In what will likely be remembered as one of the best episodes of the series, Rainbow Dash says goodbye (temporarily) to her beloved pet tortoise. This episode had it all... action, adventure, comedy... and crying. So much crying. If this episode didn't bring a tear to your eye, you're dead inside. Also... Grinch Dash, Rainbow Duck, and that Abbot and Costello reference... I give this episode 10/10.
DAMN IT, RIDLEY!!! HOW DARE YOU BE QUICKER THAN ME!!!!!!! First off, CANNOT believe I didn't see a Grinch reference coming... especially when the synopsis was pretty clear! Anyhoo, never expected as many feelz from a Dashie episode as there were today but it was so sweet to see just how attached to her pet she was. Seems a perfect fit for Dashie to take such extreme measures in a situation that really couldn't be helped. The song was top-notch too. Really good exposition for her motives even though she knew it was wrong. I'll admit, I DID get a little choked up at the end too. OK, now for the tidbits... -DAT "NOT ANGRY" FACE!!! ^3^ -Grinch face!! -Reference to Abbot & Costello's "Who's on First" routine -Generic Mission: Impossible theme!! -And did anyone else think of Willy Wonka when she was being sucked through the tubes? Overall: 9.9999999999.../10!!!!!!! (Rounded up to the nearest whole number!!)
I really enjoyed this episode. It had lot entertainment. At least RD got her own song this time. I would give it a solid 10/10. The ending was very touching to me though.
I also thought of Willy Wonka during the tube scene. I wonder if it was an intentional reference? Also, I totally forgot to mention Dash and Tank's slippers.
Someone on Derpibooru put this together. I did think of this episode of Frasier during the scene, but I highly doubt that it was an intentional reference.
Oh? Nobody's mentioned it yet? WINTER IS COMING Seriously, biggest reference in the episode I found. Ned Sparkle is my new favorite character. Also, while she was wandering about in the factory, I noticed something vaguely familiar... while we'll have to wait for it to be posted to make sure, I noticed that the background music sounded VERY similar to Rainbow Factory. One of the writers mentioned today that something happens in this episode that he took full responsibility for, and while I'm sure it was the Game of Thrones reference, that Rainbow Factory thing is up there if it's real. Dunno yet, gotta watch it again to confirm.
I figured they were either taking responsibility for the either the Grinch Dash or Abbot and Costello bit. I doubt that many kids would get either one.
Crap, I REALLY wanna see this episode. The RD solo, the title, the chunks of spoilers I've looked at. But I've gotta stay true to my routine and watch the first 4 episodes first. It's been so long that I've forgotten how to make time to watch the show. Ugh I'll figure it out.
I went back and re-listened to the scene. Indeed, the beginning sounds slightly like Rainbow Factory's beginning, but the rest isn't that close and it is likely mere coincidence. Turns out Winter is Coming was the original reference to be watched out for.
I'll be that guy. Rainbow Dash is a selfish jerk. Element of loyalty... TO HERSELF. She wanted to ruin winter for EVERYONE else. And she didn't care. Did she ever apologize? Also, the rest of the mane 6 are ridiculously nice to forgive her so easily. Or very naive to not notice what she was doing... I mean there's a line, okay. There's being sad because you are going to be away from your pet for awhile and then there is trying to change the natural order of the seasons and destroy a factory to get what you want - not to mention the ecological devastation had she succeeded. Just sayin' :derpe:
This episode was probably the most fun I had with an episode in a long time. Rainbow Dash went beyond lesson zero Twilight crazy in this episode, and I loved every second of it! This episode was just bursting with energy and non-stop enjoyment. After seeing how Rainbow treated Tank when she first met him, it's great to see her care so much about him, that she's willing to go to incredible extremes just to spend more time with him. This episode blew me away
Haven't you ever lost anyone that you cared about? Wouldn't you have torn apart heaven and earth to save them? Tank's hibernation in this episode was pretty much as close as the writers could come to discussing death without actually killing anypony off. Rainbow's reaction to the (symbolic) death of her best friend was perfectly understandable.
I feel like I don't get this episode. I've been away from my family and friends for months what with college and all, but I've been fine. Then again, fiction is supposed to be symbolically representative of our fears only exaggerated, but like I don't know. If she was really saying goodbye to tank it would make sense but it was just for the winter. I have no heart I guess
background ponies have gotten a lot of attention in this season. 4/5 episodes have them doing something.
I'm going to assume that first question is rhetorical. But yes. To the second. At the risk of harming/killing others - no. I empathize with others and understand how my actions can affect them both positively and negatively. So for Rainbow Dash I see one option of her being a sociopath, but by her own words in the factory of saying (to herself) she was sorry that others would have to deal with her actions this is ruled out since she understood what she was doing and that it would harm others. A sociopath doesn't get the consequences of her actions. That leaves another explanation that she did understand the consequences of her actions but didn't care. She knowingly took actions that would hurt others for her own personal gain and didn't care or have true remorse. That would make her a psychopath - she understood that the consequences of the actions she was taking would negatively affect others and didn't care. To her, what she wanted was more important than any damage she may inflict. Look at how quickly she was able to sell Fluttershy into slavery for a book. If that would have been (random background pony) instead of a close, personal friend, do you think she would be so quick to undo what she did? She did so because she finally realized that to her Fluttershy > book. But what if book > (random background pony) in her mind?
You have to remember that Rainbow Dash is not very bright. (Sorry, Dash fans, but it's true.) In her eyes, all she was doing was inconveniencing a few ponies. She's not really capable of understanding that the winter season is important and serves a purpose. All she really understood is that winter was taking Tank away from her, and that if she could stop winter, she wouldn't lose him. She didn't realize that stopping winter would cause actual harm.
And I found this to be a ENDEARING RD episode compared to previous ones. At least she showed actual vulnerability. Most of the time RD messes up and gives the whole 'friendship' speech only for the writers to rinse and repeat. I always thought her speeches were so forced and out of character considering she's so....Proud. This time though, I actually felt sorry for her. And in the end she did the right thing and read him a Daring Do tale to boot! Despite the dangerous destruction she caused I was pleasantly surprised with this RD episode. And I NEVER enjoy those. Don't get me started on her actions in 'trade ya' Separation anxiety aside, I really enjoyed this Rainbow Dash episode. I know she was selfish initially, but I can certainly imagine why being separated from your cherished pet can be heartbreaking. I don't know what I would do if I had to leave my beagle for a few months, but I know I would have reacted distraught like Dash. Without a doubt.
This one... was... quite interesting. I didn't expect to see this side of Rainbow Dash. I really didn't. It's made me like her more as a character. I didn't think she could cry like that. I kind of felt sorry for her. I felt sorry for Rainbow Dash. Yeah... I never thought I'd say that either. Also, I quite liked the song. Probably the first MLP:FiM song I've enjoyed in quite awhile now. All in all... yet another AMAZING episode.
