So, can only female unicorns become allicorns or is there more to it? What decides whom becomes royal?
Well, in the shows the only Pony to be Alicornified is Twilight, and I'm pretty sure it's Celestia who transforms her. Not sure being royal automatically makes you an Alicorn though, Shining Armour is technically a prince and he's still a Unicorn. 'Course, the matter's a lot more clear cut in the FO:E universe...
Shining armor is prince by marriage. I am making an assumption that the "chosen" ponies get allicornified and they seem to be all female (all the allicorns I mean). Actually, I don't recall ever hearing about Celestia's or Luna's childhood.
Well in that case, I think there has only been one 'chosen' Alicorn as such, and I'm not really sure why they needed her, let alone any more. Luna and Celestia are both well over a thousand years old, and don't really seem to have aged in that time, so it's not really surprising we haven't seen their childhood, if they even had one. I think they're meant to be more like Goddesses than Monarchs, not sure they were chosen, think they've been around since the birth of Equestria. (or the three pony kingdoms or whatever)
Huh. I think it would be nice to see one guy allicorn. I was posting some artwork and it brought up the question. Do you think they will ever discuss the origin of Luna and Celestia? I personally doubt it since I think that may solidify some of the malleable magic lore and they might paint themselves into a corner writing-wise, but what do you guys think?
Celestia says at one point that the elements of harmony are the most powerful magic known to Ponies, and uses them to boost her own power and banish Nightmare Moon; this kind of implies that were around before the Princesses, so maybe that's where the got their power? They might go there at some point, there have been a few times when they show events from the Princesses past, like the first episodes of season four I think? Anyway, yeah it might be nice to have some more male characters in general, Cheese Sandwich and Shining Armour are the only two male ponies I can think of with major parts.
Has Flash Century shown up beyond the Equestrian Girls movies? I know a lot of people don't like him, but he seemed a little interesting to me. I'd like to see what his pony counterpart is like? I've only seen a few episodes and I want to watch more but wasn't Big Mackintosh have a major part in one of the Cutie Marks Crusaders episodes?
I haven't seen Equestria Girls and Flash Century doesn't ring any bells, so I'm gonna say no; he might appear as a background pony or something. And yeah, Big Mac has a few lines in 'Hearts and Hooves Day', but it's still not huge. Mostly male characters are non-pony villains, or at least portrayed negatively, now that I think about it: Discord, King Sombra, Tirek, Iron Will, Cranky Doodle Donkey and every Dragon except Spike. Oh, and there's Flim, Flam and Mr Cake, They're Stallions with lines I guess. Oh there's so much good stuff, you should watch more episodes!
I've seen the Rainbow Rocks. No flash in friendship is magic. All the guys seem like guest stars as opposed to regular characters. Big Mac is the closest and I hate that (I like his char) since he gets so few lines. It makes me think spike is the token boy for the show. I think they could really benefit from some more male characters that appear a few times and speak more than a line or two.
Eeyup. Guess it is a show primarily for girls though, and Spike IS more often than not the voice of reason. Plus, I guess Hasbro thought it'd be easier to sell Girl pony dolls than Boy pony dolls. They're probably right about that.
But they know they have a large brony fan-base. Plus, what happened to gender equality. If a girl wants to play with a boy pony, then let her and vise versa.
I agree with you about the equality thing, and I'm sure the shows writers do too, but ultimately the show was started by Hasbro in order to sell toys, regardless of what it's morphed into now, and for whatever reason the previous generations of ponies were female. With the Brony thing, they definitely know about it, and we've had nods to us over the seasons, :derpe: but we're still not the main audience, and if you count Pegasisters, were not all guys either. We might get more male characters in the future (and I hope we do), but there's also the fact that it doesn't take place in our universe or any version of it, (one of my favourite things about the show) and there are proportionally far fewer males than females in that universe, so it kind of makes sense that there are fewer important male characters too. Proportionally, like.
That is a thought. Since males are already so rare, a male allicorn would be like a holy grail in Equestria. When you think about the world they have built, it is very small in relation to other worlds. It certainly makes alot of room or other writers to make there place. I would like to see what a male allicorn would be "prince" of (assuming they don't just jump to kingsmanship).
Like Cadence being the Princess of the Crystal Empire you mean? Yeah, that could be interesting, introduce us to a new area, maybe somewhere with Griffins! The one potential problem I can see with a male Alicorn is him being a clumsily written love interest for Twilight, but hopefully the writes know better than that.
The Vinyls and the Miniatures are a mix of males and females, but the other toys are mostly female. I have a Cheese Sandwich miniature. Isn't Big Mac's thing is he's the strong silent type? So not having lines wouldn't bother me in his case.
The Funko Vinyls are pretty much made for Bronies, I was talking more about the Hasbro kids toys, but even Funko only has Dr Whooves, Big Mac and Discord as far as I know, is Cheese Sandwich in the Hasbro blind bags? The blind bags have a few stallions, sure, but not as many as there are mares, and most of them are background ponies. And yeah, It's not so much Big Mac's lack of lines that's an issue, it's more his lack of important roles if that makes sense? He could be a much more significant character without having to talk all the time, by, you know, doing stuff.
1. More alicorns=more alicorns ocs. 2. We have the mane six,so if there was another character then he/she would just take screen time away from them. 3. More characters=more ships that doesn't make sense 4. Male charachters would only be there so that people like you would stop *****ing about how the show needs more male charachters. 5. We have spike.
My previous post was made without me noticing the second page. ^^; Yeah Cheese Sandwich comes from the Hasbro Blind bags. Still he was easy enough to figure out which was him. I'm sorry but Spike isn't much. The show doesn't need to be drowning in male characters, but maybe a few more.
