A bad oc is an alicorn(bonus points if it was born as a alicorn),is the son/daughter of a canon character or if it was adopted by one.The oc is also a gamer and a nerd.He/She is also in love whit a canon character. That is a perfect description of a bad oc. (sorry for bad English)
Are you specifically prejudiced against me? - - Auto Merge - - A bad OC does not have to be an alicorn, but if said OC can dispatch any problem without any sort of hassle, and is loved by all, that's when we dive into the gutter.
Well, your character DOES go against the grain a little. He's got a LOT of the qualities that a LOT of people don't seem to like. Personally, I don't care either way but you have to take that kind of criticism with a grain of salt because... dare I say... HATERS GONNA HATE.
No.I haven't even seen your oc. But if it is anything like what I wrote then it is a bad oc,sorry but that's just my opinions. Also a bad oc doesn't have to be an alicorn, however an alicorn is almost always a bad oc.
There are probably good Alicorn OCs out there. they probably just don't get as much attention because of the negative stigma surrounding alicorn OCs. Oh and regarding Levi's OC Levi; As mary sue as he is, it's okay by me because Levi is more along the lines of a ponysona
You know, I think alicorn ocs are just a unicorn and a pegasus combined. Also, I find it interesting that Heimdall said that he likes almost all alicorn ocs. I think he means what kind of style it has and back story it has.
Personally I don't like OCs who have either a massive sob story like they were orphaned and raised by ponies who then died and everyone hates them... It's like "please... You don't get any sympathy from me" i also dont don't like OCs who have everything going for them... So they were born to rich and powerful ponies and they are amazing at flying or magic with no effort whatsoever and they are best friends with all the mane six and they are dating the princess of some foreign land in equestria i quite like OCs to have some sort of link to the canon world, be it living in one of the less common places (like for example las Pegasus) or being a distant relative to a background pony for example... As in my opinion I like to imagine how an OC would fit into the canon world if Hasbro had a contest and picked out an OC to star in an episode... But that's just my personal opinion... i dont like clashes in colour palets... They make my eyes hurt... Alicorns are alright in my book so long as there's a decent reason behind it... If the alicorn is an alicorn because the creator wanted an all powerful, god-like OC then that's a no from me... But if there is a decent reason behind it then I find that ok which brings me on to overpowered OCs... Now I'm not talking about an OC that has many powers... Or one that succeeds at one thing... I'm talking about the kind of OC who just can't lose... They have no weaknesses and just win all the time... I may be a fuss pot but when I see OCs competing I like there to be a little leeway as to who could win... If the all powerful beings are in the race then it just becomes boring last comments... Most OCs have the potential to be good, given some tweaking... No OC is perfect first time round... And as the OC and its story grows, so will the character i guess what I mean is I don't like OCs who are created and then have no development beyond the first idea that pops into someone's head... That's creative laziness
rufus doesn't count he's the star of Rufus' crusade what I meant by that was when someone makes an OC which they plan on using in either an RP or as an alter ego... In Rufus' case he's used as first and foremost a tutorial pony... And second as a character in a spin off series, that counts as development in my book and may I add... He's a fantastic exception to the rule there's always an exception
A pegasus that can't fly is generally a bad oc. The same thing goes for a unicorn that can't use magic. If your oc is a gamer then It's a bad oc. Alicorns are always bad. And ocs that are sons or daughters to a main character are even worse. But the worst kind of oc is blank flanks.
I think this thread is more about characteristics of OCs that are made by people who are bad at role playing. A lot of people have it backwards. An Alicorn OC is not bad because the role player made them an Alicorn. It's just that bad role players tend to make Alicorn OCs. Players who tend to make Alicorn OCs are usually bad. But the Alicorn OC in and of itself doesn't make an OC bad. For example, my unicorn character, Silver Shield, is the right hoof of Celestia, metaphorically. And he has a lot of power, so one who has only seen his description might claim he is a bad OC. But the difference is in how I role play him, how I developed his character (through backstory and a lot of role playing), and in how he acts, in character. As a character he is actually averse to using his power, unless he absolutely must. He will often stand neutrally by until something needs to be done, which could come off as hesitant, wise, arrogant, show-off-y, or anything. Mostly mysterious. I mean, one could accuse me/Silver of being overly dramatic. But I wouldn't say that's a bad thing in a role player - - Auto Merge - - Basically, tldr, it's not the character but how you use them that determines badness.
