... Since I noticed that there was nary a mention of the term Alicorn referring to either of the Princesses. So, yeah; just putting it out there that "Alicorn" seems to be the proper term for what Princesses Celestia and Luna are. "Unigasus" and Pegacorn" actually sound quite silly in my opinion (No offense, to those who used the terms). Since I figured this had to do with a pony race/species in general, I assumed it went into this category, it being about the world and plot of MLP.
I actually googled "Alicorn" and found that the word was used in the middle ages as a word for a unicorn's horn. This was just random trivia.
... Horned Pegasi (plural?) is how I call them, sometimes Unicorn Pegasi (plural?) or Pegasus Unicorns. I do agree all those sound stupid.
Well, clearly this whole topic leads to the conclusion that Mr. Thiessen and Mrs. Faust need to actually name what they are in the show itself, just to clear things up a little and avoid all the silly little confusion about what the hay you call a pony with wings and a horn. What I want to know now, is if there have ever been these sorts of Pon-er, I mean, Mythological Creatures on record. Anywhere, actually. Like, in ancient history books, books about Mythology... anything that has any clue as to what species they are. But, hmmm... this sounds like a job a certain purple bookworm might be able to tackle. Or maybe I'll just go ask The Doctor. Yeah, he knows this stuff.
When I first heard the term "Alicorn" I thought it was just a term made up for the show. Then I thought it meant that Celestia/Luna share attributes of a Unicorn/Pegasus/Earth pony all at once.
Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean we should call them that, but judging from the numerous (Mountains upon mountains of, actually) Fanfics that I've read, Alicorn is the most preferred definition when describing the two Princesses.
I call them alicorns because the tern is used in the xanth fantasy book series (piers anthony) and i liked those books
Well note they haven't needed a term to describe them yet, I mean they just need to say "the princess" or "the princesses" and you instantly know who and what they're talking about There hasn't been a term because there hasn't been a necessity.
yeah, you gotta figure that there are more gods other than the sun and moon gods. It would be cool to see a earth governing princess.
Alicorn is a good term for the princesses, but it seems unlikely it'll ever be important enough that they'll need to use it.
