This was a great episode . For some reason it really made me like Applejack, she is so nice in this episode.
I liked this one, though I felt that the setup with Sweetie somehow messing up absolutely everything and the twist ending were the best parts. Also, did anypony ever tell Rarity that she looks really good with a wet, dirty mane and tail?
Well it is Rarity - she looks good no matter what. I have to admit to tearing up a bit when Rarity found the bit of art work. I'll want to watch it again to get a better feel for it, but I think this is one of my favorite episodes so far. And for some reason, it made me want an Applejack episode more!
Agreed I like her with her mane down. Her and Sweeties parents are rather interesting. Im glad they put them in the episode. Wonder what her moms cutie is since her dads is footballs i think.
It's interesting that Rarity's mother seems to be the one wearing the pants in that relationship... Maybe Berry has a twin?
For reals, yo! Rarity makes anything look good! *snap* I guess the time they spent at the slumber party was good for both Applejack and Rarity. And I wonder if we are going to get to meet more parents of the mane 6 this season?
I havent seen this episode yet since my family cannot afford Digital cable.. (aka Thehub) so i need to wait for it go get online, could someone please give me a link.
You know when Sweetie Belle was all "Applejack is my new sister!"? I was almost expecting Rarity to get mad and blame Applejack for everything. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked Applejack's role in this episode, and interaction between Applejack and Rarity is something I like to see. ...Get your minds out of the gutter. The apple pie metaphor was oddly adorable.
I've noticed something with this episode. The Apple family has been getting quite a bit of screen time lately. With Applebloom and Big Mac both getting the most with an equal amount of episodes. Note: This is excluding Applejack, her being a main character, and all. Big Mac: - Return Of Harmony (part 2) - Lesson Zero - Luna Eclipsed - Sisterhhoves Social 4 Episodes Applebloom: - Return Of Harmony (part 1) - Lesson Zero - Luna Eclipsed - Sisterhooves Social 4 Episodes Granny Smith: - Return Of Harmony (part 1) - Luna Eclipsed - Sisterhooves Social 3 Episodes
Thanks frost! Just finished watching it, it was very interesting how everything rarity thought of as "bad" was actually really good stuff that helped rarity. One of the best episodes yet so far.
I can tell this one's going to stick with me as a favorite ^^ I've already watched it more times than I've counted--at least five--and I usually only watch each episode once. It's such a focused episode. Like everyone says, Twilight's not even in this episode--and Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Spike and Pinkie Pie are almost completely absent as well. Because of this, the characters it does discuss shine for the extra time in the lime-light. This is an episode that took the initiative in terms of character development: because of only a few scenes, I see Applejack's relationship with her sister as an exemplar of her character, even though she had hardly spoken to Apple Bloom before now. That's exactly the kind of depth I've been craving for Applejack, who had always (at least to me) seemed a bit on the one-dimensional side as ponies went. Meanwhile, this was the first episode to significantly challenge Rarity to grow beyond the constraints of her most basic motivations, i.e. stay clean and achieve aesthetic perfection. Watching that growth--and of course the hilarity that is her character anyway--really was a joy. More than that, though, sibling relationships was just a good topic. It created easy and believable conflict, which dug up all those old ideas of forgiveness and give-and-take within a context that (usually) didn't seem forced. On the contrary, each scene handled each stage of development in this conflict exceptionally well. Looking through the threads, I see I wasn't the only one who needed to swallow a few times at the big reveal of Sweetie Belle's art, and the switcheroo at the end managed to take in the viewer even while the show dropped hints. That's hard to do, and I appreciated the effect as a fitting climax to the story-arc. All and all, I just have to give a big hand to the crew =) This was a gem of an episode.
Wow tabby, very well observed and analyzed. Moreover, your ability to put your conclusions into words is very organized and eloquent. I am jelly, but I enjoyed reading your review. Personally, I could do with less Apple family screen time. Except Apple Bloom, she's just so funny and adorable. Definitely my favorite CMC character.
granny smith was funny in this one.
