kind and nice to animals. In her situation in The Best Night Ever, I myself would have expected her to lie down and sulk and cry somewhere outside, although this would have been difficult to resolve within that episode even if that sobbing pony had contined to chase the animals away (mind you this isn't a Disney show). On the other hoof, her friendship with all animals big and small, especially small (except the malevolent ones), and her talent at dealing with them is her special talent and earned her her cutie mark. As we all know, ponies pretty much dedicate their lives to their respective special talents. And we also know what happens when you deprive a pony of just this, to what they dedicate their lives to. Best example prior to Fluttershy The Best Night Ever was Pinkie Pie in Party of One or rather what became of her.
Nice theory Pulse Wave, I guess they just chose what was easy to work with. Kids of 5/6 years (who the program is typically aimed at) probably wouldn't understand the upset and trauma in a sulky fluttershy and they most certainly wouldn't find it interesting. So in a way yes I think it was a bit 'for the lulz' done for the sake of ease rather than continued character development.
Wow! Now this was an interesting theory. It also might explain why we didn't see Luna in the other episodes: depriving from her main duty probably weakened her or something. And, sadly, as expected, her raging was 4 teh LuLz. And as Grey said, it was easier to work: a sobbing Fluttershy would pretty much ruin the night but not really ruin it. She'd get angered by frustration either way, though. Also, a point: have you noticed that everypony in mane cast literally got everything ruined in the Gala related episodes? I mean, the more they forced their interests, the wrost it got (especially in Suited for success). In the end, they wouldn't get the tickets, they wouldn't get a proper gown, and the night was the wrost ever. And things would be much worse if they haven't learned their lessons... Fluttershy at her wrost was enough selfish to forget that kindness is about sharing and not forcing others - especially animals. But hey, as Pulse said, ponies can go weird when deprived of their special talents!
I will admit, when I first saw Fluttershy go her 'roid rage' in BNE, I was, at first, legitimately freaked out by her! Just like after Pinkie's freakout in Po1! Don't worry, I'm over that now, and realized how silly it is to be genuinely scared of two child-friendly cartoon ponies, and can actually find both of those situations funny! After that display, Fluttershy was my top favorite pony for a bit, but now, sadly, she's moved down to the 4th spot. (I don't have a favorites list for these ponies, really. It' s just who I like more at any given time) I'm also one of those people that think her freakout was a bit out of character. I know it was just done for comedic effect, but still. I would've expected to be the type to just run away somewhere and just cry for hours on end.
Fluttershy is probably my favorite character from "MLP: Friendship is Magic". There are many reasons. She's sweet (in positive meaning), cute and beautiful. And she's as shy as me (maybe a little less than me). And she is really careful, dutiful, helpfu loves to help animals and other ponies. etc., etc., etc. ... And she's also modest - especially in "Green isn't your color"!
Fluttershy is by far the best pony ever. *yay* I agree that I like her outbursts few and far between, though.
Fluttershy was the character in the show I most closely identified with at first. She's meant for those shy ponies to identify with, and that's me. Someone who is very soft-spoken and a real lover at heart. She'd sooner let her own feelings be hurt than hurt any other pony's feelings. But it's an old ideal that the shy quiet ones often have a kinda scary almost maniac personality hidden deep inside. Which we've seen bubble to the surface in the show on rare occasion with her. She's a total shy sweetheart. But she's got that strong and assertive attitude too when she needs it or is pushed far enough.
Okay.. Even a die hard Fluttershy fan (Me) can say Rarity is prettier. BUT, Fluttershy is the cutest out of all of them, she is also the kindest. The instant I saw her I knew she was going to be the best pony because I love people (Or in this case, ponies) that are shy and extremely kind.. aaaandd they kinda have a crazy side. What I'm trying to say is, Fluttershy is infinitely better than anypony ever in history. On an other note, Twilight Sparkle is my least favourite out of the main six.
I've got to agree with you in all aspects except for the best pony part, and the Fraeulein Sparkle bit. No one disses the Sparkster.
