Anyone who's been on the site for a while has noticed the increasing frequency of depression threads on the site, they pop up more and more frequently as time goes on and it's starting to become a worrying trend - overall this diminishes the mood on the site overall and, like a wildfire, it begins to spread from member to member as more and more people decide to make threads like these.

We are all here to support you and have your back, but note that doesn't mean you need to make a thread specifically about these sorts of things in general discussion and what's more, as people see these threads get quite a bit of attention, they feel more motivated to make these threads on their own problems so as to seek the attention. If you are feeling down or depressed, please by all means talk it out with your friends, we are all willing to help you here, BUT don't make a thread about it. In the interest of up-keeping the general state of the user-base on the site, any depression thread which doesn't explicitly ask for help in a manner on how to improve the situation, (basically the difference between "I am sad today" and "This happened to me today, do you guys have any suggestions on what to do?") will be CLOSED immediately and without warning.

So what does this mean for the forum?
Well it means that the forum moderators have been instructed to close all depression threads that are just that, depression threads that serve no other purpose than to state that one is sad.

We encourage users to talk out their problems one on one with their close friends, be it IRL or online friends (via private message), but please, don't make a full thread about it. We want a healthy, happy community and these threads don't just bring you down, they bring everyone else around you down too.

I fear this may be a bit drastic measures, but at this point I feel this is the only course of action which can help.

~We all have our problems in life - one is not defined by their problems, but by how they overcome them~

I've got enough trust in this community to say I'm sure everyone will understand this is for the best, and that this is no way inhibits their ability to talk about their problems. In fact, by refining it to places such as personal messages and Skype, I think everyone will benefit from this. It saddens me to see people abusing the affection this communty has for it's members, but as I said, I'm sure people still understand that we are here to help, and if someone has a problem they'd like a solution to, they shouldn't have to hesitate to share. It's just counterproductive to vent on a forums promoting togetherness and positivity (and of course ponies).

It is inevitable that some people would willingly discuss their problems here, however, the recent spring of depression threads has really taken a slight toll on this place.
In particular, some things tend to get out of hand.
I agree with Grey. Take it to PM's to discuss your every-day problems, and take it to the people you trust.
While some may call it being comfortable with the environment here, no doubt some people are starting to get shocked/annoyed/Jarate'd at this.
In the case of depression that your friends can't help with, take it to the community patrol or Foxy.
They are there for a reason. Your friends may be here to support you, yes. But it is some people's jobs here to help you with your problems.
Or, at least, that's what I understood when I looked at the application thread.
    Let's keep it classy, see?

I've been seeing these types of threads since a month or so ago.

If your depressed, talk it out with a couple friends. You don't have to attract so much attention just from a thread about what has happened to you.

Some don't want to know what is happening to you. You shouldn't tell your problems and such just out in the open. Have a conversation with some of your close friends or ones that you talk to on a basis. They will help you out more than us. Just discuss is over PM's / VM's but mostly PM's just like the others have stated.

Yeah, it is a bit of a downer seeing all of those threads. Life can get tough....well, more like life is ALWAYS tough, so speaking with someone you trust helps a lot! If you don't have a friend to talk to here, that's what Foxy and ePONYmous are there for...and me. :p

Heh, I bet everyone here would be willing to help, just don't make a thread about it. Derpy is right, it does drag the forums down.

agreed, I think I brought this up couple weeks ago.
anyways, yes, unless it's some life threatening problem (literally) and/or people need suggestion there's always pm/msn/skype.
as in my sig says, even dough I'm not in community patrol, nor staff, I always offer help to anyone.

(btw: oh yeah, that last my topic wasn't depression topic. it was more prank topic (and little bit announcement topic) I tough that everypony needed good scare/laugh, as pinkie says, it's sometimes fun to me afraid. no, I'm not a genius, I'm a chicken *bok-bok*)

Yes, I agree. The depressing threads can take their toll on the community and bring down the morale. As others have already stated, there are plenty of individuals here to help you guys out. Not only staff, but many members on here have said they really like to help. So if you guys have any issues you'd like to discuss, by all means, contact any of us either via private message or via Instant Messaging services (i.e., Skype, MSN, etc.). We're here to help! :)

    This message emanates temporal energies:

    I haven't started a single Thread.
This is why I agree with this notion.
Spilling out your troubles, worries and concerns
should be done with a Psychiatrist, Parent, Friend, or Significant Other.
    Not the internet.

I'm glad this was finally taken cared of.

This site should be about lifting our spirits and bringing joy. Not worrying on other people's problems.
