On the whole, I liked it. None of the scenes felt too out of place, except maybe for the Lyra and Bonbon bits, which is funny because they were a good couple of scenes that made me chuckle. I think some of the non-sequitur nature of the episode was what made it funny. I was glad to see the Lebowski gang and Steven Magnet make their reappearances. EDIT: Oh, and Gummy's inner monologue was fantastic. Best part of the episode.
Heh... Heh Heh Heh... Heh Heh Heh Heh Heh Heh.... I LOVE it when I'm right. BEST. EPISODE. EVER. Now go celebrate.
Wow. There is so much to say about this episode, and for the most part, I'm pretty happy with it. Sure, it wasn't perfect (at least for me) and some parts were too over-exaggerated for my taste, but at least it was every bit as epic as I hoped it would be. Derpy talked again and her voice is actually quite nice this time, so that was good. She's also friends with the Doctor, who may not be the Doctor, but I guess him being a science nut with a fascination for all things timey (and probably wimey) should make a lot of people happy and fanfic authors should have a blast writing about this ominous traumatic foalhood event. If there's one thing I didn't particularly care for, it's his voice. There's a sort of "harshness" (for lack of a better word) in it that just doesn't sound right in my ears. Amethyst Star's role was... surprisingly small. So she used to be the best organizer in Ponyville before Twilight came along? Well, if pre-Twilight Winter Wrap-Up is anything to go by, this title didn't really seem to mean much. I kinda hoped to see a bit more of her, but nope. Hmm... Now secret agent Bon Bon... I just... I can't... you know, sorry, but this was the one thing I really, really thought was stupid. It came out of nowhere, it went nowhere, and it didn't make any sense in between. Just what was this all about? Ugh. On the plus side though, both Bon Bon and Sweetie Drops are now canonical names (with the former name actually being the one she's known as in Ponyville) and she and Lyra are confirmed to be friends. Very, very close friends. Make of that what you will. And Lyra sits like a human again. Honestly, this mare must have some flexible hind legs, because otherwise, that pose just looked painful. Oh, and did you notice that Bon Bon's suitcase has the same emblem and opening mechanism like Daring Do's book-safe? So, is Daring a secret anti-monster agent, too? How much more are there and is every one of them tasked with fighting one specific monster (Bugbear for Bon Bon, Ahuizotl for Daring)? Argh! Must not think about secret agent Bon Bon! I honestly wasn't sold on Octavia's first few lines of dialogue, but I really liked all of the scenes with her and Vinyl. It's funny how she's every bit as crazy as her roommate and of course you can't go wrong with a mobile DJ booth. Also, epic shark-jumping! So, Vinyl is apparently mute. I mean, it's not only that she doesn't talk, but she doesn't make a sound at all. Well, at least with her mouth. Not the biggest surprise, I guess, but I don't know, it's just a little odd. "Sorry all of you fandom voice actors out there, but Vinyl doesn't talk. Ever. You are ALL WRONG!" Maybe it's just me, but Derpy locking out the Mane 6 rubbed me the wrong way. Sure, it was by accident and clearly meant to be humorous, but eh, I don't know. But hey, the town hall is bigger on the inside and has the ability to make sea monsters leaning in through an open window invisible from the outside. I'm sure that's a good thing... somehow. Speaking of sea monsters, yeah, Stephen Magnet is back, name and everything, and he sure took Rarity's act of generosity to heart. Good to see him back. Cranky sure made some interesting friends. More fodder for the fanfic writers. And last but not least, let's talk about Cranky and Matilda. Man, those guys are popular! Vinyl and Octavia really went all out for them, Shining Armor cried his eyes out even before the wedding properly started, there's an undisguised changeling chilling in the back (another one of Cranky's acquaintances, I presume) and all of the princesses (minus Twilight) are there (and I'm sure they don't usually attend every single wedding in Equestria). I'm not saying that Cranky and Matilda don't deserve it, but I'm just curious why they are worthy of such attention. So yeah. An enjoyable episode, to say the least. Fun and quirky, not without its faults, mind you, but still very enjoyable.
Oh yeah! Right before she ran over the scepter!! XD Also like how they had Berry Punch carrying a keg!!!
What can I say but.. I'd like to give a non-iron and whole hearted thank you to M.A. Larson. That and: What is life? Is it nothing more than the endless search for a cutie mark? And what is a cutie mark but a constant reminder that we're all only one bugbear attack away from oblivion? And what of the poor gator? Flank forever blank, destined to an existential swim down the river of life to... an unknowable destiny?
