But I don't know if this is get another troll trying to get me to react or someone who is genuine concerned for me. I am concerned about how much worse these trolls could try and effect my life including hacking my youtube account or even my bank account. Any advice my fellow bronies?
You do not want to end up Encyclopedia Dramatica. I suggest you take it down. Close the account then Make a new account later. It will be for the better. You may be letting them win, but you can always start over.
Depends how dependant on your internet life you are. If it's everything to you, it's worth considering. If it's not, who cares? So a bunch of people are laughing at you. Yeah there's a lot of them, but what can they honestly do?
For YouTube: I recommend making all your videos on private. Also, on your YouTube channel, remove anything "Brony" related. They may attack the viewers that watch you, such as the ones that have ponies as their YouTube avatar. On your channel just remove the Subscriber/Subscribed/Friends/Comments Widgets (Or whatever they're called.) I would say to lay low, and probably just chill here. Maybe change your passwords on all your accounts. Get rid of any online information such as credit card info, SSN, etc... ____ Just stay low. Eventually it will die down, might take a couple weeks/months/year(?) or so. In the meantime, chill here on the forums more often! I hope you'll be OK Setzer.
Normally I'd say to ignore it, it's the internet. People make threats, say stupid crap, and none of it should be taken seriously. But...AE isn't really someplace where you want your name or info to end up, and there have been times when the collective retard hivemind of trolls from places like 4chan take their shenanigans way too far and hack into your stuff, put your info all over the net and harass you for the next couple months. Normally in life I'd tell you not to take **** from people with such a low level of intelligence and maturity with way too much free time and directionless hate. But with any bully, even if you manage to win the battle, it'll only bruise their ego and they'll only come back harder and harder. It may seem like you're letting them win, but if you de-escalate the situation before anything serious comes to pass, you win in the long run. I'd close your account, take the video down, close any other accounts with the same username, whatever you gotta do.
There are a lot of people that enjoy my PMVs and other content. If I make my videos inaccessible it will inconvenience at lot of my fans. Not to mention many of those videos are on Everypony radio. I've taken some of you suggestions. I have put comments on approval only on the videos they are attacking and I only put a video on private where I was drunk and probably said thing they can use against me. I'm not going to be a coward. My channel slogan is after all 'The Brony with 20% more balls'. What would be the big deal about encyclopaedia dramatica. Everyone knows that site has a reputation for being biased and full of lies. So my would anyone take it seriously except for 14 year old /b/tards in their parents basements?
I think we should just ignore the trolls until they get bored. Like I said comments are on approval only and I'll do the same thing if they start to attack any other videos. Just to be safe I probably won't approve comments that attempt to fight the trolls.
How to deal with trolls : If you get mad, they won. If you hide from them, they won. If you troll them back, you have to be REALLY good to win. The only winning move is to completely disregard the trolls. Show em you don't care, don't reply, and it's as good as hiding minus the part where you lose. After all, the point of the trolling is to make you leave the internet, and by closing the video, you give then what they want. Besides, if some of 4chan is on to you, you won't get rid of it as easily as closing an account.
@ DanSze- I completely agree with what you got to say there. My friends in school sometimes try to say things to get me mad, never works I just agree with what they say or ignore them. I would do the same thing with these type of people only thing is you need to be careful to what they say before making some sort of witty remark. Ignoring them is the best plan ultimately as they will recognize they are having no effect on you what so ever and will stop.
My question is, what if the trolls came that came from the video found this forum and caused chaos here in the forums?
Then many MANY permabans and lulz from me as they flail feebly at my great and powerful untrollability.
That'd require them to take the time to sign up to the forum That's 1 step too many for most trolls, it's much easier to troll someplace where you can do it anon (like 4chan) or where you can reach thousands of potential victims in one place (like youtube) so it's not worth it to most trolls to sign up to a forum like this just to get banned quickly. So that cuts out most of them, the rest could be easily dealt with
Why don't you just remove that particular video? If the trolls don't know you for anything else, then a lot of the heat should die down and you can lay low with your other videos for a while. Man, this is starting to sound like real life witness protection or something. This is sad. Maybe this is a sign, Setzer.
The point is that giving in would just give trolls reason to look for his other videos, since him giving in would just explain that he's a trollable target, and means that he is likely to be trolled again on other videos, since looking for targets it too hard.
I may be naive about this particularly stupid nonsense, but that sounds like an awful lot of pointless trouble to go through. I think it would be like they had their fun, the video is down, they can't share links of it, and they'll move on to another thing to waste their lives on.
Best way to deal with a troll in the first place is to not respond, or just don't care. -Then they get bored, and possibly just leave or continue to troll you until you get aggravated. Starting an argument obviously just makes it worse... Anyways for videos such as Setzer's Documentary, I would at least put comments to pending approval and ratings disabled / friends only(?) That's just my preference though...
This is a great idea, how come I haven't thought of this... Well the link will be broken once re-uploaded, for all the trolls and other sites. At least it won't spread that way. I would leave the video to unlisted and just show certain people / communities if you want. Public obviously just lets everyone who finds the video to be able to view it. Unlisted is like public, except you won't find it on the search and must have the URL to the video into order to view it. (or be the owner of the video that is unlisted.) Many different options to take Setzer, any of the above DH has said, or our options. If you let this drag you down, it may be too late in the future. Think for the future and not the present.
