Before anyone overreacts, I'm not leaving this forum. Why would I leave an awesome place like this? Especially considering the fact that this forum was my saving grace after an issue that forced me to leave another MLP:FiM forum (which I've talked about too much already and have been asked to not talk about on here anymore). Now that this is out of the way, on to my question. I actually go to quite a few MLP:FiM forums. I like to be diverse I guess? Anyway, one of the forums I've been on is slowly starting to die if not dead already (in terms of forum activity I mean). It's a forum with a roleplaying area. I've heard of Canterlot.com for quite some time now and was just wondering what the general opinion on it is. I mean... I guess I should just probably find out myself, but, I was always under the assumption that Canterlot.com was really strict about character's and their information/backgrounds/history/etc. That's why I never joined it. But with this other forum practically dead I've been thinking about checking it out more and more. So... should I? Then again... I found this forum just through a simple Google search and there are a few others I've found doing the same thing. No reason to assume it won't be any different from this one possibly? Just wondering if anyone here has had experience or knows more about Canterlot.com than I do and can tell me if it's a good MLP:FiM forum and good MLP:FiM roleplaying forum as well and could settle my fears about it so I can make a final decision about joining it or not. It's up you all of you whether or not you respond to this and help me with this. I can always stop worrying so much and just find out myself. I'd still appreciate any help with this if anyone is willing to help that is. Thanks.
I was banned for using the word "hugbox", because the admin there is convinced it's a bigoted slur against autistics even though the context didn't even make sense with that interpretation. In the end, most pony forums have the same kind of community, so whether or not they're good is almost entirely a function of how insane, ideological, and/or power-mad the ones in charge are.
I left MLP forums years ago due to their virulent homophobia (the "moderators" over there were perfectly fine with a religious obscurantist using personal against me (and anti-gay stances in general), but they were more than happy to censor my posts for combating such filth. Interestingly, I didn't seem to be the only person who was fed up with that; the forum seemed to have a "brain drain" of sorts after people got disgusted with the moderators and owners openly siding with homophobes. I am not too familiar with Canterlot, but many online brony communities are trainwrecks (populated by wannabe bullies, sociopaths, attention *squee!*s, neo-fascists, racists, etc.). If anything, they are prime examples of the Online Disinhibition Effect in action (most of those people acting tough on the internet wouldn't last five minutes in a face-to-face altercation).
I've been on it for awhile now... It has it's ups and downs. The downs are the fact that I'm getting crap about my opinions AGAIN on there (which I thought I got away from after Equestrian Dreamers). But it's one of the few places that has a slightly large RP area. I'm not saying I'm forcing myself to stay but I'm trying my best to just deal with it and ignore it. I'll probably be using the report system more often on there now though as well as the "Ignore User" feature (which is how it started at Equestrian Dreamers before it spiraled to the point where NOTHING was done about it and I left that horrid forum for good) We'll see how it goes. But the post in question wasn't removed. However, I won't leave there unless it escalates like it did at Equestrian Dreamers. (Yeah. I just posted the forum where I left three times. I'm kind of in a foul mood due to my opinion being bashed AGAIN. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being mod-edited to remove the named forum)
Well, I think you can answer this thread yourself now. Lol. I'm probably biased, just because Canterlot is my online home. It does have a superiority large rp arena, mainly because it is an rp forum. The mods are nice if you get on their good side, but they can get pretty harsh. Character approval for Rp is very strict, which is both good...but also bad for people with very creative minds. In Canterlot, the main way to deal with non-beneficial members is via banning and warning points, but there are members that frankly ignore the warning points and continue as they due. It's a bit of a "you either get on their good side and you stay there, or you get on their bad side and face their fury every moment," Rp expectations can get pretty high, but otherwise, everyone is very friendly and nice. It's like a family-they can whip you back in line as quickly as needed, but they also love you when you need it.
Oh yeah I forgot. You got banned on Canterlot.com too. Heh... guess I missed one... Oh well... *whistles innocently*
On the other hand, I was basically a victim of cyber-bullying (got hate mail, threats, etc...) and the two aggressors got banned~ The behavior of the mods see to depend on the situation itself...
Hmm... It's slowly starting to become my new 'Equestrian Dreamers' BTW... that's not a good thing. It's quite the opposite. It's a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD THING. It was okay at first. But now... I'm not so sure...
