McDonald will be shutting down 500 Restaurants According to the article, McDonalds is shutting down any restaurants that have shown poor conditions for both food and general health in the interest to improve sales for the future. They already started closing down 700 restaurants world wide last year and it continues this year. This move was mainly to cut losses from failing restaurants in the chain. Hopefully they will improve the ones they still have even more.
If the stores aren't profitable, it's just good business for McDonald's to cut their losses on 'em. They'll just rebuild 'em somewhere else, where they'll do better business. Shame about all those folks losing their jobs, though.
Didn't Starbucks said it was going to do the same thing a few years back or something? I've already had a few Macdonald's close down in my area-and most of my friends would prefer some other restaurant in fear of the food sanitation.
I mean-there were plenty of disgusting rumors circulating around their lack of food sanitation. How they cleaned the larger ice-cream machines by a person stepping inside (with shoes on)...though I'm not quite sure how there could be such a large ice cream machine~ Their use of chicken parts (guts, butts, stuff you wouldn't want to eat) in their food~ Etc.
It's not just McDonald's that uses the scraps for their meat. It's how pretty much any cheap chicken products are made. It all tastes the same, and it's all clean and perfectly edible.
I agree. But the more widespread rumours are usually around McDonald's over other restaurants that do the same. They also apparently underpay their workers. Not quite sure of that rumour, but they all definitely tarnish McD's reputation.
Well, working at McDonalds isn't really supposed to be a lucrative career, as it's meant for high schoolers and college students to work there.
I really don't get the huge hate for McDonald's. I mean, it's one of the most profitable fast food chains, so it's going to get investigated more. The food isn't particularly healthy, but if you're eating fast food, I'm guessing health isn't the first priority. As for underpaying their workers, which is a global issue that I am pretty sensitive about, the only thing I can say is that, like Proxy said, McDonald's isn't really a full-time job. Besides, most fast food places offer minimum wage, not just McDonald's. Plus, I love chicken nuggets more than just about anything.
Sometimes, they pay below minimum wage. But yeah, if you're going to fast food anyways, you're well aware of the lack of healthy food. All you want is food, fast.
A lot of the hate nowadays comes from either poor service or just horribly made food. Though some stay away because of the smear campaign movie called Super Size Me which put fear into the hearts of human beings. From what I understand, a lot of it is over exaggerated to scare people on purpose. Though some of it is true. Did you know McDonalds puts Ammonia in their meat products? Even in stuff like fries and chicken nuggets. You can literally smoke McDonald's fries!
You learn something new everyday. Also, ever since reading Fast Food Nation for an agriculture unit in Human Geography, I have an irrational fear of getting E. coli from hamburgers.
It's good to have some small fear of hamburgers being under cooked. As long as you check to see if it's cooked well or not, you can prevent yourself from getting sick. Most restaurants are compliant enough to cook hamburger patties properly, but double checking for them and bring it to their attention if it's not properly cooked, is always a safe way to approach it.
Ammonium hydroxide is used to remove bacteria from the low quality meat that McDonalds uses to make their meals. It's kinda gross, but it's also perfectly safe.
The McDonalds near me was closed and given a £1.4 million facelift, apparently. I spent a while chatting with a guy who worked there. Apparently, it makes tons of money despite being in the arse end of nowhere and being a tiny, tiny place. Except that it's slap bang in the middle of all the towns worth visiting so get's revenue from everyone travelling between them. Just figured I'd share.
I've never understood this, it's a successful business like any other, it has management and I'm sure area and regional management positions, all sorts of IT, marketing positions and other departments. Stay as the entry level casual at any workplace and of course it's not going to be lucrative.
