I'm not sure how it works over there, but over here, the nationality of the car is determined by the nationality of the maker. Thus, a Toyota Tundra that is built in the US is still thought of as a Japanese truck.
Ford in particular has a strong following over here, but due to the models in question (Escorts, Sierras, Capris, Focuses and such,) mostly being developed mostly in Britain, they're really thought of as British, not American. Ford Europe and Ford North America seem to share little more than a name, and a handful of models.
