Well, that must have changed after I got out of high school because, in my 4 years, NONE of my textbooks said anything about that. The one thing that was basically PREACHED in every article or video we ever saw was that slave owners were WHITE and slaves were BLACK. At least they seem to be getting a little closer to the truth. It was always that one missing piece to the puzzle that I didn't even hear about until I was older.
Well, they could have been more accurate, but they had the general idea right. If a black person owned slaves, that meant he also owned property. There was the rare white master who freed a slave, and of those slaves there was the rare slave who came into financial success after being freed, but it didn't usually happen. Still, history is full of interesting surprises.
