I mean, personally I am a huge fan of the show, and I understand alot of other people are too,but of course, with every fandom, there's the haters, but what I just don't get is why bronies are given the hardest time for liking the show.

Just stupid internet stuff. people love to bicker. Like a someone once said, man can be quite the monster when he feels there can be no consequences to his actions.

I live in Texas. I'll give you a quote from someone commenting on my Doctor Whooves shirt.

"What the hell is that thing? British... Girly pony? You live in Texas son. You gotta live up to standards. Get a truck, stay straight, go to church, watch football, and drink beer. None of that girly stuff. Man up!"

I think we get hate because people think that people liking something not meant for their demographic, especially when it can be easily be compared to having a different sexuality.

In my experience, the #1 reason people dislike bronies is because the most visible / high-profile bronies act incredibly, unbelievably unlikeable. This causes a natural presumption that all bronies act like that.

Though I am or was a fan of the show myself, at times I feel like I can completely sympathize.

Well, there are more than one category: you have the intolerant individuals who cannot fathom the idea of grown men watching a show for little girls. Sadly these people exist, and for many reasons.

But one must be aware that category is not the only one. Others have come to dislike the Brony fandom for entirely different reasons. They have no problem with guys enjoying a show for little girls. Instead they take issue with the image that the Brony fandom has become too infamous for.

One thing I really see is the idea of Bronies claiming that they are breaking gender barriers, but then they turn around claim that they like MLP:FiM only because it is "more gender-neutral', sometimes to the extent of claiming "it's not for girls anymore", or even "it's manly". I've even seen topics on Brony forums asking "Do girls even like MLP anymore?". They also turn around and bash the previous generations of MLP because they are apparently "too girly".

So... This is how Bronies can come off as: "We're completely defying gender rules! But we're still manly men, so we still take being called girly and gay as an insult to our manhood. Trust us - MLP:FiM isn't like those previous generations of MLP that were so girly! Did you see that season 4 finale?! It was all DBZ-like and stuff, and having action means that it isn't girly, because girls can't like action! But we're still defying gender roles. Feel bad for us, and support us and our...attractions to cartoon ponies just like you would LGBT people."

And that isn't even half of it. But I'm speaking solely from my personal experiences here. The fandom really has come off that way to me. I know not all Bronies are like that, but if you're going to claim to defy gender roles you better stand up to them.

I bash previous generations (save for G1) due to their lack of quality entertainment.

I know that there are other reasons that people dislike the previous generations, but I've seen a lot of Bronies hate on them for being too girly. Or at least it's something mentioned... They sure love to throw that idea out there when defending themselves liking FiM. "Don't worry, FiM is not girly like those previous generations!"

In my experience people did not really bother me when learning that I watch cartoons which include mlp.

But then again I never show my interest of cartoons or shows outside home. The only ones who know are close friends and some family members.

Otherwise I just save it for home entertainment which includes surfing the net for it. But I understand why others want to show their love for their show though, but as for why some people don't

like bronies maybe is the same reason why others don't like other fanbases it's just their way to spend their time.

It's empowering to be or act "disgusted" or "revolted" by something. It makes you feel empowered, like you are superior, but it's ultimately shallow and worthless

We're not reading the script right. People who have given up on themselves to do exactly what society expects of them resent seeing people who didn't make that bargain. They're just shaming or bullying us into submitting like they have. It seems to me the best thing is to just continue to exist. Meet their anger with non-violence. It's no different than my entire school experience being made fun of for liking Star Trek. Nothing new to me. Hang in there. Being yourself requires courage.

Hasbro TV shows in the 80s and 90s sadly had one purpose. To sell toys. As much as people are loathe to admit, Transformers was just as guilty of this as well. The 2nd season and the comics were atrociously bad for it at points.

I think the main reason to dislike bronies for most people is fear. It's the same fear that leads to people being racist, homophobic, xenophobic and so on. Fear of the unknown, fear that there is something they cannot understand and that threatens them. It's different, it doesn't conform to their 'safe' norms and as such they lash out because all they've been taught to do all their lives is just that. Attack what threatens you, rather than trying to understand it.

I'm even more an oddity at times. I watch things like Gravity Falls, Adventure Time and the more recent TMNT run as well - people don't understand that. First, the former shows are very well done. They've slipped things in there that their intended demographic will completely miss and that's all part of their charm. The latter is simply because I can remember the original comics and the original Cartoon from when I was actually growing up, so seeing a more modern take that has successfully combined elements of both is a treat. (Seriously, their first fight with Shredder was practically an animated panel by panel of the original comic.)

Plus, you know, there are the very same sorts of fandom nods and more adult nods present in FiM that the average little girl would completely miss. Hasbro today are good at playing to their demographic. The fact that the show is incredibly well done in terms of animation, storyline and actual consistent continuity compared to most of the tripe that comes out for 'adults' helped rather a lot. (I'm looking at you Bitten.)

Also its sexism for men. Shaming men for not following the norms for men. we're supposed to like vehicles, explosions and sex. Not animals, relationships and feelings. The world needs men with feelings, men who care about relationships, men who are willing to nurture, not just kill. The world needs men to stand up for the importance of things besides money, power and war.

It's true, we sometimes have to defend our liking of this show by saying "but it's not just for girls, look! Fight scenes." That's because of the weight of our gender role pressing down on us. The truth is we shouldn't have to justify anything. Rather, those who dislike this should have to prove their accusation that liking a show about friendship is inappropriate for men.

I've never seen G1, but I'm open to the idea it might be good. When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to like it. And I didn't. But when I was a kid I liked The Super Mario Bros Super Show. That shows what taste I had back then. Transformers G1 only got good after the Movie with Season 3. But the more I look at it, the more I see that though It was a favorite as a child, it doesn't hold a candle to what I see now in FiM.

"Yeah, because bronies can't be bad people. It's oblivious that everyone that dislikes us are the same as homophones, racists and xenophobic" We are disliked because we can't stop talking about MLP:FIM. We are disliked because we accuse everyone who doesn't like us/MLP:FIM with supporting gender rolls. We are disliked because we refuse to accept that not everyone likes ponies. We are disliked because we send death threats to people who finds a character insulting. We are disliked because we must turn everything into a pony and then say that everyone that don't like it is a bad person. We are disliked because we took a some-what decent show and treated it like it was a master piece. We are disliked because we act like the show was made for us.
