So i've been a member of so many forums, yet so many closed their doors for good, So i'll try to put this in a way that won't sound offensive: You see people fighting over such stupid things, yet they can't put themselves in the other's shoes and view things from their POV(point of view). And this to me is why so many get banned from the forum they join, because they become abusive in their words and actions. I have been an aggressor only one time, but that was due to someone bringing my fics into the gaming journalism argument, which was completely irrelevant. I've had this happen and I have been banned but will not put names, as this had been a bad experience one or two times. So why can't we just see eye to eye? Why must we fight with one another? Is it really worth it? So for example, if i said the reason i never liked RD was because of her big ego, then the next person who loved her would show aggression, then the next, abuse. That is what happens in most cases. If the the goal was to prove your point, then do so from each other's perspectives, not through aggressive acts, that's the best way to handle it. I don't care if you like a certain character, its about trying to maintain friendships in life, not destroying everything you worked so hard for, only to make another leave the site over what you or he went through, as is whats happening now. I'm more in control of my emotions through therapy, and know what needs to be done for myself, and try to improve upon that weakness. So tell me, what would you rather do, break a friendship quarreling over a character? Or try and understand what and why they love that particular character?
That does happen from time to time, some members end up getting banned for their critical behavior and not respecting other people's opinions. Like, from your example you don't like RD, but I love her. I wouldn't get all aggressive and rude and start hating you. I would just respect your opinion and not worry about it and not start a lot of drama about what we like and dislike.
@RainbowDash9000 I was using RD as an example, never said i didn't like her character. Sorry for confusing you like that, but the only thing i didn't like was the form she takes as a Rainbow Power Pony, its as if they lazily slapped her together and just said, "eh this will do, the kids won't notice." Which they do, but just never know how to react, but whether they like it is up to the person own opinion.
This is probably going to be controversial, but I agree with you. That's always been my philosophy here as well, which is why I haven't left the forum over any debates that I've participated in. It is nice to have those arguments in the Serious Discussion forum, since they open up platforms for different people to reason their way through problems. However, I agree that in general it's best just to agree to disagree. If I like something, and you don't, it doesn't have to be a big deal. We can just like different things; we are, after all, two people. If we weren't different, it would defeat the purpose of communicating at all. As a side note, there have been one or two instances of rudeness in the past couple months that I just thought were totally uncalled for. In those situations, there isn't a whole lot we can do for those people. If they leave the forum, the site is actually healthier for it. But otherwise, I don't think people should leave randomly. I've been a part of this site for almost four years. I've seen a lot of people come and go, so I've gotten used to it, but I still prefer to think of things your way.
I don't think that's controversial, I think it's a totally rational reaction to this issue. I'm not sure how many of the members who have left or been banned did so as a result of disarrangements with friends though. Some people just don't get on with each other, and from my experience, clashes between two such people are what result in people getting banned, usually because one of them overreacts. I may be wrong; I haven't been here as long as Dilly, and I try and steer clear of any more heated debates anyway, but I don't think this site suffers too badly from these problems.
It is a logical reaction but also keep in mind that there are sometimes trolls who will get a rise out of people for entertainment's sake alone. Those kind of semantics can cause some serious issues if payed any mind. Though if it is a healthy discussion about a favorite character, it would be logical to not overreact but to just merely state your opinion. No one is right or wrong, but fighting gets no one anywhere. Though I personally hate debates though. They can start out friendly, but some people like to be jackasses and start flaming or trolling people. The biggest thing with me is the use of statistics. I know this'll sound weird, but hear me out. I hate the use of statistics in most cases when it comes to debates. Such things are typically used by a biased individual whom want to make their point greater than everyone elses, that's fine to a point. Though sometimes the statistics are overused to make their point stronger and it ends up be annoying. This is partly due to them following already pre-existing info instead of depending on their own knowledge and personal opinions or experiences. Anyway, getting back on topic. I'd not worry about those kinda things here too much @Candy Star. People are pretty nice, and chances are you'll be in more friendly convos about things than negative ones~ TRP is right about here being less of those kinda issues here. Everyone her is mostly level headed~
@Candy Star I wouldn't worry about it too much, people here are mostly nice. First impressions can be misleading. That's accurate; I suspect most people who leave do so because they lose interest in what the site has to offer, like any hobby or group, and most bans seem to happen when a person is spamming aggressively.
I had a horrible experience on another MLP: FiM forum. It's too long of a story, but, you may find a couple of posts I made about it if you look hard enough. Though most of what I posted has been removed. To summarize, though, basically, they refused to accept and respect my opinions and bashed me for them and always purposely pushed me around until they got a reaction from me. They refused to leave me alone and just accept who I was. They then acted like I was the real problem. How moronic. Seriously. Basically... they treated me like CM Punk. Which basically means they treated me like crap and then acted like I was the problem. Yeah... no. I've been better off ever since I left that piece of crap they call a 'forum.' But I'm better now. That's all that matters.
I know.People just don't respect others' opinions sometimes. It sounds so weird, I like blue and they like red.I mean, do we really have to start a fight to see which one is better? And yes, I intentionally said "a fight", not an agrument. What I'm saying is....Well.... Spoiler: Mild swearing People like that are purely, truely idiots, jackasses, and they should not live on this world(or at least the internet) for any god damn reasons. And I really mean it. Sorry for the short reply tho, my grammar is limited
You know, maybe this is just me, but I think it's a sort of disproportionate response to say that someone should be denied the right to live just because they're being argumentative or disagreeable. That makes it sounds like you're at least as bad as them, of not worse. Maybe that wasn't what you meant and I'm misunderstanding you.
I mean the people that won't respect other people opnions, the people that, well, put in simplity, the people that think that they are "gods", think that what they say is the fact and won't even bother to...Ummm...accept the difference between people. But however, I guess you're right.Making them to lose the right of being existed on this world seems a bit harsh, my apologies. But then again, they are no good for the world, either. Edit:Sorry for making you misunderstood my opinion.Told everyone my English is bad :I
In my 4 years here I've never seen it but then again I'm not super active like others. If I see disagreements like that I'd assume they're just messing with eachother. But if they're serious then I just leave. No point in arguing over something that's as subjective as opinions on characters. I mean, the whole show is about friendship :/
They did that to me a few times too, however, internet problems and visits to my house by my ISP changed my IP a few times. So I can still few the hateful forum. I try not to though. Trying to talk with them is like talking to a wall.
