There's been a lot of speculation on how FiM might end, for years now. Hopefully, you guys aren't yet sick of the theories, so I can throw my own 2 cents in. Haha. Do you think DHX is capable of closing that chapter of MLP: FIM in a beautiful manner? Making it see as though it's not really ending, but that it's just closing for a new chapter/ generation of MLP to take place? That it won't necessarily be goodbye to our favorite ponies, but just a 'see you later'? While watching the final episode of "Free!: Eternal Summer" anime, there was a very beautiful, yet sad moment where Nagisa and Rei realized that their life goals would carry them along different paths than that of their friends, and stated crying- and if was their other friends, Makoto and Haru who reassured them that though life may separate them soon as they graduate and pursue their careers, they'll always be together, and always have their bonds of friendship connecting them on whatever path they take, and that "there won't be an end for us" (them), which I thought was extremely well done. Especially since looking at MLP, there are ponies like Rarity and Rainbow Dash, who have dreams they want to follow that they might not see fulfilled if they stay in Ponyville with their friends. Rainbow Dash with the Wonderbolts, and Rarity becoming a Canterlot elite, herself. Many times, both have sacrificed their dreams just to stick it out with their friends, but deep down, they still want to pursue those dreams, because they keep getting brought up and the ponies put in that situation where it's friends over their dreams, but I think that as Generation 4 wraps up, the ponies that want to go off and do their own thing would be able to do that, and put their career choice ahead of their friends, as Generation 4 ends, and it done tastefully, as Free! was able to touch on. I think the last episode would be like "Slice of Life", but in 2 part form. The Mane 7 would be together, seeing Rainbow Dash off to Cloudsdale, to join the Wonderbolts full time, Rarity would be catching the train to Canterlot, perhaps to meet up with her special somepony and make wedding plans (left up to interpretation by viewers), while Coco Pommel wotks with Sassy Saddles at Rarity's Canterlot boutique, Apple Jack leaving the farm to Apple Bloom, Big Mac, and reformed farmhands, Flim and Flam, to move to Appleoosa, so she can help care for the orchard, there; Fluttershy being content where she is, and Pinkie throwing a big goodbye party for her friends who are leaving, but they all promise to keep in touch. Twi says it's not goodbye, just see you later, and as her friends depart, Apple Jack plants a seed at the site of the former Golden Oaks library, stating, in a Mayor Mare like mention of the fandom, and future fans for new incarnations of the Mlp franchise (in Slice of Life), that the seed will grow and provide a new beginning, becoming a new tree, a new home, where new memories and friendships by other ponies will be made, in time.
Personally, I think that the final episode would be somewhat like the first one, no matter how unlikely that might be. With a new pony, possibly a student, arriving in Ponyville instead of Canterlot, to start their own life-long lesson about friendship under the future Mane 6. I don't know why, but I just like the idea.
I think the final episode (should they ever make one and not just drag out the series until it becomes a zombie) should be a cross between a clip show and a comfy slice of life episode. Have the mane 6 all go out for a picnic or something and they can talk and reminisces about all the adventures and fun they have had together. As the episode goes on include mentions that this will be the last time the girls get together like this while they all live in ponyville, as Dash is moving off to cloudsdale to be a full fledged wonderbolt, and Rarity is moving into her boutique full time. You can insert some kind of conflict over them not wanting to split apart, but at the same time knowing that they have to in order to move on with their lives and finally achieve their long term dreams. It ends at the trainstation, as the remane 4 say goodbye to Dash and Rarity as they head off. As the remaining 4 walk through ponyville have Twilight drop each one of them off at their house while also giving passing screen time to fan favorites such as Derpy or Vinyl, something as simple as Twilight talking to them as she passes on the street. As she finally drops the last pony at her family farm, Twilight circles back around and stops at the ruins of the golden oak library, as she lays down outside the broken and burned ruin of her former home she receives a friendship letter from Princess Celestia, that letter contains both the final message from the show, that friendship is magic, and a small golden acorn. The seed to grow the library again for the next generation of ponies, and have the series end with the closing of the story book that began the show during s1 episode 1 as it pulls back to reveal a far older Princess Twilight reading a story to her newest and brightest pupil.
... Take my yes! All of it! Take eeeeeeeeeet! Seriously though, that would make an amazing finale. Especially the story book ending.
I don't like the idea of endings I like your idea, it's a fitting coda to the story. Even if the Mane 6 story ends, there's so many other possibilities to be explored. New series, different ponies. Like a rotating door, when one story comes to an end, a new one starts. If DHX drops MLP I bet many people would be more than happy to pick it up. Netflix?
Here's my idea: A sort of crossover with G1, G3, EqG, and FiM, with the entire multiverse at stake. A villain so powerful that not even the combined might of all of the major characters throughout the franchise's history can stop him/her. The different incarnations don't trust each other, and even fight and bicker as all of Equestria turns against each other. The Windigos and Changelings come back, as do Sombra's ghost, Tirek, and past versions of Discord and Nightmare Moon, all out to use the chaos. Suddenly, Megan comes back and inspires the main characters of each incarnation to stop fighting and use the obligatory Deus ex Machina (and the Power of Friendship, of course) to free Equestria from the hate plague and destroy the evil once and for all. It then ends with a final heartwarming moment, and the book from the first episode closes, with the last page reading "The End," while the theme from Rescue at Midnight Castle plays over the credits, which then turns into the G3 theme, before finally segueing into the FiM theme. THAT'S how I think it should all end.
Hard to say. Sparky's a princess, Vern's got 2 other dress shops, the CMC's flanks are no longer blank, and my Dashie's a Wonderbolt.
I mean-it wouldn't exactly be good if MLP lastest forever. It might end up like some long-running shows-with little plot, too much repeated drama, and little to no connection to the original theme. I'd rather it end short and sheet than go long and sappy~
Whatever they do, I think it would be a fitting tribute to the series as a whole, a sort of coming-full-circle, if the last scene of the series featured a young unicorn sitting at a desk with a quill and a stack of paper, and starts writing a long letter with the words "Dear Princess Twilight Sparkle..."
Twilight tries to fool with Time Travel magic, she ends under a tree in Canterlot, reading a book about Nightmare Moon...
