So I'm quite a big fan of the MLP: CCG. And it seems to be an extremely strange and complex game as a result. The closest comparison I can make to it (as far as my limited knowledge goes), seems to be Magic the Gathering. Your abilities are limited by your limit of actions but also by how many of a particular element you have on the field. But here, it comes from each of the character cards, not Land cards. So, laying down characters boosts what you can do.

Although, the game is more like Magic the Gathering if you upped the complexity and extent of things you have to keep track of. Character abilities, how many actions you can perform, resources, effect of your opponents cards, the effects of the Problem cards you and your opponent has, how many points your able to make, how many points your opponent is likely to make, possible troublemakers.

So, yeah, complicated but it's also very challenging. The routes towards victory are pretty varied. You can nobble your opponents or maximise your earning potential. I find it very engaging, if a little overly complex.

But, and here's the thrust of this weeks article, there's a new expansion being leaked in dips and drabs. A few interesting cards have emerged that I'd like to show you. So...

Firstly, how about this:

Yes, they introduced the Cutie Mark Crusaders in their Rock Outfits, which is awesome! What I love the most is what it requires you to do. Some card games make you summon rare cards or keep track of some counter.

MLP:CCG makes you sing a song, dance or tell jokes. This is a force of good. This needs to be in more games. I mean, what's more of a 'HA! I'm the Card Master!' than busting a move while you perform an active effect. I do this normally, on top of attempting to laugh like a super villain while I play so singing a quick verse wouldn't be obtrusive.

What? You don't? Missing out, man. Missing out.

Yes, even these guys get cards. Now, various versions of the Mane Six aren't new. They're Mane Character cards, standard characters of various kinds. Heck, six of the most powerful cards in the game are the Element of Harmony cards, which are expensive, rare but hugely powerful. It's like putting down a tank to support your infantry. It's like summoning Superman, putting a leash on him and carting him around to do your bidding.

That would be fun. Speaking of...

I want this card so much. Sure it's a little overpowered but think of it this way: It's really overpowered! Expensive but MAN, Twilight kicks arse!

Anyway, anyway. Enough gushing over cards. Unless you want to? Do you? Well? No, I got a job to do...

Next, I need to say something about Let's Play Thursday: My Computer's Hard Drive died. Now, I was able to replace it but this means my Windows installation went with it. I'm currently running Ubuntu and have lost pretty much everything. While I figure everything out, like whether to go to Windows again or not or even how I can stream from an Ubuntu device. I'll have to figure it out...But for now, the shows off until I can get it sorted. Just watch the Facebook, Twitter or my blog for updates on whether I can figure it out.

So, first up, we have something I hoped to get on the Survival Guide...and then couldn't. In the wake of his latest game being ripped apart, I decide to check out Sonic and Co's latest TV exploit to see if, at least, that's any good. And it's all right...I get kinda heated but...eh, it's a little light on grace (among other things) compared to far, far better shows...But it's pretty funny. For more details, click here!

Next, Frozen Seizure claims to be returning to making stuff. So, how about lending some support? It's always great to see new peeps making things. Heck! I'm sure there's nothing stopping it getting on our prestigious radio if it's good enough. And full of pony, of course.

There's a few Persona fans here, right? Well, guess what! Apparently, there's another one coming? Persona is one of those games I should play, I think. One of those strange experiences that I usually look for in a game. But, I've never seen it on the shelves or, well, anywhere actually. Maybe if I can find one, it'll be good to play.

I'm a little annoyed I missed this one but...Is there anypony in Philladelphia?

And now, here's a little call from opinion from cosplayer Galaxy Katt. Now, I think Cloud Chaser could be an awesome cosplay but I think it would be lovely to see some pictures if that costume is ever made. Only if Katt sama is comfortable with it of course. Or, maybe some cosplayers here could lend a little knowledge or tips for her?

I already popped this up on our Steam page but it's worth baring in mind. If you see weird looking links from your friends for some reason without warning, just like the ones in this link, do not click it. They're Steam account has been hacked and doing so will spread it. I don't know how wide spread this is now, but it's worth baring in mind, just in case. There's no telling how much damage could be done.

Hmm...I'm starting to wonder if I should start putting ol' Rockout on our advertising because he/she is making yet more stuff that looks pretty awesome. Apparently, Rockout is now making a Robot Chicken-styled Legend of Zelda parody. It already has Derpy Hooves and Link so...

Yep! Yes, there they go...

- Survival Guide

I'm thinking of putting up a Tumblr for this as a repository for older entries. What do you think? Right, onwards!

I've been playing this game for a while and it just continues to be a simply fantastic game that I hope will become increasingly creative and challenging with each new addition to it. I think it's worthwhile learning, even if it does take a bit of effort to do so. But it's a minor concession for something I think it pretty enjoyable overall. So, I'll stick up for this!

Also, a quick guide to the Mane characters: Applejack needs some greater advantage other than just being Stubborn (Vitals Stand helps), Rarity is awesome for game control, Twilight is generally very situational, Luna is a powerhouse, Celestia has her uses, Rainbow Dash swoops in everywhere to scoop up bonus points, Fluttershy is the Goddess of Critter Power which means you will be mobbed in every bit of wildlife she can throw at you (be afraid of this), Maud Pie is slow but hits like a dump truck, Vinyl Scratch is a synch to flip (that being the point) and Pinkie Pie delights in screwing you over anyway possible.

Watch Clips and Shorts Here - Read Tyro's Review Here

I'll stick up for this too. If you ever get cornered and have someone say that cartoons nowadays are worthless or just plane crappy and your not winning them over with MLP, show them this. While it doesn't have quite the same charm as MLP: FiM, this comedy is hilarious. I mean, genuinely funny. Even some of the filler episodes in the first Season, got some good giggles out of me. This is worth checking out. It has a wonderful sense of adventure, mysteries all over the place (some hidden right in the show you can attempt to solve as well) and a good amount of self-awareness to it that doesn't ever get particularly annoying. Do yourself a favour and at least try it. I haven't met anyone that didn't enjoy this show yet.

Plus, Mable's Jumpers. Seriously, where does she get these things?

Morph
Watch the Whole Lot Here

Britain has had these little shorts for years. I think it made it overseas somewhere but they've been made for decades and then stopped. And then, Kickstarter happened. Instead of a dishcloth you can eat, helicopter headphones or sheds on legs, we managed to get brand new episodes of this Aardman classic. These are funny little animations that are just plain charming to a long time fan of Aardman like me. Also, they're just damn funny, creative and pretty cute. Plus! Plus! On top of the new episodes, they uploaded plenty more from years gone by. There's so much little clay men moments on this channel, it's just win-win! As an added bonus, they'll even show you how to build your own Morph along with how they make the show and interviews with the makers. It's a good channel, go see.

Though, be warned, it is British so there's a few things like Football/Soccer or certain impressions or references here that our international members might need a little googling for. Maybe.

Adventure Ponies
Play the Game Here

I know this was a fun little present from Hasbro a while back but I think it deserves a little more love. So, here! Check it out! A fun, Atari 2600 styled platformer that's just pretty fun. A little repetitive but enjoyable! Give it a go! (Although, because of Ubuntu, I can't play it. No idea why!)

Wait, there's a sequel?

Adventure Ponies 2: Wait, There's More!
Play the Game Here

Huh...Who knew?

So, if you think I'm missing stuff or can think of something that totally deserves to be up here more than these picks, let me know! Private Message or down below! I'd love to know a little more about Adventure Time. That worth getting up here? How about Mega Mare? Or Fighting Is Magic maybe? Maybe you think I'm being too harsh on Sonic Boom by not including it? Let me know! Because otherwise it's just me, the silly bugger that likes little modelling clay people that talk in high pitched gibberish, that's dictating what you ought to be watching or playing.

Is that a wise idea? I'm not sure it is. After all, I'd likely just put up Red Dwarf and Blackadder every week and leave it there. Maybe Open All Hours and Porridge too...The issue with that is that it only really applies to ponies in England. Wait...I remember reading something.

Well, if you use this...Hmm...OK, if you can find these shows using this method, then watch these:

However, do so at your own risk. I'll let Mike explain:

Besides, there are usually other methods of getting around these things anyway that don't require things like this so...Use your head. But, if you ever do find yourself in England...Maybe check out:

Red Dwarf

A fantastic show and probably the only Sci-Fi sitcom you could ever want! Totally watch it. Again, English references might require some Googling. Considering it's age, even English members might need it too occasionally.

Blackadder

Any of the four series and the one-off special are pretty good. The first series is iffy but the rest is solid gold. Rowan Atkinson, Rick Mayol, Tim McInnerny, Steven Fry, Hugh Lorrie. Yes Americans! Come see Dr House act like a moronic fop! See it.

OK, I couldn't find this last one using the method above but I felt it needed to be said.

Open All Ours and Porridge

Ronnie Barker is god.

OK, that should be enough for this week. Enjoy! I'm going to go buy enough booster packs of MLP: CCG to get high from the released new card fumes enough to actually see pegasi and unicorns.

Mmmm...Freshly dried ink!

I think it should be mentioned that using any VPN, proxy, anonymizer, what have you in conjunction with Netflix to gain a larger array of content might be within breach of their TOS. I'ts not illegal per-se, but take a fair warning and use it at your own risk with the potentiality for Netflix getting angry with you for doing this. The chances of that happening are probably not likely and most people who want to do this probably do not care whether they are breaking a rule or not but considering this is an official site announcement post I think it's only fair for me to point this out...that it is not a 100% endorsed thing.

"Content Protections" in my interpretation includes geographical locks as well. VPN's or proxies are obvious tools to circumvent such things.

Anyway, that is just my interpretation of their TOS. As usual TOS are always subject to different interpretation and are worded to be as dickish as possible, and yes I am crazy enough to read some of them. My interpretation tells me getting around geo-locked content with Netflix is a potential no-no. They don't specifically mention 'VPN' or 'proxy' etc but they don't have to to send you a warning so use your own discretion.

I've seen the MLP card game in my local game store, but I've never felt like spending money on it, like any other merchandise :p

Maybe I will someday though. Then I'll just need someone to play with me...

I hate geographical content locks. The BBC uses them to keep Americans from watching Doctor Who on the BBC website.

I remember Red Dwarf. When I first started watching it I thought it was going to be like a British Star Trek or something. It was only a few minutes in before I was like...

I liked Blackadder! Good show.

I'll have to check out this MLP:FiM card game. I've only heard good things so far. I think before I get into it I'm going to explore some possible decktypes and variants, just in order to see how flexible the deckbuilding would be. It would be interesting to break a deck... must... create... blog... post...

EDIT: fantastic reference in this title, by the way.
