Love your OC I LOVE your OC design! it is coincidentally similar to my personal insertion OC. Wish I still had drawing skills, but I just did a recoloring of the wet mane look of Vinyl. But yeah, the pony creator is probably the last tool I would use for an OC. Recoloring art is a step up. Having vectoring skills like you is the best way to do it.
I see. Thanks for replying.I will try it as soon as possible. EDIT:Nope.I can't use it.I drew the base and that's it.I can't even delete stuff. A tutorial would be really helpful. Please PM me if you found any. Thanks.
I like pony creator images because they're cute, so it doesn't bother me when people use them. People who tend to be more critical about such things might be displeased with the lack of originality due to not drawing it yourself. I certainly do appreciate original artwork but, being one of those people who can't draw, I understand why not everyone feels inclined to do that.
You might be able to start on MS Paint. There are tons of bases on DeviantArt. ALL of my work is done that way and I think with practice, the results can be as good as any vectoring program. If you need any tips, I'd be glad to help.
I'm more of a sprite artist then a drawer, as I cannot draw(I tried to learn various forms of drawing, but everytime something looks off). That's why I've got a MLP sprite base that I'm currently tweaking for my OC. I don't see the problem of using a 'create an _____' image to give people a general idea of how a character looks while you work on your own.
I think people should just use the pony creator just to get an idea, like Tommyspud said, but not in full. Even if you cannot draw, just give it a try and practice, and you'll get good sometime. There's even blank pony templates on deviantART, just use them if you must. As for me, I'm not good at drawing either but I'm gonna attempt to draw my OC and may use the Pony Creator for ideas.
That's exactly what Pony Creator is for... reference. The problems arise when people try to use it to create original art.
I'm not a big fan of it either, but with no artistic talent, I have to use it to have a face to identify with my OC. At least until I somehow get something gifted to me (as I have no money for commissions) I'll have to go with my only option.
I agree with the argument that it is overused. Nothing seems original, and what I think is a major part of art is originality. Originality can be achieved through design ideas, or just by the style of art. I have no problem with the pony creator existing, but I personally would never touch it. I made that vow even before I learned how to half-decently sketch a pony. However it is a great tool that can be used to give an artist a reference so that they can draw the OC and make it set apart from the copy/paste style that you have to deal with in the creator. There are people out there willing to draw your OC for free. Typically they are friends with the person they are doing it for, but there are some mighty generous souls out there. I mean no disrespect to the pony creator. It must have taken quite some time to get something like that to work. As for shunning content just because of a pony creator image? Again, it's overdone and often lets a potential reader know that this is a story that probably wasnt taking itself seriously. Of course, that's what people want sometimes. A pony creator image could draw readers in to read something comedic or purposefully wretched. Though I won't shrug off a story from its picture. It's a book, not an art gallery. But it's not like I read much FiMFiction anyways. The title and description are what I mainly look at. That being said, this title drew me in rather well... http://www.fimfiction.net/story/172155/hitler-steals-scootaloos-scooter [PG-13] [Cussing] [Unsettling content] [Eww gross why would you do that] [What the crap did I just read] [dont ban me plz] Edit: Hey mods, if that link is bending the rules, please do just replace it with the story title. Also delete this little edit. Oh yeah, don't ban me plz. I don't fancy being sent to the moon.
Pony Creator may suffer from the fact that its options, though numerous, are limited and the ponies that come from it are somewhat generic, but if you are like me, and can't draw a straight line using two rulers, it is invaluable for creating a basic visual image of an OC and especially for playing around with colour schemes to find colours that don't hurt your retinas. Then you can give it to an artist as a model for any new works you want. Personally, I don't care what people think. I think Pony Creator is great and that's why I still use a Creator image as my avatar.
There is nothing inherently wrong with the Pony Creator, speaking as someone who is learning how to actually draw at the moment. I think Mad Munchkin said it best, people using it to make OCs that they've not even given a personality or a backstory or any sort of soul is what's wrong.
I agree. She also said it was a tool to help people figure out what their OC would look like, not just something where they make their official OCs.
Because people make OCs without any backstory or character information. It kind of bothers me, TBH. Oh, it's also overused.
