Well first of all I don't care for the Wonderbolts in this show at all, its because their a military thing. It wouldn't bother me so much if it would've just been one episode being a subtle shout out to the military or just to support them by making one military'isk episode, but for every episode to be like this, it just puts me in *squee!*tiest mood. Ok sorry if that was a bit off topic but I still feel like the Wonderbolts are a part of Rainbow Dash's character. So to try to get into things deeper, one of the things that's bothering me about R D is a lot of her episodes are about the Wonderbolts. Now I used to think it would be great to R D become a Wonderbolt. The thing is can't there be episodes about R D other then being a Wonderbolt. Another thing that's just starting to piss me off about R D is that her character is about never giving up and you'll always succeed. Well... that's not how the real world works. So to see R D win at everything kinda puts me in a foul mood often. The more I see of all the it just makes me deviate from this character, and then I think who would my new 'Best pony' be. Then I think... hmm. What character is a bit more realistic and then I came up with Rarity because in a lot of episodes she at least goes through real difficult struggles to try to do the right thing (believe me this actually feels impossible most days). Then there's the many episodes she's getting back stabbed in (even thought she's the spy in TF2, ironic I know) and the more I think about its a lot more accurate to the way the world actually looks. I just don't wanna have to burn all my R D stuff, but I might have to.
Ok, so if I spent, say $4000 on merch, started to hate the character depicted, I should burn the $4000 in merch?
if you have $4000 to just throw away on toys would it even matter? sell it at least, don't just put it in storage. It's actually crazy to never get rid of anything.
Okay, what the hell? Why shouldn't the Wonderbolts be portrayed a military group? They're clearly based on flying teams like the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds, which are Navy/Marines and Air Force respectively. For that matter, why is "never give up" a negative message? Dash succeeds because she's spent her entire life working hard to be a flier worthy of the Wonderbolts. Why is her finally achieving her lifelong dream a bad thing?
I just think the Wonderbolts could have been something more original or creative in the show, but that's just mostly how I feel about. The reason "never give up" is a negative message is because no matter how hard you try even if you never give up you will end up failing somehow and your dreams no matter what they are will be crushed and there is nothing you can do about it. As its been put to me before... It is what it is. I want to be proud of her but I just don't know how to feel about it anymore. It's just hard for me.
The difference between a successful person and an unsuccessful one isn't that the successful one never failed, it's that they never stopped trying until they finally succeeded. Sure, there may be those lucky few who succeed in everything on their first try, just as there may be people out there who will never succeed no matter how hard they try, but I'm hard pressed to find a more positive message than "something good will come if you never give up". I mean, what's the alternative? That one should just accept failure as the only option? Yeah, sure, that's a great life-affirming message to put in a kids' show. Hand them a noose while you're at it, too, will you? And I could be wrong, but I think Rainbow Dash may be more interested in the Wonderbolts' athletic capabilities than their militaristic ones. She's an exceptional flyer and they are (allegedly) the most talented group of flyers in all of Equestria. Why would Rainbow Dash not be interested in joining them? Don't get me wrong. You are free to like or dislike any character you want for whatever reasons you want. They just strike me as odd, that's all. Also, are you really looking for realism in a show about magical, colorful, talking horses? Well, good luck with that.
I'm just trying to discuss this other people on the forums. I felt that members on everypony would be a bit more understanding or try to understand and I wasn't expecting anyone to over night either. You just don't many people care to try to help anymore. So, from the beginning of the show the Wonderbolts to me seemed like an athletic flying team. Kind of like performers, but was never fully explained and to be honest it still might not be fully explained what the Wonderbolts are. The reason why "never give up" hurts so much is because Rainbow Dash was one of my hero's. I at wont point felt like if I never give up and keep trying I would accomplish the one dream I ever had... and that was all lie's and fairy tails. I believe "something good will come if you never give up" is a much better message to spread in today's world. Especially for little kids as well.
