Companies think we are Zombies for opposing the DMCA Policy article Hack the Planet Apparently article RIAA wants to destroy the internet with the Take Down, Stay Down amendment article Good news! Our voice in opposing the DMCA policy is working! Many companies have resorted to calling us zombies for believing they are doing harm. We have them in fear of what we can do and the fight isn't done yet. There are two openings in the United States Government offices to talk about Copyright. We can voice how badly the DMCA policy has damaged our communities further. There are forces that are still against us like the RIAA who think that copyright infringement needs to be quelled and out right stopped. There is a fear that this Take Down, Stay Down amendment will affect all who post videos and may even hurt transformative and fair use works. It is uncertain yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.
The movement has gotten serious traction. Over 100,000 comments about how the DMCA policy has affected us have been posted in the 30 hours it has affected and it's still increasing. The RIAA is the only thing still unmoved by this movement. The hit pieces are proof we are winning though. It's moved mountains but simply moving mountains will only get some attention. As long as we keep pressing this and pressuring the DMCA policy to be changed for the better or to be removed, we can still win this. The RIAA's Take Down, Stay Down amendment to the DMCA policy is the only really big obstacle and something we cannot allow get traction.
I'm very glad that Doug and co. have not only shed some much needed light on this issue, but are working towards fixing the broken system. I can imagine historians 40 years from now talking about this the same way we speak of civil rights today. Schools will be teaching about this. And as Mr. Walker already discussed, this is because Hollywood is afraid of losing their precious dollar to new technology, and always have been, whether it's television, home video or the internet. As many wise men and women have said, "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
No updates yet on the situation but I'll be sure to update you when information is provided. Keep it up with signing the petition and show the government that we are not happy with the DMCA Policy as it stands!
